Catching up, just watched those Majestic matches.

Landfall looks like it might be all right, it reminds me of Longshore which...I don't know how to feel about that just yet. Really hard to get a sense of the layout when the player was running around with his Boltshot drawn. Refreshing to see a human shotgun in multiplayer for once.

Skyline similarly looks good, but I noticed some crappy things like Swords spawning inside the bases via Global Ordnance. In what world is that a good idea? Having said that, I like the routes on that map, though again, it's a little hard to get a good idea of the full layout from gameplay.

I like what I saw of Monolith's layout...but then I saw someone using a Binary Rifle in the Team Regicide gameplay (meaning it wasn't Personal Ordnance). Why ruin what could be a good map with that nonsense and/or garbage?

We haven't seen Infinity Rumble before, right? So, is that going to be what dominates their upcoming FFA playlist? If so, no thank you, please delete, do not bother.
Aha, thanks. That's what I get for not checking Waypoint.

In that case, just delete Infinity Rumble and let the playlist live.

And then delete all other gametypes labeled Infinity everywhere.

Please.

I've nothing against binary rifles being ordnance drops (although I'd like the magazines to get cut.)

Cortana thread is awesome.

Just looked at new screenshots Major Nelson put up for the new maps which I assume are the official ones 343 has as well. All they showed were various close ups of Spartans. I have no idea what the maps look like based off them. I see the PR train is working well still.

I'll check out the video in a while. Hope it shows more.

Infinity Rumble? The description just sounds like FFA. How is it different? Why is it locked to Majestic owners?

Let me reply to you with a comparison to other popular gametypes:

In oddball you cant shoot back at anybody and you have to let go of the objective to shoot back, why you dont hate on oddball?

In Koth you are in the hill, tjete are some hills spots that are nades magnet,.like top mid in lookout or sniper plat in contruct from halo 3, why you dont hate the KoTH?

If you decide to play the objective a lot of the time you are going to die been the objective, thats why some team give rols to players, like the slayer type, and the objective type and those objective type never end up with a cute KD ratio.

I found to be the objective an interesting rol, because you have to be the most aware player on the team as you need to know when to pull objective, in some cases know what route to take with the objective at hand, other times when to be set on the objective, overall knowing how many of you teamates and your opponents are dead, even having a slight idea where is the enemy in the map.

If you for once give this gametype a chance you are going to like it, but i doubt thats going to happen for now, as i go to my next point:

Ranks for this playlist needs to come fast, the top players are all playing this, and for people like Karl, who have not enjoyed extraction, they wont be able to, when you get killed just by even getting close to the extraction spot. A lot of people will move on to other playlists/games this playlist will become just another MLG playlist but with different name (already is...)

When you drop the ball, is your time reverted back to 0 since you last picked up the ball? When you step out of the hill your time isn't reverted back to what it was before you entered the hill, is it? And yes. There are some bad hill placements in the game. That's why we should get rid of those hill placements. I don't know what Lookout is, but I'm assuming you mean Lockout.

Go through my posts again. Tell me where I mention that I want a "cute kd" for objective players. Then tell me where I want the ability for the objective player to at least be able to defend themselves without losing all progress on the objective.

Here are my points from one of my previous posts on the matter, reorganized for a bit of clarity:
-Extraction would be leagues better if it had sticky arming, but it doesn't.
-It would be better if it had a visible zone, but it doesn't.
-It would be so much better if the player didn't have to hold a button for an eternity(one reason why Dominion is bad).
-It would be better if the player could move their model while extracting.
-It would be better if the plant points were in better positions.

The first 4 are of the gametype itself. The last one is about the maps it's placed on. If it doesn't work very well on any map, it probably shouldn't be in matchmaking(I say shouldn't because I know that they are going to put it in regardless).

Split screen multiplayer is pretty bad for screen lag, especially with forge maps (to the point where I have to quit partway through a game because my friend and I get too fed up). Grifball courts are surprisingly pretty good about this.

I don't know man, I think you might be giving more credit than it is due. If this was intentional then that's interesting but I think the goal was to
paint Halsey as a villain.

It's setting up the big Pirates of the Caribbean clusterf*** of backstabbing and side teaming.

Because you know the UNSC is going to send Chief after the other Forerunner artifacts that Jul and Halsey will also be going after, and Jul is Arbiter's big opponent so Arbiter will want in on that, but John needs Halsey to "help" Cortana if she's even still "alive," and Halsey is going to want to turn Chief to her side to "save Cortana," and Arbiter's going to want Chief to kill Jul and Jul is going to want Halsey to kill Arbiter and so on and so forth. Then Jack Sparrow and Will will have to stop Palmer from killing Lasky while Lasky, Barbosa and the Arbiter defend Sanghelios from the Didact, Davy Jones and an army of fishmen Forerunner.

