What was Media Molecule thinking with their Move tech demo?

You model your own objects/characters.
You most likely define their skeletons (must have basic animations).
You share your models.
You build scenarios.
You "animate" as puppets (notice the move controller positions and button pressing...), interacting with objects.

It seems like a further expansion to what they attempted with Little Big Planet, although no gameplay (rule/goal setting, mechanics) were shown. It may not have any of those, and just be a quite deep tool to make animations (given LBP had quite the large following of 'video makers', with sackboys dancing and storytelling).

It was pretty simple even if he didn't say much.

I was totally into it at the beginning.

Then music started to happen and I got really confused and just read Twitter instead.

Wut? I thought it was great. Amazing tech. Basically Zbrush but on console. I'm sure they will build another great game with this.
Seriously, I thought the potential for this was amazing!

What's there not to understand? They did everything you saw with a move controller and there engine. Just watch Youtube, people will create amazing things with it...

The 3D sculpting looked cool, but I don't actually understand what the end part was.

They emphasized that it was "live" and "shot in one take"--what was? The animations clearly weren't procedurally generated. It's possible the movements of the controllers had something to do with what was happening, but even then I'm not sure. Also the music obviously had to be pre-baked since it was too technically complex to be generated from simple button-pushing. They said it was just a concept rather than a game, but I don't actually understand what the concept was either.
the sounds and everything were done beforehand but the puppeteering was the thing they were showing off with that part. Yeah weird.

I thought it was really cool but I was also trying to figure out how it was all working when they were doing the band stuff, It felt like they weren't fully controlling the things with the Move but they were programmed to do all that stuff already.

I'm not sure I understand what the puppeteering was doing. During the first dance segment it made sense, but as soon as the left puppet turned and picked up the guitar it became nonsense. The whole instrument section doesn't seem like it meaningfully connected to the motions of the controllers, even if you pretend there was no audio going on.

I saw Wii Music trending on twitter when they were showing that lol
But really I thought it looked kinda cool, dont see the problem

i mean if they were offering some sort of playful 3D SCULPTOR that came for free with every PS4 (or maybe was like $3 on PSN), it'd be neat and all, but uh... seemed like otherwise a waste of time
I kinda see potential, if MM has what I have in mind. Basically minecraft but more realistic and with characters you create. If you take it further along LBP/LBP2 design philosophy, then you can think about basically creating your own game. It will be dumbed down and stream lined for sure, but something like RPG maker or something. Of course that requires adding kinetics to the 3d modeling and I'm sure some sort of that will be there, though very simple. The possibilities are there. Imagine an RPG where your main character is a giant cock, and your quest is to find a hole.

I'm worried Sony kills MM by making them their gimmick whore...
The mini game game on Vita (ok it's charming ok..) then this...

I found it very bizarre as well.

I think it was the best part of the conference. Really interesting concept, and I loved every minute. The music part got a bit Wii Music-esque, but eh, I loved the sculpting/world building idea.

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!
I was getting Wii Music flashbacks during it.

Worst part of the conference.

No fucking idea what they were aiming for with that. The projects they were working on may turn out to be good, but that demonstration was ghastly.

I like the concept, its very endearing, as with all MM games. But I dont really see how they are going to sell this as a game. Its fun and very creative, but I fail to see how people are going to be willing to pay for that.

It looked really amazing and ambitious, but it seems like they made a game for game developers rather than the general public.

I think that MM thinks we're as creative as they are.

MM, you are wrong. I can't draw let alone sculpt a statue. Stop making me try to be what I'm not!

The real time sculpting tech looks amazing and I was very impressed with some of the results. I'm not sure that it would be much fun for people without a decent amount of artistic ability though. The rest of the presentation seemed rather ill-conceived and they ended up leaving me confused about what this new game actually is. At this point I'd honestly rather have had a new Little Big Planet with 8GB of RAM to play with.

Fuck you. Drive Club looked awesome.

As a follow-up to MotorStorm? I think not. Tweets and Instant messages arent enough to make a fundamentally dull looking game seem fun. We have enough damn street racing games, i was looking forward to some variety in the genre. WaveStorm. Something cool.

I think you're not getting what they're trying to achieve with this. It will probably evolve into something like 3d LBP - easy to use game creating tool for everyone. One of the best announcement I heard at Sony's conference - just imagine all the things you could do with it.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Gamers bitch and moan about developers delivering and some things over and over again. But when someone comes along and a actually shows something new and interesting you guys recoil in horror.

That Move demo was one of the best and interesting gaming related tech I've seen along side the Rift. Their obviously working on a little big planet type of game but in a full 3D environment. How can anyone not see that?

I was laughing my ass of when the answer to that long monologue about recording dreams was the PS move controller, then thought they delivered something very interesting with that sculpture concept; everything after that had no connection with reality so I guess that's their dream

Ostensibly, I imagine they were making a mass-market product, but they just came across as vague and odd.

what i dont understand is why the move still exists. THE DUALSHOCK FOUR HAS A LIGHT ON IT THAT THE NEW CAMERA THING DETECTS DOESNT IT?!?! The most intuitive thing they can do is get rid of it.

Move allows for more dynamic motion versus a controller designed to be held by two hands.

Missed opportunity at the end. Really.

I loved it all, though. <3 Alex Evans. GDC just brings back too many good memories for me not to like waterer MM has to feed me.

Excepet that it's MM that did this by themselves.

They like to go into uncharted territory , for better or worse.. That's creativity i guess.

I think being able to sculpt and animate your own assets is a pretty huge step for user content driven games like LBP.

Holy fuck is this thread for real?

Zbrush-lite with accessible rigging and live puppetry tools is exactly the kind of thing MM could and should do well. Far far far far FAR and away the best thing at the Sony event. Positively stunning.

I wouldn't consider myself to be a 'motion gamer' or anything but that 3D sculpting stuff was actually really cool. I was imagining creating my own 3D models to plant into a LBP level.

I think the reaction some on GAF had to it is just knee-jerk "Shun the motion controls! Especially Move because no one is using it!!"

I loved how the dude tried to sell what's essentially Zbrush for Dummies as a huge innovation. Even more funny considering Zbrush is very much a standard tool in game development for many years.
