LTTP(?) Xenoblade Chronicles

Thanks, I'll take a look at the OT later. I always read the tutorials, though, and I'd known all of that except that agility is the best stat :) My only qualm with the game so far is that it's way too zoomed in for my tastes and the camera can be a bit difficult to maneuver during battles with a lot of enemies on screen. I really wish I could somehow zoom the camera out some more to get a wider view of what's going on.

Oh and I'm not reading any spoilers in this thread, as I don't want to ruin anything for myself.

You most certainly can zoom in and out. On classic pad it's one of the left bumpers and a I think. Probably in the manual.

haha iam glad you gave xenoblade a try, even better to see you enjoying the game so far, for me it only got better and better with every new location! game looks so good i wasted hours just looking around, traveling, waiting for the sunset and listening to the music! great experience and the more i think about it, xenoblade is my favorite wii game for sure and best jrpg in recent years! enjoy your trip

Once I finish my entire backlog this year, I'm rewarding myself with a replay of Xenoblade. As long as I get to do that before Pokemon X/Y comes out.

Seriously, one of the absolute best RPGs ever. Refreshing, rewarding and absolutely packed to the brim with content. The story is epic beyond belief, the characters unforgettable, the world huge and supremely well-realised, and actually rewards you massively for exploring it. I have a hard time remembering names of characters from modern games now, yet I still have the entire cast memorised like if I had played the game yesterday.

I could talk about Xenoblade all day. But not right now because I'm watching A Fistful Of Dollars for the first time. Maybe tomorrow!

I finished Xenoblade in a little more than 100 hours, so overall I obviously enjoyed it. But this game is not without its flaws. I came to despise the whole Nopon race because of ill conceived design of their village. I must have spent at least a total of 5 hours just running up and down the village trying to find some quest giver and cycling through in-game day/night cycle. Plus, the sounds that came out of Nopons wasn't pleasant to my ears either.

I was really enjoying the main story arc up until
the plot twist where the antagonist changes from one with ambiguous moral intentions to another stereotypical villain who is out to destroy the world
. Plot-wise the game became quite boring for me then. I had high expectations from this studio considering how rich and sophisticated the main story of XenoSaga trilogy was.
And Fiona should have stayed being a robot; never being able to have relations of a physically intimate nature with the protagonist. Another place where Xenosaga excelled by virtue of embracing numerous tragedy elements for its main characters (ending of II and III) while Xenoblade more or less ends with all the principal characters living happily after.

Lastly, I didn't enjoy the real time battle system. Too clunky for my tastes. I am not against real time battle systems when they are fun to use like DMC games but this mish mash of real time and traditional rpg'ish combat didn't work for me. FFXIII continues to remain the best evolution of RPG battle system for me this generation.

Imported: September 2011
started/finished: August 25th/October 12th
playtime: 247 hours
Party: lvl 99 (cheated a bit with the Bionis Leg cliff level up trick)
Mostly played as: Sharla then switched over to Melia for the majority of the game (preferred to play as 7th & Dunban)

One of the best and most time-consuming games I have played despite some flaws. I hope more people get to experience it.

Xenoblade Chronicles is one the best titles I played in a very long time.

The world, the characters, the music, the story... everything went together so well.

Only critique I can come up with are the amount of fetch-quests. Then again, they're optional. The story alone takes hours upon hours to complete and it took me well beyond 100 hours to finish it all.

Dat hat lol. Some of the armor is pretty decent looking, but some of it is pretty laughable. Not sure where they came up with these designs.

I played the game from April to December 2012 and spent 190+ hours doing everything Homonly possible to delay the inevitable ending.

Best part of the game for me was
the endgame where you're walking along something in space for some reason and you reach closer and closer to Earth. It was closing in on the last major plot twist and it was a sight to behold.

I even loved the ending,
although stupid Shulk with his stupid morals should've just harnessed the power of gods and created universes at their whims. You're never going to meet those other alien beings by waiting you twit!

Really liking the main characters VO so far. He does a good job, and when it comes time to shout at evil doers, he's spot on with the emotion. Oh, and Metal Face is pretty awesome. When he was
taunting them and mocking the death of Fiona, I was pretty gleeful.

