Media Create Sales: Week 12, 2013 (Mar 18 - Mar 24)

Just like you heard Disgaea D2 was expected to be the best selling game in the franchise?

No. One is a rumor, and I think I read somewhere here on NeoGaf, and at the time it made also sense given the history of Miku release. The other one being something I remembered, but everyone can get wrong, in particular when reading tons of figures every week. This happens, right? I already said it was probably a mistake, so I don't see the sense in keeping to reitarate this.

This is the week Wii U will have a rise at hardware and software sales. For its good it better not be as underwhelming rise as some retailer blogs indicate.

I don't see why anyone would drop money on a Wii U + DQ X just for a souped up HD version when people likely would've played it on the Wii anyway...

Can't you get DQ X Wii for free at some places too? I don't expect DQ X to do much for Wii U HW at all.

Well, I'm expecting Game&Wario bombing (and it would be a nice signal to Nintendo), while Dragon Quest X selling on average, so I don't know how much impact they will have on hardware.

One week free trial at Tsutaya. After that you need a proper registration code (3500 yen) and if you don't want to restrict yourself to kids hours there's also sub fees.

There's also an upgrade Wii U download version for Wii DQX owners. That's also 3500 yen and available at SE's e-store only. You only get a mail with codes from there (small base download is done from eShop and big updater download probably from SE servers). Still the e-store was giving me and other people error messages well until 5 p.m. Japanese time (service opened today at 0 a.m.). There seems to be good demand among previous Wii players.

i cant see dq10 doing anything decent at retail but owners of the wii version can get a half price download version
Patience. Need to convince DQ fans that X is worth it for them and not really all that different from what they're used to playing. I see this keep selling like the Wii version and DQXI announcement being still far in the future.

no you cant get it for free on wii, you can apparently borrow it for free for a one week trial or something

Don't think anybody expects anything more than a slight bump for Wii U this week. Needs more than one new release. This is a mindfuck really, how could it get to this..

I'm not quite sure if this is the proper place to ask but I remember the most people were saying that the most people prefer to buy tablet/smartphones as their handheld device than a dedicated handheld like Vita or 3DS. So how many of these tablet/smartphones are being sold that makes people say this? Is there a data that can back this up?

Well, two technically if you count a remake/updated port for a franchise that's widely popular. Both are also getting some damn good advertising.

Two titles that have lessened incentives on their own can be appealing products when combined, which is to say nothing of the rest of the library.

3DS is doing really well in Japan and PSVita has potential. I think people over reacted. Sure, there is competition and smartphone games are pretty good these days, but dedicated devices will always have an advantage over them in terms of controls.

Except from the 2 nintendo games and Monster Hunter every other release has done low to pathetic numbers. Is the (supposedly) starved for new games Wii U owners don't buy anything when exactly are we gonna see a big bump? December? The system has reached the point to compete with Xbox360 for the higher software sales every week and is already behind Vita this year.

Vita also received plenty of games in the past weeks, just saying.

When is Luigi's DLC for NSMBWiiU out?
Atm methinks that's one of Wii U biggest releases we are aware of; incidentally I reckon NSMBWiiU may show some legs as a consequence of it.

What games, other than those three, had a chance at selling anyway? Definitely not ZombiU.

DQX is an old game. Sure, it's a big franchise, but it's not only a port of a Wii game, it's an MMO. G&W ideally should perform okay, and have some legs maybe.

But I at least am not expecting anything significant this week. The system right now needs the bigger, meatier games.

I still don't understand what the hell Nintendo is doing. It has at least 3 games that are ready to be released, just set up some nice bundles, some ads and at least it can increase gamers' attention.

can anyone help with the translation of this! its from Nintendo Dream

37Capture.PNG

They are celebrating the launch of the new Tomodachi Collection by providing a special feature which will help players to understand the game and features better. Basically the same sort of strategy guide article for new big releases. Other than that they will also have news on upcoming titles, as well as some new announcements.

Since this is Nintendo Dream, I don't really expect there to be any exclusive stuff, so whatever they do feature will probably be announced before the magazine is out. The blurb there is the usual "look forward to the next issue" sort of thing which every magazine does, with the focus being on a strategy section for Tomodachi Collection.

