Capcom USA VP Disappointed By Darkstalkers Resurrection Sales

How many fighting games was this title competing with currently for players? I lost track of how many are out right now and how many new ones are coming out on top of those and especially of how many Capcom digital fighters there are.

Slowing down to release this next gen probably should have been a priority rather than cramming it out into this pool. I'd have built it and then held onto it as an exclusive to shove onto the digital markets for next gen consoles to nab the fighting game fans on those when they buy in.

I wonder if the numbers actually back what he's saying.
I seriously can't imagine Darkstalkers in the complete package like 3S:OE for $15 doing worse than JoJo's piss-poor package for $20.

I also wonder how the numbers compare to MvC:Origins since it's the same type of package as well.

Yeah. They really should've at least made Vampire Savior the PS2 port with all of the characters. Not having Donovan, Pyron and Hutzil is silly.

The lack of Donovan in DS3 really pisses me off. It makes me wish they'd used the Chaos Tower ROMs instead.

Jojo had way less availability over the years- dreamcast version was the only game in town, so it'd make some sense that it could sell ok. There have been a million ports of vampire.

Lag/poor netcode aside, what incentive would there be to go to an arcade instead of staying home and playing online?

Community, human interaction, exchanging strats face to face in real time, building relationships, playing in person is more fun, playing better/more seriously because it's your money on the line, less fucking around because it's online and who cares, no lag, no dropping, no rage quitting, playing means something more than just hopping online since you put effort into going somewhere

God, i miss arcades. Nothing beats the atmosphere of an arcade.

Yeah I didn't buy it because it looked like a pisspoor half assed "remix".

It's not a remix. It's two arcade perfect ports with amazing netcode.

Why wouldn't the numbers back him up? Who wants to come out and state they overestimated demand?

It's probably not doing anything amazing, but I'm sure it's getting more than adequate sales. You don't make the top 10 by doing nothing.

I think this is another case of Capcom expecting too much. You can't release an old duo of games of a very technical series, take out a bunch of content, and then expect it to sell like wildfire. They aren't playing all the angles right.

Anyway, as I said before, I still think it's pretty obvious that DS4 is on the horizon. Ono and Niitsuma have to be working on something and all the hallmarks are there. We'll just have to hope that they are a bit smarter in how they handle future releases.

Internet once again fails to put its money where its mouth is.

Sorry Darkstalkers 4, maybe next decade.

Did they just crashed the fighting scene again?

Nah, it was a niche title that was always going to do niche numbers. Capcom folks are waiting for a new SF or Marvel, not a re-release of a game they didn't care about in the first place.

It's more likely that Capcom made a typo when projecting how much they wanted to sell. They wanted 10,000, but what got entered was 234932590820958098508xx.

Eh, I prefer consoles. Less money spent down the line, plus you can always hook up with a friend for some sessions, much like at an arcade.

Thank you FGC. Now Capcom please stop over saturating the market with old fighting games and keep improving the most played like SFIV AE and UMVC.

I met most of my best friends at an arcade. Arcades are the only reason I got in to fighters. Community is important to me for fighting games. I don't want to play the same 4 people at everything that comes out, and online is a poor substitute (getting better, though). I'm glad things like barcades are becoming more popular. meeting new people, new playstyles, new personalities, and new practice partners without worrying about the randomness of online is where it's at for me.

I wish it was just possible to kickstart arcades back into existence.

I'd back you.

To be honest i don't even think a completely new Darkstalkers game would sell all that well. The only reason i want it to happen is because that's the only new fighting game they've really hinted at.

There's all those rumours about a marvel-style capcom vs capcom, that'd be way more fun, i think that's what everyone would actually play.

Capcom doing their best to give a "good" reason for some of their series to rot. At least Dark Stalkers was given a chance, no matter how unlikely. *MEGA bitter*

This would be amazing. I would also love a purely Marvel game.

I wonder if any other factors are coming into play as well. I mean, I am sure the fans bought it, but coming so late into the console life cycle, and at the time of Sony saying PS3 games won't be backwards compatible and rumours of the next Xbox also not running 360 games, makes me wonder if people are giving up on digital stores for the consoles till the next consoles hit and they are buying titles for the next system.

It's a shame that these HD re-doings won't work on the next system. I hope they don't plan on reselling them on new platforms. :/

Fighting genre once again is saturated. It has to go on another decade hiatus before it can rise again. BTW Capcom, why don't you make a goddamn Warzard sequel?

I didn't buy it, because it was too expensive for the amount of time I knew I would spend on it.

Same deal with RE revelations. It is one thing to offer games not many people are excited for, it is another thing to price them realistically.

.....this is the company that used the same sprite for Morrigan from 1994 to 2001 for 13 games.

It's also the company that made VS sprites that still look amazing to this day and have no need of being redrawn, hd-ified, or touched at all. VS' presentation, animation, and little details are unmatched in any other fighter.

Edit: Save maybe skullgirls, I guess. I haven't played it much, but it looks to have pretty amazing animation.

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
Because Warzard is even more niche than Darkstalkers?

warzard isnt niche. its damn near nonexistant. if it wasnt for fighting jam and pocket fighter, no one would have any idea who those characters are.

which is why they should merge the warzard world and the darkstalkers world

Does Warzard even have a vs. mode? I want to play it, but I thought it was a fighting game RPG. How many playable characters does it have?

4. the most sucessful of them is tessa. and for the longest time, i had no idea where the hell she was from

I will buy absolutely every fighting game released on XBLA. I didn't really have any interest in the genre before Street Fighter IV beyond thinking I was really good at Street Fighter II, just like everyone else in the 90s.

I wasn't though.

Fudge...

I'm even part of the problem. I still have fully functional 100% arcade translations on Sega Saturn, and didn't feel the need for this. I'm dying from a sequel.

But he is right - the genre is oversaturated and people are pissed off with multiple reeditions of the same game.

And a lot of those reeditions could have been done as DLC to orginal game.

Aside from UMvC3 (1 year, 6 months ago) and...what, SSF4 (3 years ago)? What are you talking about
