CVG Rumor: Microsoft to reveal EA partnership at Next Xbox event

I don't think you get it, the xb3 is done. It's dead in the water, dead on arrival. First, they Are going to make used games illegal, effectively killing GameStop, my sole source of income for my household. This is the worst move m$ EVER could have made.

Gamestop is a sinking ship regardless of this. Online distribution is the way of the future...

Abandon ship while you can.

way of the future.

Destiny is being published by Activision whose game, in terms of popularity and mindshare, shits from a great height on any exclusive MS has ever put out. Blops 2 is the number one game on XBox Live. I imagine Activision know what they are doing and Destiny is going to be pretty big.

Or Microsoft saw Destiny first hand and wasn't that excited.

But they saw Respawn's new game and were very impressed. I think that's what's happening. Respawn's game is going to be a timed exclusive, or maybe, just maybe a straight up exclusive for the new Xbox.

Can you show us where microsoft has said that xbox 3 will have 4gb GDDR3? I need a link otherwise shut your mouth.

It's been proven. The digital foundry guys did a diagnosis of the nextbox and they said that that is what it is. There was a thread form 3 + days ago newb.

All I'm saying is that m$ is effectively killing an entire cottage industry by not allowing used games, and it kills the, and people will kill the, for it. You just watch, it will be like niebleheim at the end of disc 2

It's DDR3 not GDDR3.

There is no way of proving that. The only fact is that money would be left on the table. People would be buying PS4s and those gamers would have no access to FIFA

Not even sure why this is a discussion, EA told investors FIFA will be on PS4 just today

Dreams of the destruction of Sony and the emergence of an MS monopoly are getting their dicks hard, logic be damned is the motto ........ don't stop the dirty dreams until the sex wee comes out.

We need competition, desiring any company to drop is out is pathetic.

Yes, considering the huge popularity of FIFA series in Europe, or BF around the world it would be a true game changer.

But it will not happen imo. Nowadays, the idea of any type of potential exclusivity from a company like EA is delusional, a minor partnership though, would be logic, that´s all.

Why do people keep saying this like FIFA has been a juggernaut for decades or something?

EA has had a massive licensing advantage for a long time now and it wasn't too long ago that Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution was eating their lunch in Europe and Asia. The change to the PS3/360 generation is really when EA was able to turn the tables, as Konami failed to step up the quality of their game and EA actually worked to make a good title.

EA still views WE/PE as a legitimate threat, hence why they constantly bring up FIFA v. WE/PE sales now that they're on top. The last thing they'd do is take a predominantly European/Asian franchise and not put it on the strongest console in those regions.

Hell, Winning Eleven was still a million seller on consoles in Japan this generation and that is with FIFA gaining on them. MS isn't delivering them Japan and there is clearly six figures or better in new software sales to be gained by taking that market from WE as well.

Exclusive DLC in Respawn's new game? I could see that. Maybe even Battlefield (though doubtful, as that would weaken their cross platform war with CoD).

Madden is highly doubtful (the license is up after 2014, the NFL won't renew if EA isn't pushing the NFL brand uber ales). FIFA is a non-starter.

Other than that EA doesn't have much of note. Bioware's next game as a full exclusive is the best MS could probably land because Bioware's declining game quality got massively exposed when it was no longer judged through the "platform exclusive" filter.

Where are you guys even getting this from? Straight up fan fiction in here

I think the Madden and Dreamcast situation already proved that. There were lots of people who didnt buy a Dreamcast simply because they couldnt get Madden on it. Thats not opinion, it was well documented back then.

most of microsoft outcome would be exclusive dlc which i think is whats happening. not just one title but all titles within 3 years.

It's something I've just had a feeling about for a while. Whatever Respawn is cooking up is probably going to be a big deal, and I think Microsoft sees the value in tying that new franchise to their new console in some way, like they did with Gears and COD last gen.

Also, we now have these new rumors emerging, suggesting something is up between Microsoft and EA.

Yet the NFL 2K games sold bucket loads proving there was a market for it, and money was being left on the table by EA

Why are they losing Europe exactly?

Because EA would probably threaten Sony with pulling FIFA from their systems if Sony developed their own football franchise. This is all hypothetical anyway because Sony has no incentive to invest in a football franchise when they get 10s of million of dollars through royalties from FIFA.

Without knowing the nature of the partnership, this news is really useless. It could be a huge deal (even if this forum dislikes EA games) or a nothing deal. Obviously EA games are going to be on the PS4 but there certainly could be ways to structure releases, and even launch games this year that would substantially boost the 720.

Seems clear to me that BF4 is going to be a huge unveil at the 720 conference.

Still cant see EA and acti jumping ship from who they use to support. It might just be showing off some features of a game....like Respawn Entetainments IP

Secondly, they only have 4gb GDDR3. 3! That is 2 less than 5, effectively making the xbox3 4 to 6 years behind the ps4 in terms of technology. It's pure science. The Xbox IS inferior. Like I said,,dead on the water. /THREAD

::sigh:: Oh boy...

I have a feeling Sony saw Titan and are getting Blizzards next MMO. Don't ask me how or why, I just have a feeling.

Adds up with what was said about when we will see BF4 by, and the date of the supposed April reveal. Which also tells me that date has been locked for awhile. Will be interesting to see what deals MS locks in early this gen compared to the last.

These are businesses and like all businesses they are constantly making new partnerships and deals that they think will make them more money.

1 hour later GT asked blizzard if they are exclusive to PS4/PS3 and they said 'Well this is sony's night so we don't want to discuss it".