I'm just up to the jungle now and having a blast, but I can see how people can get worn out on the game. There's literally so much to do that it can be stressful just trying to avoid areas and/or shinies on the map just to progress with the story :p

Yes, I bought the bikini. Couldn't resist. I noticed that there's jiggle physics in the game as well after equipping it.

Definitely the best JRPG of this gen, loved it from the start, all the way to the end.

The music, the story, the exploration, everything is so damn great.

I hope the next Monolith game will be just as good or better, because it'll be a hard task.

Not a flawless game (there are very few of those) but certainly the best RPG of the generation.

It's ridiculously ambitious but lives up to everything you could want out of an RPG. Story, characters, environments, soundtrack, etc.

Love how every party member plays differently and you can switch who you control to keep the game fresh or try another style of play.

Now that Nintendo has gone HD with the Wii U I hope they do what Sony did and go back through their Gamecube/Wii games and release HD versions of the games starting with this. I would gladly play through this game again.

Regarding being stabbed, also remember they do some kind of Robocop stuff with them, in that they're actually "dead" before being revived as Mechon. Fiora says as much later in the game, which is why no technology will get her back to being a living human being; she's not really "alive" in the strictest sense, again by her own admission. We don't know how much of Fiora is actually organic, even the "skin" bits we see could be synthetic.

Actually, there is technology that can get her back, but not during the game. Her return to human forme at the end was actually thanks to Linada figuring out how to do it. Apparently, all other Faces were returned to human forme too.

Tried it for the first time yesterday. After an epic introduction, I arrived in a village... and felt overwhelmed. I'm not sure I can dedicate enough time to handle selling stuff, knowing what to buy, etc.

Last JRPG I did was Tales of Symphonia because I could play it in the train. This one seems way better, yet I ended the night on Batman :-/

You don't actually have to participate in all systems of the game. I did no trading and don't think sold a single item. I headed straight for the main path and loved it.

It still took about 80 hours, though. So yes, it is a siginificant time investment, but you can skip the optional stuff at least.

Good to know, I'll skip the trading stuff then. Thanks!

I'm currently balls-deep in my fourth play through. It's still brilliant, and I can't wait to see what Monolithsoft come up with next (although I don't anticipate their next game being quite on the same scale as Xenoblade).

Xenoblade Chronicles is the best game of the PS3/Xbox360/Wii-Generation.

I have high expectations for Monoliths next RPG for Wii U.

Xenoblade looks absolutely fantastic on Dolphin at 1080p with the hi-res texture pack.

In fact it was this game that caused me to check out and install Dolphin in the first place. The game looks good on the Wii, but it was immediately obvious to me that it would look a lot better in HD resolution with hi-res assets.

Now that I have a Wii U im thinking picking this up. I went to Amazon to check prices and its 100 plus! Anyone know where I can get it at a decent price?

Gamestop. You have to keep checking their stock though because every time time it's available it sells out really quick.

As much as I love Xenoblade, I couldn't go that far. It's a brilliant RPG, possibly the best of the generation (J or otherwise), but there's so much that people find polarizing about it that I can hardly recommend it to anyone unless they have a very specific taste in games. MY game of the generation though.

What time is it?

You know damn well what time it is, has been and will continue to be.

Eh, I dunno. I think its only a minority that cant look past the flaws. Most people seem to love it.

Only time I'd be wary recommending it to someone is if they did have a very specific taste in games.

Probably would have been fine if you hadn't said anything. I never noticed it. The day/night cycle is too awesome to deprive yourself of, I think.

It caught me out; I happened to see it
shortly after the scene on Valak mountain where she first appears 'in person', as it were
, so from that I was able to deduce quite a bit of the upcoming sequence to various greater and lesser extents.

That sucks, but you're the first person I've heard to mention it.

And I actually pieced that together(or had a hunch) about that, too. Not really a big shock for me, I guess, once we saw
that the one mechon face was Mumkhar, which I had guessed as well
.

It was my assumption that, quite simply, in the end
Shulk did that. On account, you know, of being omnipotent for a while. He did, after all, more or less remake the world as well. Linada seemed to imply not being able to stabilize Fiora before she died, let alone return her humanity.

