Why would there be meltdowns if pretty much everyone is expecting it to happen soon, if not next week?

Stabilizing, stabilizing, STABILIZING ... It happened, Jim. She's under 10K!

Yeah, it's expected.

Did the Square Enix guy say that a Final Fantasy game would come to PS4 this year?

He said that they would have Final Fantasy news at E3, obviously in relation to the PS4.

When they said they were showing a tech demo that was not a current game, I really expected them to trot out an updated version of the Final Fantasy VII PS3 tech demo. Was disappoint. :(

I can't wait for the thread where the Wii U goes under 10k. Watching the meltdowns will be amusing.
The thing is that Nintendo fans can condole themselves by 3DS, that's why people aren't worrying much. But for me personally at least, Wii U <10k is really surprising [though I fully expect it now, but not 2 months ago]

Sony didn't list games so it's a bit less misleading because you can't really get your hopes up.

Didn't catch the whole list (stuttering video), but saw that there was an awful lot. The real question, then, will be which of those studios will go under before they get their chance to release a PS4 game.

Ah, so he said "E3". I thought he said "release".

You can see the picture here:

Several of these publishers/developers are smaller, so we're looking at digital download titles only as well.

Several of the listed studios don't exist as independent entities at all. They listed Grasshopper and GungHo, D3 and Namco, LucasArts and Disney.

I don't think Genki makes games anymore.

Yeah, Japan was a 3DS only country before the conference, just as much so after.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS has more relevant 3rd party games announced in a few hours than PS4 and Wii U will have in the entire 2013 combined.

For those reading, let me spare you a reply:

"Wait for TGS"
"Wait for Nintendo Direct"
"Wait for PS4 Heaven"

so Tomodachi Collection: New Life would be the 3DS title for Golden Week... Luigi in March and SMT in May plus all other smaller titles. 3DS is pretty set for those 3 months.

So with the tidbit about DQX at the end of the 3DS third-party Nintendo Direct, anyone else think that Nintendo just couldn't scrounge up enough third-party support for Wii U currently to warrant a full Nintendo Direct, so put the one biggish piece of news they had in this one?

More and more, that's looking to be the case. I'm sure there are some games, but maybe they're not at a stage to be shown properly yet??

Though they even showed Bayonetta 2 being developed, that's just a big bulletpoint into catering to hardcores. This should apply to currently developed games. Nintendo is in a tough spot.

At least wait till the we know the launch lineup. PS4 has potential to have a great first year in Japan if MGS, FF, GT can make it by holiday 2014. The biggest issue with the ps4 is probably be the price however Sony does not have to worry about third party support because it is clear the WiiU is not being adopted like the 3DS was in Japan.

Also PS4 falcom game.....lol

Resident Evil Revelations Direct...

3 games even of those level won't save an expenive PS4 vs the 3DS. Although this morning's direct didn't bring the influx of support I expected.

Will the PS4 third party list be the infamous 3DS third party list again?
Nope, the vast majority of those 3DS games actually turned into something (at least Japan side). It's more like the infamous Vita 3rd party support list:

I agree it is incredibly early, but nothing I saw yesterday changed my opinion that Sony will be focusing even heavier on the West than last generation. I would be somewhat surprised to see good Japanese support at launch, first and third party.

Don't those seem like pretty big ifs considering how long we got to watch FF XIII and GT5 canoe through years of development after first being shown?

Well wasnt this direct primarily just aimed at the next few months for japan? I think the direct was a pretty big misnomer though considering it was supposed to be strictly about 3rd party 3DS games but 1st party and wii u titles bled into there. Granted I'd hardly expect any significant news. Watchdogs and revelations at this rate could be considered a blessing for wii u since publishers seem reluctant to even port their PS360 projects over. Didn't Iwata say he'd be addressing lack of 3rd party support for Wii U at GDC? I seem to see some places citing iwata saying it at their big January Direct then again Iwata uses google street view as an example in that same quote so that is scary.

Haha wishfull thinking aren't wii ?
Based on current anounced titles, the PS4 would be lucky to sell Vita numbers. However, there's plenty of time for more titles to be anounced and I think there is little doubt that they will get good 3rd party support. Its just matter of when and commenting on sales potential now seems silly as we have little indication of launch lineup.

Isn't it too soon to release Tomodachi Collection while Animal Crossing is still selling gangbusters? I thought they would save it for the Holidays or something.

