There sure are a lot of people predicting 15 million Wii/360/PS3 systems sold this year.
2007 will be the next 2002, and honestly I think it will break 2002's record.

Ok, im back from the future, here we goes (Sony-fans, uh oh):

NDS: 10 Million
It´s "THE" system

Wii: 7 Million
Wii manages to sell 500k per month, until Mario Galaxy and SSBBrawl enter the game.

X360: 5.5 Million
Good sales, and Halo 3 brings a lot of hype to MS´s machine again.

GBA: 4 Million
Damn you, people, go and buy a NDS!

PS3: 2.5 Million
There is an equal console with better software out for 200$ less.

PSP: 1.5 Million

people are very optimistic for some reason.

I highly doubt that any system (handheld or console) will sell an average of over 300k a month until christmas.

edit:
just checked and the PS2 sold an average of around 350k a month (Jan - OCT) in the best years, I don't think any console will come close to that. Maybe the DS.

I think the market will be split evenly, like so:

PS3: 50%
Wii: 50%
360: 50%

The other 1/3 will go to handhelds.
Can you not add?

If 1/3 of the market went to handhelds the console figures would be..
PS3: 22.2%
Wii: 22.2%
360: 22.2%

You must come from a world with 183.3%

No, I get him. I get how his lame sarcasm derails every thread. You can't open a topic without the first page of replies being corny sarcastic jokes. I expect that the PS2 will be one of the top 3 systems, sales wise. Wii and X360 will do a lot worse than everyone thinks while PS3 manages to meet our extremely low expectations.

A bad year for next-gen gaming.

Seems a tall order. By the end of 2002 the three new consoles were $150, $200, and $200. Even if there are price drops all around this year they'll probably still be something like $200, $200/300, and $400/500.

There is a pattern almost in this thread. 5-6 people listing 360 and Wii ahead of PS3 then one person listing PS3 as #1 by absurd amounts and then it repeats. :lol

1. NDS - 7.5M (Japan level of phenomenon, Pokemon + Zelda)

2. WII - 6M (Soldout, not gonna get much more stock)

3. 360 - 5.75 million (biggest year in it's history, price cut, Halo 3 + GTAIV for cheap)

4. PS3 - 4.5M (tonso games, MGS4, GTAIV = win over price resistance)

5. PS2 - 4.0 million (evergreen)

6. PSP - 2.75 million (decline)

7. GBA - 2.5 million (last good year)

Ike

PissBOX, PeeS2, or Toiletcube
DS 8.5 million (Pokemon is going to make the DS be sold out for a long time)
PSP 3.0 million

Wii 7 million
360 6.5- 8 million (Depends on how much Halo 3 effects hardware sales)
PS3- 5 million (Nothing that will really make people go out and buy this untill MGS4 honestly)

You are living in a dream world, Neo... I mean aloof.

Like Anihawk said, that's about 900k PS3s per month. :lol :lol

PS3 ~ 2.8m

(Price of course. The price is too high for many hardcore gamers who post on gaming message boards so imagine casuals reacting to $500-$600 - not a pretty picture. Hell, let's be realistic here, $300 is too much for most. I also doubt that Sony will lower the price until the holidays if they drop at all this year.)

360 ~ 4.3m

(The best value for strictly gaming with a decent library and a very promising lineup of games. The price is still too high but the budget conscious gamer that wants traditional gaming and the traditional generational boost in graphics, AI, physics, etc, etc. doesn't really have any other choice. It'll be, "Solid if not spectacular" until the holiday boost and/or a price drop. It will still sell enough to keep it well ahead of the next gen pack though.)

Wii ~ 3.8m

(I think it will do really well next couple of months but then, after all the Nintendo die-hards have their Wii's and everyone else's curiosity is satisfied, demand will drop like a rock. It will see another short-term boost for the holidays then drop hard again. The only thing that will change this is if Nintendo manages to create a Pokémon-like phenom for the Wii. And, no, Pokémon will not do it IMO and neither will SSB or SMG - it would have to be something completely new and out of the blue.)

SSBB will really get the kid and teen fans on board.

#1: Ouch
#2: Just looking at the topic after Brawl was revealed back in May, I don't think it'll be just kids and teens.

