Halo |OT15| Beta-tested, GAF approved

People don't magically stop bitching when the symptoms causing the bitching are left unfixed.

Regardless of what they plan on addressing, assuming that people will simply stop speaking out because you asked them to is ridiculous.

People are asked to stop eating McDonald's because it will kill them, but that doesn't even seem to be an adequate deterrent.

Expecting people, especially people on the internet, to not say bad things about you is insane. Expecting people who have a reason and understanding as to why they're upset to simply remain quiet per your request is practically insulting.

I don't think he's looking for people to magically stop bitching.

Bitching about a game you play and want to be better is not what I am talking about.

Anyways, it's not my job to defend him any more than it's his job to post here. If people can't figure out why he wants to take a posting hiatus, nothing I say is going to help you understand.

Maybe fix the complaints? lol

oh boy

But what can they fix exactly? I mean the game has shipped, any major changes like a UI overhaul just aren't happening. It'd be a waste of time and money.

See, if you're 343 do you try and win back the people who haven't played since November or have sold their game or do you try to keep the 15-20k people playing infinity gametypes happy?

The people who want a DMR nerf don't understand, that for everyone who hates the DMR range, auto aim, magnetism, there are people who love it. Even HaloGAF is split on the DMR. I'd prefer it to be removed entirely and that's what they've done with BR starts in game types like doubles pro, throwdown etc.

I agree the ranks on waypoint only are a cop out and I wish we could at least view ours in game.

People wanted X on death, and they actually did that, which was probably tough, 5 months after launch and with the team probably already having started development on next gen halo 5 or whatever.

Though I agree that play list management needs to be better, as do custom options. Let's wait for the TU to go live and then we can criticize on what needs to still be fixed.

Panel Report Card.

+Forge Island - Looking forward to see what the community comes up with. Can't wait to test out maps on this new location for matchmaking
+New Forge Pieces in Forge Island - Not a huge Forge guy but new pieces sounds like a good deal to me
+Ability to changes things on the fly - Damage, Firing rate etc. Awesome.
+Forge Island is free and is coming out really soon - Really awesome stuff

-De-scoping change probably not happening. - I guess we're gonna have to find another way to nerf the sniper
-CSR for every playlist - Why? It totally waters down what CSR is in the totally non-competitive playlists (almost everything except Throwdown and Doubles) How does Join in Progress fit with CSR?
-No confirmed universal weapon balances - Come on now.

Overall I would SLRP this Panel a B+

In my opinion:

Ranks fucked halo 2 so bad. I was disappointed to see them in halo 3. Getting rid of them has worked.

Apart from dicks sitting in camo camping there is basically no obnoxious gameplay in 4. If you want to e-peen you will be able to soon with waypoint. I don't get the hate. Carry on keeping cheaters out of halo.

So this was on reddit. I'm assuming it's been posted already, but in the off chance someone hasn't seen it yet:

I don't think people mean to be disrespectful on purpose or to be spiteful, it's just that pretty much everyone here used to love Halo as a franchise, whether it be memory wise or gameplay wise. It's only right that people get upset when a series they used to love suddenly takes a U-turn and falls so far from what made it great.

Props to 343 for giving us the utilitarian map Forgers have wanted for a while now.

I remember before how I described Erosion as the Novice map, Ravine as Intermediate, and Impact as the 'Advanced' map in terms of making a map out of it. From all accounts I think I can slot Forge Island as the 'Pro' map, or the MLG AGL map for Forgers.

These 3 TUs arent fixing the game? Thats news to me.
The TUs have mostly just fixed bugs or added in obvious features that should have been in the game in the first place. Better late than never, but by no means does it fix what's wrong with Halo 4.

I'm probably the only one left who still wants that.

Everyone wants a better UI, preferably similar to Halo2/Reach but it's just not happening 5 months post launch.

Though you can bet they'll make it much better for Halo 5. I think the UI is the one thing universally hated by everyone. Even IGN said the UI was bad in their review.

Frankie is leaving? Goddamn.

Halo 4 was far from perfect but they are making big steps towards correcting it and it does seem this thread is a circle jerk for hate. Not to say good criticism is not posted but damn this thread gets negative at times.

Forge Island seems great and making it free pretty good stuff more than bungie did with Superior Sandbox.

CSR not in game is a big issue for me, I have no drive to attain a rank if you can't see it without resorting to external apps.

Map quality so far has been fairly poor with the exception of Landfall and Skyline hope 343i know that using CA for map design is clearly a bad move when the overwhelming majority of maps they make are poor.

I also hope steps are made to phase out infinity slayer, Iv seen very little in the way of Positive or even Neutral feedback relating to it from the fans. Its simply not the Halo people want to be playing.

Ranks made Halo 2. Knowing how good you were in comparison to everyone else made you want to get better.

Its why I kept playing Slayer trying to get better until Halo 3 came out.

Its why a lot of people kept playing the older Halo games 4 months after release.

