Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

You know what's funny about this situation is that it's entirely possible that the joke may be on any one of us laughing at the guy who doesn't know drinky's tag situation. I don't know when or for how long, but I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned by a mod before that drinky has been banned more than once for reals. But there's no way for us to tell.

So, I always keep that in mind before I laugh at someone who thinks drinky's banned because of his tag. If there's one thing that's super duper important to me, it's not ending up with egg on my face.

Wasn't laughing at the poster though but more at the joke still being used to catch people.

And yea if he is banned for real then the joke goes nowhere.

Rayman Legends would have likely sold poorly if it came out this month or in the Fall. The only difference is there's steeper competition in the Fall, and Wii U having a bigger install base isn't going to be of that much help when Nintendo's got plans to releasing several games by that as we all know, Nintendo fans will by their very nature, will be more in interested in. Ubisoft may be attempting to compensate for Wii U's weaker install base, but they've clearly hurt their image by screwing Wii U early adopters.

So you're saying Rayman: Legends is doomed no matter what they do?

The decision makes sense from Ubisoft's perspective. Marketing a release twice or marketing a release once? Obviously the latter is preferable. Moreover, the experiences with third-party sales on the WiiU might have deterred Ubisoft.

However, the higher-ups should have been more transparent about this decision in order to avoid the disappointment of WiiU consumers/fans.
Nintendo practicaly helped them in leveraging some marketing with demos scattered in multiple shops and a publishing deal.

Wind Waker HD does not deserve a November December release

Fall would be October, but Nintendo could be a bitter bitch and drop a big 1st Party IP on the same day as Rayman

It could be that Nintendo has already struck a deal with Ubisoft for something other game because of this. Or they could be really pissed right now.

We have not seen Reggie in weeks, I wonder if he got canned and we have not been told.

LOL, no.

Didn't Ubisoft release several Wii U trailers for this?
This is a slap in the face for everyone who got excited by their marketing, especially for the early Wii U adopters for whom this game was one of the reasons for buying one in the first place.

Also wow @ the Ubisoft employee in this thread. I would think that Ubisoft has a policy to prevent it's employees from making such statements.

Why sell a game on a game-starved system where there's no competition coming out when you can release it near GTAV's launch? Not only that, it's near the Christmas season where you can buy games like that at bargain basement prices, cutting down the value of the game as well. Why buy Rayman Legends at $50/$60 when I can get it two months later in November for half the price?

Man, you are really upset huh?

Also, based on the 3rd party game sales on the Wii U, people would have more than likely been able to purchase Rayman Legends at half price two months later if it did remain a Wii U exclusive. Heck, maybe even sooner.

I don't know about February but September is sending it out to die so he might be right.

One thing that's important to keep in mind is that Rayman isn't developed with a AAA budget. So when the sales inevitably appear low, it's quite possible that targets are being hit. Many note how poorly Origins sold, but it's my understanding that the game made a profit. It did well enough to greenlight Legends.

Yep. This is true.

and on the spot!

Wow. This is good for me, since I really wanted to play Legends but I don't fancy picking up a Wii U right now. I have to admit though, it is a shame to see a new system losing exclusives. I kind of secretly hope Bayonetta 2 is next, but at the same time it would be a shame for the Wii U to keep losing exclusive titles.

Going into this gen everyone knew the Wii U was going to be treated like a stepchild for 3rd parties both in comparison to the 360/PS3 and 720/PS4. So why is everyone acting surprised that its being treated like a stepchild?

I don't care about the other platforms, but seriously...SEPTEMBER! I'll get it on the PC eventually anyway, but the other versions shitting up my playing schedules sort of pisses me off.

I think people are overreacting a little... the Wii U version will still be the definitive one.

It will be the best version almost guaranteed but people want something to play now.

That is the problem. I bet many that would have bought it during a drought won't buy it in September when plenty of other bigger games should be getting released

You know, the saddest part of this thread is seeing how lowly some people think of the "new" Rayman franchise before/after the announcement; Origins was easily one of my favorite games from 2011, if not my favorite (I think the only game preventing it from definitely being my GotY is Deus Ex: HR), easily one of the best platformers I've ever played, and I'm talking Yoshi Island good. It really is a game I see aging well in the long run, and becoming a classic down the road (it already is for me and my girlfriend and the friends I also played it with).

It's a shame that the game's reputation is going to be tarnished by a few bad decisions from the higher ups, when you can easily notice from Origins and the demo/videos shown so far how much fun the developers have had working on the franchise. If anything, I wish this announcement had been handled better by Ubisoft if only to protect the franchise, specially since I love platformers and would like to see developers making the same treatment to several of their forgotten characters (Crash, Klonoa, etc... so much potential only Nintendo seems to be exploiting...)

I don't know about everybody else but it's the damn delay that really pissed me off. I had this game preordered for over 6 months and knowing that this game is finished and yet not released sucks really bad.

I may end up not buying the game now because of this. They announced the title as an exclusive and hype it up, only to delay the game again just so they can port it. If they delayed it for other reasons, fair enough, but otherwise I just lost a ton of respect for Ubisoft. Not that there was much to begin with

Pretty much.I never expected Rayman to be a strong seller on Wii U. I doubt it would have sold 200k copies in its first month. Of the two, I would have still gone with a February release because there's less competition. Rayman will get trampled on by the quantity of higher profile third-party games and Nintendo titles in the Fall.

I'd say a delay like this is pretty unprecedented.

Though I say that and someone will go "No, don't you remember Darkened Sky?!" or something.

That's great news! If Sony could help them to bring the games touch functionality to Vita I would be happiest but I'll take another great 2D platformer any day.

Rayman Legends was one of the first fully revealed Wii U games, and had exclusive presence at Nintendo's demo stations for months. Now it's a multiplatform game not even releasing until the second wave of Wii U games starts.

There was probably some impotent fist shaking at NoA in the last week.

Its not coming to the Vita

Maybe they could port it. They should just delay it another couple of months and add in Vita, 3DS, and PC. But by then ps4 and durango would be out. Might as well delay it again. How about Holiday 2014?

Edit: forgot about ipad. Early 2015.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I have to admit, I do find it amusing that Ubisoft announced both a hardcore, mature Zombie survival horror and a cute colourful platformer for Wii U, and it's the latter that will go multiplat.

Yeah, but too bad they can't do anything about it. Ubisoft's controversial decision shows how little it cares in attempt to negotiate.
