Ueda posts about TLG

I don't know, but I know it's been in development on Orbis for a long time now. It's platform has been questionable for nearly two years, but the last time it was restarted (it's been restarted a number of times), it was moved to Orbis.

Just for those who missed it. Kenny was formally of Sony internal studio BigBig (UK)

This is very exciting.
I'm surprised he isn't handcuffed by a NDA, even if he is a former employee.

If it's a launch title (keep in mind, it could still be a "Here it is! For PS4! Look forward to it Summer 2015!!" situation :p) that would be pretty huge. Not necessarily for game sales, but as Haunted pointed out, Ueda games are critical darlings. It would be a massive talking point and big incentive for current PS3 owners to strongly consider taking the PS4 jump when it releases.

This kind of game, along with, say, a ball-droppingly gorgeous Killzone 4 to appease the FPS/multiplayer gamers, with various 3rd party offerings, could make for a big-time PS4 launch.

Kenny's a top poster, his 'leaks' have only ever been very conservative, and right around the time or real announcements, like Puppeteer. NDA or not, I think the post is wholly benign.

Given the technical problems they were said to be having with the PS3 combined with the long period of silence... a PS4 release seems the likely candidate for now.

Regarding those salaries people are posting, remember that the average is skewed on the high side because it includes the massive paychecks of the executives. The median would be a much more informative figure.

For reference, my Japanese company is listed in magazines as having an average age of about 33 and an average salary of Y6.3 million, yet no person at age 33 or younger actually gets a salary that high. The median is closer to 4 or 5 million.

Would be a great story if the PS4 ended up saving this game and provided it with the opportunity to fulfill what they wanted it to be. I think it is very unlikely, but it would totally make the wait worth it. Long and troubled development cycles usually never end well, though.

DAY ONE YOU HEAR ME KAZ DAY ONE ZERO HOUR If this is a PS4 launch title. Believe.

edit: also, I honestly hope that Ueda keeps working in this industry.

Fantastic news. I imagine that they'd be pretty wary of showing the game if it was still a ways off from release or still in rough shape. Hype!

If they show it, they will announce a specific timeframe if not an actual solid date, there'd be no possible they could get away with a vague coming soon or 2014.

They can't restart the hype and wait cycle again. There has to be a firm release schedule in mind if Playstation Meeting is set to be its grand reintroduction to the world, they can't afford e3 2009 again.

If this was truly moved to PS4 then that would have to be the biggest fail in the history of the games industry after DNF. They couldn't even get 1 game outputted on a single piece of hardware and still get funding while superior developers like Zipper, Lightbox, Superbot, all put out multiple titles and get scrapped.... (sigh)

The feel of 480fps

Meh... TVs are already doing 960Hz! 480Hz is 2011 tech!

Sadly I do agree with this!

Are you comparing the quality of the games previously released by these devs with the quality of the Team ICO?

Statement on Feb. 13th from Ueda. PS4 announcement Feb. 20th. Definitely seems like a major possibility at this point.

As far as the rest of his statement, really seems like he's moved on to something else honestly. I doubt he's even the director anymore.

“To All Interested Parties:

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN’s release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.”

Sounds like he gives the overall creative vision and checks up on it, but otherwise someone else is doing all the substantial project management.

There's a new retweet from Yoshida of an Ueda tweet. Does anyone know if it says anything in relation to this?

I realize its not going to say "PS4 f*uck yeah", but still

I think his job is still the same, it was just a change in title because either Sony or Ueda wanted it to be apparent that he is moving on from his previous role after this project is completed.

Yup it seems like he's not the director, he's just a supervisor but he's not deeply involved with the game anymore. It's a situation similar to Final Fantasy XII.

Sounds like he's just a supervisor now, at least as I see it.
I see it that he continues being a designer as he always has been, who at the latest stages of development he only supervises that the last content and tweaks being made match the game design and creative vision. And as designer he never managed the project because it's the work of other people inside a team.

I also see that his undefined design and and game concept with unrealistic project goals to be reached in a normal time frame by their team. So that didn't work and ruined the project, which needed to be restarted several times. And after several years of patience they kicked out the main designer and the producer whose work are supposed to have this things secured.

Now the game would be on more professional hands who would have been set clear deas and affordable goals based in Ueda's original concept, who now is reviewing that the last content being made matches the design. Which would be the designer's job at this point of the project (if it's almost done as he hints saying that Sony decides when they want to release it).

It's just an announcement of the statement in the OP and then thanking people.

Yoshida is just as much to blame for this fiasco as Ueda. If the game really has moved to PS4 I'm going to be pretty pissed off since Yoshida closed down Studio Liverpool while paying Ueda and Team Ico's salaries and they can't even get one damn game out on the console they showed it for.