We'll have to wait and see really. All we know is that this TU gives them the ABILITY to make substantial changes to the game as far as weapon balance goes. How it will be used is totally unknown.

So far all we have is confirmation of no descoping and no flag-dropping to be added in the foreseeable future. That's bad news for many people who still play this game.

Descoping on the sniper rifle is really something that needs to be implemented. Badly.

AGL Forging competition. Winner gets their map played an hour later.

I set up a new betting pool for when MerkinMax comes back from his latest retirement.

I usually peak when 343 is annoucning something, SpOps s1pt2, TU etc. Now that it is clear they have no interest in addressing the real issues, I can rest easy. I was on stand by.

oh yeah, and I have been without an xbox for a month now. fuck yo 2 week bet bullshit.

I am close to melting down over this panel. FUUUUUUUUUUUU

Wouldn't be a panel if there wasn't a bad question.

Also I am taking a hiatus from posting this thread. It's a Halo community thread, but it's also one of the most negative places on gaf outside of the NBA thread and it's pretty difficult to have a conversation or even see a meaningful one happen with the troll hobbyists. I will continue to pay attention to criticism and ideas, but it's more and more counterproductive to be in here for the moment. There are a few people in here who would be banned anywhere else on gaf and a few people who I have to even wonder what they're doing in here.

So normally I'd be excited (and I still can be), but I need somebody to confirm these for me:

-Are they fixing precision editing or are they really waiting till Halo 5?
-Are they fixing scope flinch or not?

Happy to hear Forge Island is free, that 343 were able to rangle that with MS is at least an early indicator of some ... trust?

But yes, the panel was not really what I want to hear, but neither did I truly expect it to be.
I hoped though, and continue to.

Glad that Frankie can be honest, even if what I hear is... hurm. Frankie, you [and David] had kind of already stepped back when the tone changed to strongly negative, so seeing this now I suppose is a greater confirmation/committment.

I don't think it's an easy "problem" to fix, but personally it'd be a deep shame if the .. interaction is lost forever.

Perhaps so, but we are creatures of habit.

I agree that descoping is something that would definitely make the gameplay better, but flag-dropping is by no means a game saver. Its nice if they add an option to turn that on/off sure, but it wont bring everyone back by any means. I wont say no to more options, but dont kid yourself, it wont have kids who play COD just quit that game overnight and come back to Halo just cause descoping and flag drops are in.

I am the problem, I wouldn't doubt.

I find it really interesting to look at year old posts and notice how I've polarised from feral Halo defender and massive Microsoft fanboy to what is essentially, the complete opposite. These changes have happened for a reason, but I guess the solutions I've proposed just aren't happening, I should probably just accept that. I don't have to support the brand Next gen, but I might as well contribute to what I'm already apart of now. I'll try and have a more positive role in this thread from this point onwards.

On that note, should we arrange a 16 player game? That might be a good start to bring the community together.

I think this is a big point that a lot of HaloGAF are naive about. After launching a game you will have a finite amount if resource to support that release. Most of your company's resource will now be into the next game.

Some fixes are possible, some are not. Sit and think for a couple of minutes about what would be involved in some if these fixes. New scripts, assets, UI, code, gameplay rules and so on. Then it needs to be tested fully to make sure it works in isolation, it works within the product and it works within the community. It is a big drain on your team.

So the team needs to get as much as it can right first time. With Halo 4 I think a brand new team who picked up from where a group of strangers left off have done very well. They have improved in many areas and matched most of what is left.

There are gaps which is what you guys constantly bitch about, but they are not far away. With the money involved you might argue that there shouldn't be any gaps, but the scale of the task will be fucking huge.

I would judge them after the next game. For me the multiplayer is still Halo, still fun and there is less grieving. The campaign was the best yet in parts and somewhat lacking in parts. Spartan ops started off stuttering and finished dramatically better. I have faith in 343 to improve on a job already done pretty well.

I think some of you guys need to walk away and stop shitting it up for everyone else.

No but there are new pieces in this environment. Apparently UNSC themed.

That is a kind of forge enhancement. Well, given that the pieces are better made and more modular than before. I hope they are.

If the islands are entirely flat, I wonder if they have any pieces in store to add back some organic terrain or geographic features.

On a phone so it takes an age to write so only just quickly seen some responses to first post, but...

Not meaning to troll. It's my honest opinion. I think HaloGAF probably has a much higher than average amount of competitive multiplayer guys of a certain mindset than you might find elsewhere in the halo community.

I'm not trying to offend or piss anyone off, just what I think.

Cool, maybe some hope for this game after all. Hopefully people make cool remakes with Forge Island and 343 gets them into matchmaking fast.

Also give us classic no sprint gametypes.

I'd really like in halo 5 for there to be 3 separate forge hubs. One UNSC/human themed one, one Forerunner themed and one Covenant themed, with their respective pieces. That way it adds variety and makes the maps more appealing to the eye.
