Whats with the screenshots? They look like they've been stretched up to a higher resolution in photoshop
Were you expecting them to wait until 2-3 months before launch to start?
It's almost assuredly a Q1 game given Square Enix's current fiscal year line-up is barren.
you can see this scene in this screen:
Thief 4 on the PS4 will look really close to the PC version, according to the game producer, Stephane Roy.
... I think with the next-gen, yeah visually speaking, with the high-end PC and next-gen its going to be really, really close, honestly.
Roy did state however that there will be a special feature that will be PC only, they did not specify what that feature will be. Thief launches on PC, PS4, and other next gen consoles in 2014.
Yeah the dynamic shadowing sounds splendid. That's what stood out to me most from the RPS preview.
Huh. Is this game only playable in first person mode? I hope not.
Keep that immersion-killing third person nonsense out of my Thief games!
You do realize that IRL, you don't need to rotate your entire body just to see what's on your left and right side, right? Which is not how FPV in games work. And while you don't exactly have eyes on the back of your head, you usually can tell if someone is behind you. But that is rather hard to do in FPV games without rotating the character 180 degrees. To me that's more immersion-killing than playing in Third person mode. I never see the characters as myself anyway. I see it as those characters that I just happen to control.
The screenshots are weird. Some of them clearly show the character in Third person mode while others seem to be in First person mode.
The PC special feature is not having to use dual analog controls
I want a third person view like Deadly Shadows pls. I just love dat crouching animation with dynamic lighting ala Splinter Cell.
I read the RPS one a few minutes ago and it's hard to really make any kind of judgement in the controlled environment they were demoing it. I will say that making him more agile like Corvo makes me nervous as the whole point of the game is to be slow and stealthy, but right now it's hardly game breaking.
Not a fan of the (apparent)third person blackjacking.

What happened to your tag?
same, I didn't like Deus Ex HR going into third person for cover/takedowns and it sounds like this one will do the same thing
Hopefully theyll release a video of the demo soon. I always wonder what the point of inviting journalists to come watch them play and write about it is when they could just put it up on youtube
They do seem to understand what Thief is about. They're not making the same mistakes as CRystal dynamics either, who spoke of nothing but an emotional story for months.
Hopes are rising.

I felt like they understood what made Deus Ex great too, but then the realities of modern game development kicked in and it didn't matter how much they knew about Deus Ex. It will be the same here most likely.
Well this time it's a next gen title so there can be no excuse for hardware resources in terms of scale and design. I have faith in the studio behind it, even if it's a different team inside, I am sure they follow the same philosophy and management structure.

A lot of it can be summed up in a single scene: Garrett is on a rooftop in the midst of The City, on his way to break into a brothel called The House of Blossoms in pursuit of a nobleman wearing an expensive medallion, and in order to proceed on this path (others are available) he needs to bypass a couple of guards below him. Only problem: they're standing in a brightly lit doorway and one of them is facing outwards. Rather than waiting for them to move on, however, he does something awesome: he uses a rope to lower himself into the shadow behind the guard furthest from the door. What shadow? The dynamic shadow being cast by the lantern the guard is holding up in front of his chest. He then waits for the guards to move inside the door, follows slowly, and slips behind a stack of boxes to one side once they cross the threshold.
This is the kind of stuff that gets me excited for next gen.
HR was a great first attempt come on. If they made a game that's exactly like the original to begin with, it would bomb and the series would be dead. They need to gradually work thier way towards that level of complexity.
If only the modern industry worked like that lol.
