Just wondering...I wasn't really aware of all this registering or what not to be able to get the demo today...is my XBox Live Gold membership not enough anymore...? wtf is this shit?....

As far as I understand it, you can modify your weapons to have several attachments. Probably 2 different attachments per weapon. So you should still have 4 guns on you.

okay, this sounds like a good replacement. come on demo code, I want to play it for myself.

My guess is that you upgrade it later in the game since up/down on the d-pad aren't used for anything. (unless you use them with your co-op partner, in which case, this could really suck)

it sounds like the weapons crafting has replaced two weapon slots. might be a good replacement, need to play it for myself before knowing for sure though.

Tried signing up and never got a code.

No wonder, I forgot what my origin account was and did lost password. You can make up an account and it says they are sending you the details. Fraud prevention or pain in the butt?

I'd love a code if anyone has one available! Had no idea there was a limited-registration website for access, completely missed out.

Reread the original post. The offer expired at midnight. As much as I wanted to check it out, I think it's better than I missed my chance, and I'll probably not bother with it next week either. The first two Dead Space games were some of my favorite games of this gen, so DS3 is a no-brainer.

And then they RE5 it...

I'd love an extra code, but its honestly to try out the coop with a friend, I got a code myself, so I will easily wait til next week so he can get it on the marketplace, really only asking if there ends up being an abundance.

@amazongames on twitter is giving out download codes for 360 all day.

there have been a whole lot so far, so maybe its going to keep going if anyone is interested.

edit: they just posted a list of 25.

The negative impressions really make me sad. Damn shame. Visceral had something good with both the first two. Let's hope they don't wreck it with 3.

Downloaded, played, and deleted. There was literally nothing interesting or exciting that happened. It's such a shame because Dead Space 1 and 2 were so intense and atmospheric and lonely. This just felt like a generic looking and playing third person shooter. Still going to give it a tiny chance, it could be just this demo stuff that's bad. Right? Right?!

i dont get it. the demo feels and plays nothing like gears, at all.

Interesting how Dead Space is in some ways a mirror of Resident Evil's evolution on a fast track. DS1 had a maze-like and ominous environment that you slowly have to unlock (RE0-CV), then DS2 changed to a relatively linear action game(RE4), and now DS3 has the same formula with added co-op and enemies with guns(RE5/6).

Calling the newest game Gears of War is also apparently happening.

Dead Space 1 demo was awful and 2 was so-so compared to the actual games. This is just more ammo for the people who are already hating on DS3 and won't give the game an actual try.

Not blaming them though, DS1 demo was THAT bad.

EDIT: Watched some of the streaming, lateral rolling/evade? Oh boy. It's gonna be useful in combat but I'm guessing that now it's a patented broshooter move.

i dont get how/why they fucked up the controls. i am not happy with the focus on even more action, but with the controls from ds 2 it could still be fun. the biggest problem with the ds3 demo (for me) is that fighting enemies is just not fun, at all.

Sounds like going from UC2 to UC3 where UC3's controls suddenly were fucked up compared to UC2. (Well, mainly the aiming, which is what I'm assuming you're talking about here). Which is hilarious, because in both scenarios it's going from the second game to the third game and the second game for both series were highly praised if not the hallmark of both.

I think a lot of us expected this to happen though given E3's trailer. I'm not surprised... though the controls taking a dip sounds even worse than just the game itself taking a different direction.

But DS1 Demo only introduced dismemberment. The action was intended for this part.

Dead Space Demos are bad, I wouldnt worry, also theres a ton of people just waiting to shit on the game, no matter if it is good or bad.

And I love how any game that has a scripted sequence is Uncharted... c'mon.......

Heh, I just realized that we probably once again will have to go through the whole process of the devs making absolutely sure that we know that we're supposed to shoot the limbs off the necromorphs. It was pretty ridiculous in 2 so this time I'm expecting no fewer than 5 audio logs, 7 walls with it written in blood, a monologue from Isaac and two reminders from NPCs. Maybe the enemy soldiers can yell it out from time to time so you don't forget.

Replace "shoot the limbs" with "go into cover" ;)

Have you seen the sequence yet? If not, it's definitely very reminiscent of UC2's Train Wreck... Isaac even walks similarly.

If it was a completely different scene, like no snow, no vehicle wreckage, then you probably wouldn't see the comparison being made at all. But the fact is, it's a very similar sequence of events to UC2 and I do not blame people comparing it and thus trashing on DS3 because of it.

I think my biggest concern with Dead Space 3 besides the general concerns about the tone of the game and lacking atmosphere is the cover based shooting and presence of human enemies shooting back. Sure, it makes sense probably from a story POV but that sort of thing just seems like it could really screw up the feel of the game, especially if its not handled very well.

How does the demo start? Is it just like the opening of the game pretty much? Or is it the kind of demo thats been pieced together from a bunch of different parts of the game?

From an in-universe perspective it's honestly kinda baffling that Isaac has never had to directly deal with human enemies. Well, not in regular gameplay at least. There was that one bit in Extraction but I don't think it even counts.

I do agree with you here, I still don't think the game needs gunfights but it certainly does make sense plotwise so I can see why they'd include it. If you think about it the real threat isn't the necromorphs, it's humans who are under the Marker's influence either directly or indirectly (trying to abuse its power etc).

I'll of course reserve my judgement after I play the game, for all we know you only have to deal with them a few times.

It feels a damn lot like ds2 as i finished that just before xmas, looks damn damn good and im really digging the weapon building. Im really not getting the hate for this at all signs are pretty good imho. Or is this the new thing to hate?.

This is the same demo that was initially shown off when the game was revealed, so why are we acting like it's a big surprise? Many of the videos and additional demos have shown that the game is not like this as a whole product.

As for the controls, the best comparison would be Uncharted 2 -> Uncharted 3.

Overall I feel it will still be a good game, but not have the balance or fluidity that DS2 had.

the demo then.

the single player portion was surprisingly decent, the aiming feels off though. not sure if they've slowed it down or tweaked it or what, but it feels very different to that in previous games. I don't want to say laggy, but it feels off.

apart from that, there's a lot more action. a lot more. this might be a positive for some, but I didn't like the more action oriented direction of dead space 2 and this seems to have turned it up to 10.

enemies are fast moving and seem to mutate more, which is a nice touch, but due to the controls feeling off, the combat becomes frustrating when you come across the more faster moving enemies,

human enemies are something this series didn't need. weapon wielding necros would have been better, holding weapons that go off due to reflex rather than majini or infected type enemies like those in resident 4 and 5.

location is great, love the snow storm and got some serious The Thing vibes throughout. the set piece was interesting, but again, due to the controls become frustrating. weapon crafting is intriguing and seems to have potential, but I need to play it with some more to form a more solid opinion.

overall, the demo was surprising decent. I don't like the action direction of the demo and the aiming / combat controls need to be fixed as soon as possible, but apart from that, I liked it.

waiting for a buddy to get home and download the demo before we co-op, so more impressions tomorrow.

EA, cover mechanics, QTEs, mixed genre shifting to the more common end...it's the recipe of GAF-hate.

Is this for PS3 too? If so can I have one please?

Xbox owners were given early access through registering on the website with their Origin ID. The demo will be available within a week or two for those who missed the registration promotion or who use PSN. PC owners are out of luck unfortunately as the demo hasn't been announced for that platform.

I remember really disliking the Dead Space 2 demo but loving the game. Maybe it will be the same case here

.... :(

Watched a YT video, man that looks great, can't wait.
And the coop is story coop I hope?
Yep. Apparently it will be the same story as the normal SP but with some variations because of the extra character