Interesting. Wasn't aware of this. MS really going to have to open it up to allow for that AH.

Apparently they weren't selling enough to keep them from turning the game into a budget title, pissing off the NFL, and losing the license.

So in the end EA made even more money!

it will not matter since people in europe/asia loves ps brand and they bought fifa over pes since the latter was of ok quality this gen. Not to forget PES was a much bigger brand before this gen and that could happen next gen too depending on quality

people's preferences in asia and europe next gen will remain unchanged and console wars is decided in both territories

if Fifa goes xbox exclusive , people would just play some other soccer games on their next playstation 4

Not that Sony would ever bother to resurrect TiF, but EA would still be bound by the terms of their FIFPro licence and release FIFA on PlayStation platforms if Sony decided to do it. They might phone the ports in and make them shitty, but they would still have to release them.

Anyway, TiF is not the main concern for EA, PES is. If EA leaves the market open in Europe it gives Konami a way back in, and there has been renewed talk that Konami are ready to pay the big bucks for a licence which would put them on level terms with FIFA for the first time. There is no way EA make FIFA exclusive or even make some content exclusive to NXTBX.

FIFA, Madden and BF are all too big to fuck about with without EA incurring the wrath of their investors who are growing very weary of John Riccitiello's all talk no profit leadership.

I don't get how EA would lose money? They're assuming people that want Fifa will choose the Xbox. No one that really likes FIFA is not gonna buy an XBOX if that's the only place you can play it. People forget not a single console has been sold. EA has lost zero next gen sales.

Gran Turismo is a stronger IP in Europe than FIFA. Don't obfuscate the FIFA brand with football fandom as a whole. EA walling off that fan base when Pro Evolution still exists would destroy them.

It would be especially painful when that would obviously result in Sony basically having the ICE team move into Konami's offices and making sure Pro Evo destroys FIFA technically.

Their market share would drop to nearly zero in Japan, they'd lose all forward progress they made last generation in Europe, and all for what? A consolidated soccer fanbase in the U.S., by far it's weakest market, and whatever moneyhat MS is giving them. I doubt MS is ready to write the eight or even nine figure check needed to make that happen.

This doesn't even get into the politics of EA trying to keep their FIFA license (expires in 2014) with Sony as a voice of dissent. Sony is after all a global sponsor of FIFA, the World Cup, the Women's World Cup, etc.. Sony has been cutting FIFA solid eight figure checks every year for half a decade now, and will likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future as it's one of their strongest marketing angles. That makes EA's licensing agreement look microscopic in comparison.

MS has always been about the content. I can see a torrent of (timed?) exclusive DLC.

Forget Jump In, the next motto will be First On ...

you heard it here first yadda yadda

caught one...

NO way you caught one. I mean yeah I like xbox 360 but I've been posting on how I really like ps4 and if Microsoft doesn't bring it I'm jumping ship. My problem is their is way to much misinformation in these threads. Then other threads where people are quoting people with misinformation into other threads. Then these stupid rumors fly and never stop. If it has 4 gbs of DDR fine but come on we know thats not true.

Honestly, people need to calm down with this rumor. Like I said in my previous post, these companies are constantly making these kinds of partnerships and it always entails co-marketing for games, games that have extra content at launch, exclusivity on some dlc and a possibility of some new IP debuting on the platform first. EA are not going to pull their biggest franchises from the PS4 because EA loves money too much and it doesn't make all round good business sense. The console warriors need to sit down and take a 10 min breather to cool down.

If your posts were funny that would be one thing but you don't really have the sense of humor to it off. Also, discussion about these next gen systems is already volatile enough without your pretend trolling.

Indeed. The article is pretty much full of shit anyway. Both sources are non-MS and non-EA ones, they have taken last night's conference completely out of context and put together a puff piece with little to no real info in it. Coupled with some highly selective bolding by the OP it has lead to a 5 page thread on basically nothing.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if all of this was about MS showing Respawn's new game at NXTBX unveiling with a bit of exclusive DLC and the source is from Respawn (who are not part of EA, but in the EA Partners programme like Insomniac).

Can you imagine the drama if EA did go exclusive on Nextbox and Sony counters with Valve exclusively having STEAMBOX partition allowing PS4 and PC games on one system??

Destiny looks a lot like Halo. There's no need for MS to have two Halo-type series exclusive to their system. Hell, they could do some of the shit Destiny is doing in Halo 5 for all we know.

for all I know, Halo 4 could have done (some of) what Destiny intends to do. It did not.
I'll keep my Halo 5 reinventing the Halo wheel very much in check until the game is running on my "XBOX microtransactions".

Oups, can't resist.
The fuck would Halo 5, part 2 of the Reclaimer trilogy, institue raids and loot in SP when the Chief is en route to become Space Jesus...
Doing this in Spartan Ops will demultiply the budget needed for that segment of the game.

I have a feeling Sony saw Titan and are getting Blizzards next MMO. Don't ask me how or why, I just have a feeling.

I have a feeling as well and thats Rockstar are going to do an upgraded next gen exclusive version of GTA5 for PS4

On the other hand, that feeling could be the result of last nights curry

I think I just gave a very good reason Microsoft would want to do this. So there is your why. Also, we now have rumors pointing towards something being up between Microsoft and EA.

Not a bad shout and I wouldn't be too shocked to see it happen as well. The game is inevitably going to have a massive marketing campaign when it comes out and I am sure Microsoft would love to have their console being a part of it.
