Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

It's still a stupid point. If a woman is uncomfortable with seeing other women dance, they can look away or leave.

This attitude is a huge problem. If you don't want your company (or the gaming industry in general) to be such a sausage fest, perhaps you could try being more inclusive to women.

Men can't look at beautiful woman, because other woman feel insecure?

No, it's not that the women feel insecure, it's that they feel left out. There's this attitude that women don't belong in the gaming industry.

If these women want to get paid to dance/socialise why the hell should I care.

This is not a big deal in the slightest, he didn't force them to do it.

The argument is that it makes other woman feel uncomfortable.

I personally think this is a non issue, that said, I was at an event last month where there were girls in skintight suits, they looked pretty so that was nice, but really had a feeling of "Wow I don't care at all that they are here, they could have been a little more creative and substantive"

Wow at some of the responses here. Are people honestly that offended by this? Never go to Vegas or actually any major city cause this kinda thing goes on everywhere. My god you people act like these girls don't have a mind of their own. Let them make their money, they know what they are doing.

I was shocked and appalled.

Notch says they didnt pay anyone at the party. That is kind of bad, women deserves to get paid just as much as men. Especially the one in the middle with the great t*ts.

I don't understand why people are jumping to "protect" women after these things.

2 1 undeniable fact here:

1) Those women got paid more an hour for their time than the overwhelming majority of the people in this thread will probably ever be paid for an hour of our time ($300/hr is a $12,000/wk 40 hour check) --- edit: ok maybe not, notch said they didn't pay anyone. still, point #2.

2) Those women signed up. Notch didn't run out on the streets and kidnap a bunch of women and throw them on the dance floor. The women signed up. If they thought it was an issue they shouldn't have fucking done it. Beyond that, who the hell are we to decide what is and is not appropriate in the eyes of another person?

So in conclusion, some people in this thread must never venture into a night club, lest they attempt to accuse every woman in the building of being paid to turn up.

(Although on reflection you'll probably find at least one woman that is being paid to work there, as bar staff or selling tickets at the door or maybe even being a bouncer)

They feel left out because of the attitude of treating women as an eyecandy commodity, when many of them are no less a part of the industry than their male co-workers.

So they are insecure?

They themselves are treated fine, but don't accept it that other woman look nice and being paid to look nice.

I would love to get paid for dancing and socializing at at a woman party, instead i have to break my back 10 hours a day.

Should i consider a sex change?

What does it matter which genders a company hires?

Or maybe they don't want to provide a hostile environment for their workers? How old are you?

If they think hiring people to spark/start conversations, hiring people to ask people to dance to get it going etc, an hostile environment, well then it explain a lot of why the world is going down the crapper.

Probably older then most on GAF. 2400bps modems ah the memories.

Misguided and gofreak seem to be arguing two different things because none of that is in the OP or any of his subsequent posts.

Misguided was arguing something crazy, but I agree with what gofreak was saying.

If you're fine with 90% of your employees being men, okay, but a lot of people want to see the gaming industry be more balanced.

Corporation made by 99% of men pay dancing women for entertaining. This is been happening for ages why now it's such a big deal? If you want male dancers at the next parties make sure they notice that, just don't try to make it look like some kind of sexist plot.

It was a fucking party

This wasn't some conference dinner party, where industry folk came to hang out, chat, and eat
If girls started gyrating and dancing on top of those tables yes, then it would've been a problem

This isn't demeaning women in anyway

Party + Hired Girls to make it look like it's a happening thing
You know shit night clubs do every night, yet women go to those clubs for a fun time

What's the deal with all this insecure/left out talk?

You white knights are missing out that we are talking INDUSTRY here, people out to make a immage of themself and earn a buck in the process, this is not good feels church meeting we are talking about, in the INDUSTRY sometime you gotta attend a dumb party and eat a shit cake, how is this news material?

Also this whole argument of "lets make special rules and enforce taboos so women can feel equals to man" always makes me smile.

But obviously not old enough to have ever had one of your employers explain sexual harassment. Even when I was a teenager working in retail we had it clearly explained. It is not *your* place to tell another employee what they should or should not find a hostile or harassing environment.

I *wish* 2400bps was the slowest modem I ever had.

They are left out because beautiful woman are hired for parties.

welp, nice troll, dude.

i dont like this idea of being left out or women dont belong to whatever society or community or industry. because of this thinking i have to rage about that stupid bosses pay "beautiful women" 300bucks/h. i dont even consider them beautiful. at least when iam looking at all those pictures posted here in this thread.

It's not just the gaming industry though, it's pretty much any computer science based job that has trouble with it, and it's not just sexism, but also a complete lack of interest from females. To get more, the industry will have to change how it makes games. That's another topic though for another day though.

This is getting kinda ridiculous. Every major club I've been to has had scantly clad dancers (and horrifying images of a woman staring at you and moving her head on a big screen tv, but that's another topic).

There is a difference between setting an atmosphere and being misogynistic, go-go dancers are not the same thing as girls who look like the just got off shift on the Tilted Kilt. Parties are supposed to be fun and have a easy going atmosphere. It would be a problem at serious business event or formal party but not something that is supposed to have the atmosphere of a club.

Since this thread is such a shitshow for a number of reasons, it's kind of ruined any chance to talk about the IGDA party, where their use of paid scantily-clad female dancers caused a number of members to resign from the organization. Instead, we're talking about a giant party where nobody even knows if anything remotely untoward occurred.

Twitter is the worst.

You go to work drinks.

At the bar, there's six super hot guys with oiled chests.

They come around to your table and slide their tight underpants up to your female coworker.

They flirts and comments and acts charming.

A second later, they give you a blank look as they whisk away.

The girls at work comment about how great his dick looked.

This happens every time there is work drinks.

This happens every time there is a conference.

It's happened at every event in your industry since the beginning.

Men are massively under represented in your industry, 8.5 to 1.5 in fact.

BONUS POINTS : In this universe...

Men earn 81% the amount of women for equal jobs.

Men are raped 780 times more than women.

Men experience sexual harassment 56 times more than women.

Are you getting it yet? Do I need to keep on going? Is it clear?

It's not about offended. It's about safe, and it's about a professional environment.

Everybody needs to wake up to the fact this isn't some Twitter-led feminism flash-in-the-pan. Everywhere that matters in games, sexism is now stinking up the place. People aren't going to back down. It's only going to get more "sensitive", it's only going to be more "uptight", it's only going to be more "hysterical".

So everybody that thinks this sort of thing isn't a big deal - things are going to get really confusing for you from now on.

beacuse is the norm is ok? i dont wanna open any can of worms here, but in the past a lot of "things that were the norm" were atrocious

Notch and the event organizer claim that women were not hired for the party.

Are we seriously condemning a corporation because they hired models for a party? Is this the gaming industry now? A new blog post per day about how outraged somebody is politically?

Things are getting a little too witch hunty over these sorts of issues to actually have a positive impact for change.

It's how a mob mentality works. Now everyone wants to be the "hero" and everyone begins searching for any little thing to make a huge fuss over. The sad thing is as you said it's not going to affect any change and will only make people begin to look like... They are on a witch hunt, or just be super PC. It's a private party, pretty women tend to like to dance at private parties paid or not.

And since it turns out they WEREN'T paid then what do we do now? Just outlaw attractive women from dancing at parties on the off chance someone on twitter may get offended?

The only proof we have is a tweet from Bennett Foddy claiming he overheard that women were paid to be at the party. The only purpose this "controversy" serves at this point in time is to detract from the conversation actually worth having in regard to the IGDA event, and to serve as an excuse for people to pop in and make glib remarks.