I dunno if that article I linked earlier is fully up to date (Chocobo Racing still black and Shin Megami Tensei still red) but around 25 cancellations/vaporware annoucements out of 70 still seems like a hefty chunk to me. Would be really interesting to see how this Vita list compares too though, I'm too lazy to count. I just like the idea of quantifying the BS for all these company announcement lists heh.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Surprised me too, they aren't playing around this year, seems like they won't allow the 3DS to fall into normal sales level. Of course they need the success and with MH4/later Pokemon the Userbase can't be bug enough.

Although this morning's direct didn't bring the influx of support I expected.

This was one of those "let's go over what's coming out in the next few months and give some dates" Nintendo Directs. There was another like this last year, where it went through the games in chronological order and then repeated it in a calendar format at the end. The farthest out games were SMTIV on May 23 and MH4 in "Summer." There will obviously be more games past March/April than those from third-parties, so this one probably was not supposed to be a "announce a bunch of new games" Nintendo Direct.

Well wasnt this direct primarily just aimed at the next few months for japan?

Yeah. So there's not going to be a whole lot of anything in the next few month's for Wii U from third-parties, then, since they didn't put out a Wii U specific ND like this 3DS one.

Well we've known this for a while. Did anyone expect new titles to be anounced and released before their "launch window"(lol) titles?

RE: Revelations should be out before some of their "launch window" games. There just really is nothing much for the system for months here. Hopefully when Pikmin 3 and/or Wii Fit U do come out, they'll actually put some effort into a renewed sales push for the console.

I said Japan side. The only ones that didn't amount to something there were Chocobo Racing (was real, undoubtedly canceled), Bomberman (because Konami murdered Hudson), Kororinpa (ditto), Ninja Gaiden (who knows?) and Persona (YET, Atlus managed ALL their other prelaunch announcements). 4 to 5 out of 41 doesn't seem quite so bad.

Dev support lists are another matter entirely though. I think roughly half that Vita list actually released or announced game at this point.

Don't those seem like pretty big ifs considering how long we got to watch FF XIII and GT5 canoe through years of development after first being shown?

MGS"5" (whatever Ground Zero/Phantom Pain is supposed to be, that is) is likely a cross-generation game, so it should be on track to release next year. In case of Final Fantasy, it depends on what they are going to show. Versus might be cross-generation too, I also think that a PS4 version of FF14 is very likely (similar to DQX being on both Wii and Wii U), that might a potential first year release too.

Gran Turismo on the other hand? No chance. The very existence of Club Driver pretty much confirms that there won't be a new GT any time soon.

Though, another problem becomes apparent this way: All of these games will likely also hit the PS3, so PS4 sales likely won't benefit much from them.

So with the tidbit about DQX at the end of the 3DS third-party Nintendo Direct, anyone else think that Nintendo just couldn't scrounge up enough third-party support for Wii U currently to warrant a full Nintendo Direct, so put the one biggish piece of news they had in this one?

Realistically, who would even be developing games for the Wii U that Nintendo could announce? A Direct that consists only of announcements of multiplattform games also receiving a Wii U version would be kind of a strange thing. And new multiplat games would likely be announced somewhere else.

Wii U exclusives? Who would develop those and why? The small developers who are doing low budget console releases like Falcom, Gust etc have a fanbase that's traditionally more present on Sony plattforms, so there's not much reason why they would change tactics and develop for the Wii U instead. The bigger ones like Capcom, Konami, SE etc? Well, since these tend to make games with a bigger budget that are supposed to appeal to both Japanese and Western audiences, it wouldn't make all that much sense to develop those exclusively for the Wii U.

I'm already surprised that the 3DS is getting not as much support as one would expect. Big games are mostly in development by the usual suspects (Level-5, Capcom) -- if even the 3DS can't get as much attention as one would think, why would the Wii U fare any better?

That's the first shipment (KH3D had a first Western shipment of 650k) John is referring to actual units sold to customers.

Those numbers seem to be from NA alone tho, not counting EU.

Aaaanyway, poor WiiU this is going to get uglier real soon, ouch.

Bolded.
For his own protection (from being banned), I agree. It's stuff like that builds until somebody explodes and gets the ban hammer. That's not bad, but that's usually how it starts. You can't control other people on the internet (and even if you could, you shouldn't), so recognize that not everyone agrees and pick your battles very carefully.

Well he apparently put me on ignore just for making a Wii U sales prediction, so he probably shouldn't post in sales threads at all if you don't like having differing opinions.
