They're most definitely not leaving the Wii U to die. Most of their internal studios have shifted over to the Wii U, meanwhile 3DS titles seem to be handled by collaborative studios and subsidiaries.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - Next Level Games + Nintendo
Smash Bros. 3DS - Namco Bandai + Nintendo
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate - Mercury Steam + Konami
Ace Attorney 5 - Capcom
Pokemon X and Y - GameFreak + Nintendo
Monster Hunter 4 - Capcom
Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins - Travelller's Tales + Nintendo
Donkey Kong Country 3DS - Retro? Port, anyway
Shin Megami Tensei 4 - Atlus
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - AlphaDream + Nintendo
Mario Golf 3DS - Camelot + Nintendo

Nintendo's major internal branches are busy with Mario Kart Wii U, Super Mario Wii U, Monolith with X, Retro with who-knows-what-else, and the Zelda team with Zelda Wii U (and maybe the Wind Waker port).

When it comes to third parties, I think Nintendo's in the unfortunate position of just having to deal with the situation they've got. They're a limited company with finite resources. If third parties stop giving a shit, even if it's Nintendo's fault, Nintendo can't wave a wand and solve everything. They can only make X amount of games at any one time, and have Y amount of partnerships (see: The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2).

With the 3DS, the line-up looks good because it's doing well in Japan. Developers are interested it in now, so Nintendo doesn't really have to do anything. They'll make games as it is (arguably) the portable system of choice.

But I also think it's worth remembering that the 3DS is doing really well in Japan only. Sales are still fairly lukewarm in both the US and Europe and outside of a few spikes due to major titles I don't see them getting much better. Japan might love the 3DS, but the rest of the world doesn't.

I think that we should accept that portable sales outside Japan will not repeat the glorious DS/PSP times, and that's all.
In terms of economical issues, I think that they are now doing fine in the West with the 3DS and the 3DS XL that are both able to profit and are selling well (not great as in Japan and not great as the DS, but the 3DS is head-to-head with the 360 in the US and the PS3 in the EU in terms of 2012 sales, with the gap covered by its great JP sales)

Btw, I agree with you about Wii U: they are working hard internally to support it but they are limited in terms of resources and not still "on fire" with the HD development. Big difference with the 3DS that was able to speed up some internal development and cover the lineup very well thanks to JP third parties. TP on the Wii U will lack "forever" but we cannot say that they are sitting on their "Wii money", considering the push they are trying to put into partnerships (distribution deals with Capcom for MH, and probably DQ? still unknown...; publishing and founding partnership with Platinum; development partnership for Smash with Namco and Atluls for SMT&FE and so on)

Main problem: even so they'll not be able to offer constant software on the shelves, compared to the Nextgen twins. So, considering that there's no "Remote-sport" phenomena on the Wii U gamepad, they'll suffer in terms of HW LTD

When is Guild02 supposed to be coming out? It does have an Keiji Inafune game (he seems to be working on a hell of a lot of projects).

Also hoping Konami comes to their senses and releases games. Like, PSP-esque games on the 3DS.

Now you mention it, Konami hasn't done that much on the 3DS. Off the top of my head, I can name New Love Plus, Snake Eater 3D, that Beyond the Labyrinth game I remember looking quite nice and the upcoming Castlevania game.

For Konami, a Yugioh game would probably be a safe bet, sales-wise. Personally, I would love a 3DS port and localisation of their Suikoden PSP game that never saw the light of day outside Japan. I would love a 3DS Silent Hill game that would also mark the series' return to form, but that's pretty much a pipe dream.

Thanks to Cheesemeister for doing this.

Ten minutes 'till Japan time.

So weird when the Nintendo direct page presents me with a German stream player interface for the Japanese-only stream. Damn you, geoIP!

Goddammit, have to leave for work in 10 minutes, and I just learn about this now!

Oh well, will catch it on YouTube when I get back! Hopefully I won't be spoiled before then.

The only Final Fantasy title I can realistically see announced (not today) on 3DS is a new Final Fantasy Tactics.
