Strike Witches S2 - 07

In this episode, girls were depantsed, butts were slapped, and girls took to the skies going commando. A wonderful, entertaining episode indeed.

Best thing is that the episode is a reference of a real story about Hartmann and
Hitler's hat
.

Chuunibyou 2? The first season was so boring I dropped it after a couple of episodes, so yeah, that's not too interesting sounding...

I meant Milky Holmes Alternate episode 2, I've only seen the first episode and thought NO!.
Ah. Yes, the second episode does somehow manage to be even worse than the first one, and it's not even close. That kind of serious story, in Milky Holmes? What in the world? Sure, they try to put in some humor, but it doesn't work because of everything else.

Right typo, it's meant to be gattai which means combine and is thrown around in this instance to describe the squid bunny combo attack. (and whenever people combine in anime)
I hadn't heard that word before I think, but yeah, it's a pretty amusing combination. :)

As for the cat mouse play line I borrowed it from SDBurton's review from episode 9 or so because it fits the interactions between Haruka and her 'toy'.
Okay. Yeah, poor Hibari is pretty much the prey... until Yagyuu shows up to save her, of course. :)

But surely they would get a lot more customers, right?

Not nearly enough to offset a big price decrease. If you look at the volumes of anime that sell their first volumes at half-price, the sales difference between the first volume and the second aren't enough to make up for the discount.

Yeah, the only way I could ever see the system changing is if the whole industry collapses.

I just can't help but cheer for the one with the slasher smile.

The Light of El Cantare
It's an ok show with a tepid ending. There are better shows from the same studio you could watch.

I have a hard time choosing between the last episode of Chooney and SAO 24 for the worst single episode of anime that aired last year. I have no fucking clue how a second season even works now that the dramazzzzzzzzz are resolved and everyone decided to continue living in their idiot bubbles forever. 12 episodes of narrative-free uguuu LARPing?

Come on Team Anglerfish,
that Pz III G was so obviously a trap! How could you fall for it?! The boss fight was awesome though at least! And Team Bunny finally did something!

Great end to a great series, go watch it if you haven't!

Adding Strike witches name into it is a insult to GuP. GuP put strike witches and uprotte to shame and have shown how to do girls with weapons.
Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer aren't the same kind of show. GuP dedicates large amounts of time to its sports matches, whereas Strike Witches dedicates more of its time to characterization. GuP is an exciting and enjoyable show, but I got into the characters more in Strike Witches.

Unlike apparently most of AnimeGAF, I don't live in Japan so I won't see the last two episodes until tomorrow when Crunchyroll shows them, but I'm not expecting that impression to change.

It's non-stop tank action.
Exactly. The tank matches are great. Really great. But...that's basically all GuP has going for it.

Strike Witches > GuP
I do like GuP; it's my favorite show from fall 2012. But I don't see myself watching it again, whereas I always want to spend more time with the Strike Witches characters.

GuP had bad character designs and Majestic Prince does as well, I see a pattern here.
Haha. Yeah GuP designs are, well I wouldn't go as far as to call them bad but it's certainly a step down from Takamura's adaption of Fumikane's illustrations.
Takamura can even get me to watch that dumb mess of a show that is Vividred.

I understand there's a posibility there might be a legitimately good show somewhere in Strike Witches, but pantlessness being completely normal and the entire cast being adolescent girls is, I think, beyond my comfort line.
SW cast ages span a range from 12 to 20. There's something for everyone!
Well OK there's no actual MILFs but the 18-year-old acts motherly and has a
widow-ish
backstory.

All agree GuP is far better show.
Speak for yourself!

Oi is this Oniisama e?

So much shounen haato in my little girl cartoons.

Helloooooo Tuxedo Mask.
What is it with girls and tacks in shoes?

Not really. We'll see more internal LN adaptations as time goes on, but this doesn't exactly kill future original projects or force them to adapt KEY stuff.

Yamada isn't getting shitcanned until another show bombs harder than this. She directed one of the most successful series of all time.
Dresden protecting his waifu.

Utah's lost chuuni childhood friend who is in love with him appears and becomes Rika's rival. I'm not even joking.

Holy fuck... this show is becoming OreShura. KyoAni really is dead. :(

I would agree, except the problem is that the characterization is focused on broom riding and upskirts and other various moments of sexualization/fetishization.

I would say Saki is the toned down version of what you think Strike Witches is in relation to GooP

Maturity, bitches.
I simply stick up for the underdogs and TeamReal starts accusing me of being stupid. How rude is that? And they wonder why I'm sticking up for the CGers.

#TeamReal? More like #TeamCheeky.

You're not stupid, you're just a coward who refused to take a side!

To be fair, Miho didn't know that they were already at the end of the episode.

!

The SW anime is more like a typical magical girl show with monster of the day plot etc. - just without pants and with WWII references. GuP is maybe the purest old-school underdog-sport show since Taisho Baseball Girls.

Halfway through the night I hear an ear-piercing scream and my sis dashing down the corridor into my room in tears. <...> so I allowed her to sleep in my bed
She does not leave my side, at all, even when I go to the bathroom she waits in the corridor. She doesn't go upstairs to the upstairs bathroom unless I'm waiting in the corridor. Seriously, she checks I'm still around by trying to have conversations with me while she's in the toilet.

Airing this fall on AT-X.

Just wondering...did Strike Witches, when it was broadcasted, bring out the WWII air force amateur historians out in force, just like how GuP episode discussions tend to devolve into "This tank sucks" arguements?

I didn't watch it while it was airing, but there are certainly people who have watched this who have a fair amount of knowledge of the pilots the witches were based on/WWII in general. There was also lots of specula like one of these images for every episode:

Strike Witches isn't bad, but it's nowhere remotely near GuP's level. They are very different though, so they shouldn't be too directly compared, but yeah, GuP is far better, if they must be.

And yes, GuP 12 was awesome and great and I want more of this show. Everyone should buy it so they make a second season.

Those are really just references, though, not things integral to the plot like GuP's tanks are. The difference is that GuP is directly about the tanks, while in Strike Witches, any historical references are just passing mentions or visual things that have no actual bearing on the actual series. Strike Witches really pays no attention to historical accuracy, and just tosses stuff in to interest fans. GuP isn't like that.

I don't know, Saki and Saki Achiga-hen are that as well... though I guess you might call that a little less purely focused on that because of the yuribait/etc. elements? But the mahjong makes up a huge part of the series, and both protagonist teams are very much underdogs, Achiga maybe even more so than Kiyosumi. Saki Achiga-hen is recent and is absolutely in that category of shows.

That reminds me of the Sora no Woto 4chan nerds and their speculah charts. lol

Those are also fun charts, which is why I wish I had started watching airing anime earlier.

Well I can't really argue with that. It did reveal that there are a bunch of history nerds that also have a love for animal ears and butts.

I like to think that, if you look at it the right way, GuP is at least half a mecha anime...while still being a sport anime.

Nah, can't agree with that. Oh Strike Witches has lots of visual service. But that's a separate matter from characterization.
Obviously T&A service is a huge turn-off for many people, so I don't mean to imply people who hate that should force themselves to watch Strike Witches.
Just saying, as someone who isn't turned off by that, I like Strike Witches' characters more than GuP's.

Ah well, the original topic was "girls and military." I agree that Saki is much more similar to GuP than Strike Witches.