Its going to be awesome.

Just watched the DLC video. Monolith and Skyline look amazing. I don't really know about Landfall. Looks way better than Crimson I can tell you that.

Because of the networking model they use to handle the AI, there really isn't any solution that I can think of. Your best bet is to play as geographically local as possible.
Even that doesn't matter. Spartan Ops netcode is utterly horrific; I've never had one solid connection in all the games I've played, which is the polar opposite experience of what Reach's Fierfight offered for me. Such a shame.

I don't get these quotes. Why the hell are they making infinity rumble? That's basically fiesta.

Completely forgot I clicked the multi-quote buttons earlier, was going to try and explain how to multi-quote & what it does to someone. I'll just edit those out.

While it does suck Infinity Rumble is going it, they tweaked the Doubles PODs pretty well, even if there still are weapons in there :/

You enjoy getting killed by being shot once in the foot?
It's a 1HK power weapon that is more powerful than the SR at long ranges by less effective close up. I like all the new Promthean weapons, I just think they should have their ammo cut to compensate for their generally greater power. (3 shots max for incineration cannon, for instance.)

I've played a couple good games of Extraction, and I find the basic mechanics fine, although I do wish you could move around a little as long as you were holding down the button. The clear turnaround time before it converts the point makes for some interesting pushes. I really didn't get it on the Crimson maps but on Relay it works pretty well.

Gears of War Judgement should have been a downloadable expansion for Gears 3.

Same way ODST should have been for Halo 3.

Charging full price is typical Microsoft.
ODST was in Germany at launch at most places for 39,99€ while normal retail is 69,99€

For 69,99 you got the ODST special edition with controller .. I think the pricing was fair.

$60 for the campaign, firefight and all the Halo 3 maps was worth it for me. Microsoft and Bungie shafted themselves by calling it a cheaper expansion early on though. Once you have that inpression, $60 was going to seem like too much. It's a shame, because I would have loved to have a mythic disk for Anniversary too, but I'm pretty sure the single disc $40 price was a response to ODST.

Soooo thank you 343 for the "Making of" video with the Majestic Map Pack. Please do this with future map packs as it's much better than an awkward 10 minute run through with IGN. I enjoyed watching it.

I'm glad the maps are actually small. Hallelujah. I'm disappointed that they're basically just brown/grey/white, but at least they're small. I just hope they play well.

Curiosity question, did 343 make these maps, or were they outsourced as well?

outsourced to certain affinity (kind of)

a collaborative effort according to the article

The main reason why I hated how ODST was full price was not paying it, but it was how people judged it because of that full price label. In almost every review, they didn't judge it as an expansion, but as a full game instead. If ODST was downloadable, it would be considered the best DLC this gen (or at least in top 5), but no one looks at it like that.

Judging by the 'Making Of', 343 made them.

Certain Affinity

Well that answers that.

Co-production with CA:
"We do collaborative development," Kynan Pearson, lead multiplayer level designer at 343, told Polygon in a recent interview. "We work on certain parts, and they work on certain parts. With this map pack in particular, [Certain Infinity] did the level layouts. We would playtest together, we'd give feedback and ask for certain refinements ... and they did the majority of the layouts and figuring out the concept work for what the visual language of the levels was going to be and what their themes are."

i'm kinda new, clocked around 8 hours of multiplayer so far, only done 4v4 and 8v8. i dig it.

positive K/D ratio so far, SL 20 i think. lack of team work doesn't bother me, but still, how can people not understand the concepts of "taking higher ground" or "circling".

Thanks. I figured DLC such as the map packs would be part of what kept the art and design teams at 343 busy while Halo 5 worked through pre-production, which is how Bungie staged their map packs. So I'm surprised to see so much of the work going to outside companies, still.

Halo 6. Chief vs. halsey.

Calling it now.

I'd cry. And then I'd finally give up on the franchise.

343i has created an enormous back story with the Forerunner, humans and Precursors/Flood. Halo 5 and 6 should be about the Precursors judging whether or not the humans are worthy of carrying the mantle and then acting out on that decision - in which we know that the Precursors would attempt to wipe out humanity if they weren't worthy.

It gives a big overarching story that's about survival and the fate of the galaxy. It's what I hoped Halo 4 would be about... Or at least alluded to.

She'll have a robot arm by the time we see her in Halo 5, and probably some kind of Forerunner enhancements, possibly even armor and an ancilla.
I would like to see what kind of arm Halsey cooked up for herself. Certainly something a bit more elaborate than Kat's prolly.

Just saw the Majestic video. Looks great, and I can't wait to downloaded it soon.

Landfall and Skyline are the two that pop out for me. I hope they're as good as they make them out to be.