BTW, I'll play nice now. I love you guys! :)

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
DS - 7.5 million - It has Pokemans to show and Ganondorf's to kill.
PS2 - 5 million - With the system going out strong, price drops from retailers will help this system's sales stay as strong as it's line-up this year.
Wii - 5 million - Nintendo will ship and people will buy, why? Well I'm not sure but that's what has been happening so far.
PS3 - 4 million - Sony will see sales start to slow down with the current price tag but sales will pick up during the holidays with games like MGS4 coming out. Though if Sony does not start to set some firm dates soon I don't see how sales will pick up before then.
360 - 5.5 million - Gamers will continue to buy the system as so much software is coming out for it this year. Halo 3 will also help sales tremendously this holiday, unless Halo 3 is delayed then I don't see this estimate getting any lower.
GBA - 2.5 million - Some people will continue to buy this, not sure why. Probably because it's so cheap now.
PSP - 2.5 million - Hardware sales will not be over 200K monthly until the holiday season. Some months will also be below the usual ~180K.

I don't know. Nintendo have increased pruduction of the DS to 2.5mil per month, thats a whopping 30million, by year end. Now if it keep selling like legalised cocaine, then 10mill per terrotory is possible. I also think the NA are a little behind and the DS hasn't kicked into overdrive like it has in Japan, and Europe. I know Japan bought more the 10 mil last year, so depending on how Nintendo wants to split its stock, it still has to sell 30 million.

DS: 9 mil
360: 4.5 mil
Wii: 4 mil (at current capacity)
PS3: 3 mil
PS2: 3 mil
GBA: 2 mil
PSP: 2.5 mil

The DS sold 8,358,730 units in Japan last year and I think it will get the majority of the systems this year. Although 9 million in the US is possible, but it would be a leap given last year's sales.

The leap would likely come from the first half of this year, as Q1/Q2 was appreciably slow for DS last year (pre-Lite).

The only thing I know for sure, is that the Wii is going to blow away everyones expectations for this year, and Nintendo will sell at capacity for the entire year, around the entire globe.

If they can produce 10million, they will sell 10million.

PS3 will start out slow, from January to about may, and then start to see a pick-up during june/july, and everyone will spell doom for the console. It will pick-up, and start to maintain decent numbers, but far below what the expectations were, and far off from any kind of PS1/PS2 type of numbers.

The 360 will almost mirror its months from a year ago, picking up no real steam untill the holiday season/Halo3 release.

The Wii will pass the 360 by the start of December globaly

I am not making these predictions based on anything but current trends I see in the marketplace. No bias, just the cold hard facts, as I see them

If I'm wrong, i'm wrong, but it doesnt seem likely.

The only thing that could throw everything I just stated into a tailspin, are un-expected price-cuts. If Microsoft does have a signifigant price reduction(50$ or more) we could see a really nice spike during that month, and the following months. The same is also true for Sony if they drop the pirce by at least 100$ I think Sony's problem is far more then price based, as it now seems that people see the 360 as the same as the PS3, iwth a cheaper price, and better games, and the Wii as something different and quirky. Ps3 bieng caught in that rock and a hard place that the Gamecube sat it during its lifespan. The price is just a compounding factor making it a hell of alot worse.

Ign has a prediction:

Summary- Given they all ship a good amount of consoles, they put wii at #1, and ps3 at #2 from big sales outside of America. 360 selling more in Am.

Text: "Sony Overtakes 360 by December 31
Don't get too excited by that headline -- Nintendo's Wii will still end up as the number one next-generation system by year's end (it's too different and too cheap not to). But in the battle of horsepower between Sony and Microsoft, it will be the PlayStation 3 that has the slight edge on Washington's Mega Power.

Don't get me wrong, Microsoft will still maintain its number one position in America -- running on the strong momentum of its head start, Xbox Live, and the release of Halo 3 and Mass Effect. But Sony will bounce back in the States and Canada, and get within a few million units because of aggressive marketing and restructured value, as well as a horde of strong titles of its own (Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, the Naughty Dog game, etc).

Despite being third in the US, however, the Japanese and European markets will bolster Sony's numbers big time. Both territories are high on the PlayStation brand name, and Japan's PS3 installed base already doubles that of the Xbox 360 despite coming out 11 months later. The UK and Australian launches in March will likely be just as dominant, and when combined with sales worldwide will place Sony in a slight global lead just before the apple drops in New York. "