I was really enjoying the main story arc up until

You mean Zamza? He didn't want to destroy the world so much as reset it and absorb most of its biomass to continue his own life. By which I mean, his motivations were perfectly logic (if obviously evil and selfish), as opposed to "MWAHAHA I'LL DESTROY THE WORLD FOR THE SAKE OF IT!". I agree that Egil was more interesting as a character, but that's the deal; it would not be satisfying to have him as a final boss because he has good (if misguided) reasons for what he does. Offing a true villain is more satisfying as a finale.

Also, I actually loved the combat system. In fact, it might be my favorite combat system in an RPG of all times. I can understand how people might not like it (although comparing it to the likes of DMC isn't exactly fair either), but for me it was simply perfect. And I'm one that likes turn-based combat systems, too!

Obviously, the music was going to be generic and jRPG'ish so I wasn't expecting much there. Because I mean.... wait... what is this...

Even if this isn't serious, it seems kind of ridiculous. I've never encountered someone who had formulated an idea of "generic JRPG music." Even critics tend to list music as a high point for Japanese RPGs.

The one thig stoping me from buying is the control options. The CC and I don't get along when it comes to using the sticks, and camera control was a chore from what I've played on the setup's dpad. Is there GameCube compatibility?

Man I just couldn't get into this game because of how overwhelming the amount of side quests there are. Its a dumb argument but for me it ultimately completely turns me off to a game when there is soo much stuff to do that I can't really just focus on one thing I end up spending hours and hours powering through all the optional stuff so I can feel like I am not missing anything but in the powering through I lose all enjoyment. Xenoblade is probably the biggest offender of a game that needed serious editing for me.

i am about 75 or 80 hours in and died to a boss
lorithia
the last time i played. i need to get back into it, but have been distracted with other stuff. i am open to suggestions on how to win that fight (i have heard break-topple-daze but havent tried the battle again yet.

i like the game a lot. it is beautiful, story is good enough, i like the battle system, the sense of exploration is top notch. i can understand people complaining that it can feel grindy at times with all the side quests, but you beat so many of them just going through the game that it is never a real problem for me.

any guesses on how far i am from the end?

I assumed more or less the same myself, but the official guide (which has facts straight from Takahashi himself) states as I said, that
"while it's wasn't shown, in the world after the ending a technology to regenerate lost body parts is developed by Linada. Through this all Faces regain their original bodies."

While Shulks actions aren't mentioned, they could have played a part though. If the Faces were essentially "destined" to die as human/machine hybrids, then Shulk changing the world to let people decide their own futures may have opened the door needed for Linada to develop the technology to save them. Maybe.

Well over 100 hours in, still on Mechonis Field and I've had the game since its original EU release (imported it). I really need to finish it eventually. Suprisingly I still remember what is going on in the story.

You're just a few hours away from beating the game. Make sure you have characters with good Ether arts in your party like Riki or Melia.

Bought? The? I got swimming gear from sidequests before she joined the party and that's all she wore for the most of the game! ...for some reason it tended to be more powerful than most other armor until about half way.

Heh, I just bought the 2nd set last night... didn't realize at first that there was more than one. I haven't seen any drop, though.

I just past Prison Island. Plot twists, ahoy.

Also, I think this area is my new favorite. Just so many gorgeous places.

Is it doubtful that there will be a HD remake of this? I want this game, but I wonder if I should wait to see if they will make a HD version for WiiU? Unlikely?

Interesting, thanks a lot! Is there any place where more information of this kind is collected? I doubt the guide reached Spain and in any case I have little interest in it save for this stuff...

Not gonna happen I'm afraid.

Plus I'd rather they spend time making their new game than waste resources porting it to the U

Hopefully the Wii-U game is farther along than we think since Xeno came out in Japan in June 2010

There's always Dolphin if you need it HD. But you should buy it

It sure could use it but I don't see that happening, given how Nintendo had to be dragged kicking and screaming just to release the game here.

I'm pretty sure you get some from sidequests in Colony 9. Armor and weapon appearances depend on type. There are only so many types, and the specific name only determines the color. So you might have swimming oil be a pink bikini and diving oil be a black bikini.