Maybe they have decided to let the console die? they acted the same way with virtual boy. They had decided to scrap it in 95 (and without any announcement, they never publicise a failure ) and still showed games that were never released at E3 96.
I found weird the news about the merging of studios in January, obviously it wasn't neither for 3DS or WiiU , far too late for that.
I believe they have decided to move on from this clusterfuck(and earlier than anyone could expect). Would shed a new light on Ubisoft behaviour with Rayman legends too. They are kind of close and might be in the know.

While I have nothing against the game (it looks pretty good), your comment about it being a signal to Nintendo is correct. When they've botched the launch of a console, a mini-game collection is not what owners need. This either should have been a launch title as a showcase of GamePad features and an alternative to Nintendo Land or held back for a year. When you've got Mario Party and Wii U Party on the way you have to worry that Nintendo are once again misunderstanding what we want.

I think the probably is that it is not even a true WarioWare game, because it does not have microgames, but minigames. What made popular WarioWare was its structure with games lasting few seconds, hundreds of them to play one by one. This Game & Wario does not have the same feeling. And also, it has been released at the wrong time, indeed.

I think it's more likely they're trying to pull all the releases close with each other so to start again the marketing campaing, and maybe coupling that with a price-cut, some new bundles, and stuffs.

And for that reason they didn't call it WarioWare. Iwata even pointed out that this wasn't another WW game. The franchise was declining anyway. It still feels like a Wario game and the WW characters are there at least, it's more like a spiritual successor.

I think gameplay wise it's too similar to NL, if more quirky and challenging. It could sell to both bases that way or just feel unnecessary to some customers. It can go either way.

i'm sry Chris but this isn't like you to be so skeptical. I only say that because you normally have more confidence even if Nintendo isn't performing like we think they should. u weren't like this with the 3DS.

He's just reporting the first day ST. It's not like he pushes his personal opinion into it. Not the first time he delivers like this :p

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Wario is already outside the Top 50 amazon and getting bad reviews, Nintendo can't catch a break. Please be patient.

I don't want to shit up the announcement thread, so I'll put this comment here instead.

Sengoku Basara 4 was announced for PS3 for a 2014 release.

I'll eat crow here. This was pretty much my #1 choice for most likely game to be PS3/Wii U cross-platform given the publisher, the target audience, the regional relevance, and the platform history.

Same here, at this point I'm just wondering ....what the eff is Iwata doing or has he been doing the last 2 years. The next 3rd Party Nintendo Direct better deliver. It's like they are waiting for some date to pass, before announcing solid release plans. Pathetic performance so far, with the 3DS at least we knew that Kingdom Hears, Revelations and Metal Gear were coming.

You are not alone on this.I used to put SB4 as a game Wiiu would definitely be getting. And I thought it was a pretty modest prediction too.

Does this supposed Third Party Direct even exist? Any partnerships at this point will probably be announced at E3.

Well, Iwata ended a presentation saying they would talk about third party games at a future date.

There are two ways to read that:

1.) They intend to talk about them at a future Nintendo Direct.
2.) They were just noting they will be announced over time in the future as opposed to at an event dedicated to them.

But all of these underperformed. It can't be easy to convince 3rd parties again when their high profile franchises did so poorly, on a popular platform no less. At least Capcom is sticking with Nintendo.

you can hardly say metal gear underperformed given the way konami shafted it, if anything it sold better than most people expected

I'll admit, I'm shocked. And Capcom seems like one of the more Wii U friendly publishers too.

I think Sengoku Musou 4 is going to be PS3 exclusive now too.

Not for this type of games, actually.Generally the first week won't tell (that) much about the title's course.

Low sales with low sellthrough tell many things for the future of a game. Nintendo Land showed the followers of mini games are limited at Wii U, Game & Wario, Wii Party U will confirm this.

Not exactly the same kind of games but as I said before I expect similar performance from Wii Sports and Wii Fit. The audience just isn't there.

I think out of those only KH3D really underperformed in Japan.

Yeah if Dynasty Warriors 8 and Sengoku Basara 4 aren't showing up, that's not wholly implausible.
I still feel like DW8 might get a later Hyper/Special port. Basara 4 is legitimately surprising though.

Iwata needs to start cutting some checks methinks...

Yeah, but what is the point of putting it on 3DS then in the first place? It doesn't matter that Konami didn't even try, maybe they just don't want to. You can only make so many games out of politeness.
