Three new U.S. Wii U commercials

"Nintendo does things completely different."
Yes, those other guys release games for their systems while Nintendo does the complete opposite.

Awesome. That's the sort of shit Nintendo needs to do. Simple, to the point with comments hitting the right notes about being different to Wii U and something families can do together.

That's what sets Nintendo apart, man. They do things that are completely. Different.

i.e. reek of desperation.

EDIT: dammit grap3fruitman

That's when we will hear something about Iwata, right? We need more news in this industry. After the Always On debacle, things got quiet.

No. We will hear something about Iwata March-April 2014. This FY release is for Iwata to enact his "grand strategy" to get Nintendo back into the realm of profitability.

using images of happy families bonding to sell product - check

avoid showing product because product isn't interesting - check

have everyone appear as if they had just been given a dose of Nitrous Oxide - check

Aside from the fact that the people were kinda ugly by TV standards, this is a set of good commercials that will appeal to parents who feel estranged from their children. People like buying stuff as an easy way of connecting with people they love. And who knows, for some people the hours they spend playing with their kids with the wii u will be worth the $350 even if Nintendoland is the only game on the system meant for this purpose.

Although I might be wrong about that. Is Nintendoland the only game of its kind for the system? i.e. a game focused heavily on 2-4 player local multiplayer that takes advantage of the tablet controller?

I think though, for any family that bought some of those terrible minigame collections on the wii, these ads probably won't work very well.

What I learned from these ads:

** Wii U is for families with children.
** Wii U is apparently an upgrade from Wii.
** Wii U plays games, but the titles are unknown.
** The families were compensated.

Yeah, I still don't have any interest in a Wii U. I don't know enough about it, and I don't have children.

Then again, the fact that we think its so repulsive is probably a good sign seeing as the GAF audience is but a small part of the consumer pool.

They are an improvement on nothing but I hope they didn't bet the whole advertising budget on these. They have some of the top selling games in the world. Use them to market your machine.

This generation is kind of weird so far. Nintendo is doing everything wrong in the home console space and Sony looks to be doing everything right with the PS4. I can understand Nintendo being a bit arrogant from their Wii/DS success, but this is absolutely ridiculous. It's like they lost all of their competence in the course of a couple years.

Not picking on your comment in particular, but there have been a few in this line of thought regarding the underlined.

Is this supposed to be some sort of major issue families are facing or something? :S

I mean, I just can't see a father thinking, "My relationship with my kids sure has stagnated, I better buy them this new game console."

Also, lol, with regard to the bolded.

well to be fair sony has been saying the right things. but let's just wait until when the system launch and then some to see where we are.

By "at the moment" you mean "forever", right?

There are core gamers that like Nintendo games lol

I mean, I just can't see a father thinking, "My relationship with my kids sure has stagnated, I better buy them this new game console."

They might be hinting that single parents could be using it as a bonding tool lol. I don't really see that happening too often but its certainly possible I guess.

Well they kinda don't have anything to show off to the audience atm

And here we are, six months into the Wii U lifespan, and there's nothing to show?

Nearly two years after the Wii U was announced and there's nothing to show?

Reality as it is, it's laughable.

That's not what Ninty meant by the hardcore market, though. They meant having a library like what the GameCube did.

Heck, even the big money grabbing companies like EA and Activision might be jumping ship.

That's crap. Casual Wii games continue to sell quite well. Just Dance and the like continues to be a huge success on the Wii. But that's the typical troll thing hur hur no one plays their Wii

The latest Just Dance sold like what, 4 million copies? There are 95+ million Wii's out there, just about everyone has moved on, barely anyone plays their wii.

Yes because 5 months into launch shows the whole life of the Wii U.

What "whole life"? Even the makers can't figure out how to tell consumers it's a new console and not an upgrade. Your system isn't going to last long when the majority thinks their Wii is a fine substitute and see no need for the Wii U.

What are you talking about? You said Nintendo to have as much of a core game lineup as GameCube and I said "yes because 5 months shows the whole life of Wii U"

And I was being sarcastic.

They should just go all out then, since apparently subtlety is being thrown out the window.

Mom: "Since Jimmy's dad left, it's been hard for us to bond."

Jimmy: "Mom and I didn't really have anything to do with each other."

Mom: "This brand new Wii U. It's really brought us together again."

Jimmy: "I really like this Wii U. Mom and I spend time a lot of time on it. This is so much better than my old Wii."

Mom: "It's great to see Jimmy finally smiling again. Thank you, Nintendo. What an upgrade."

Nintendo: "Actual Wii U owners. Family compensated for participation."

lol.

GameCube was going to have Vice City at one point. EA is being reluctant to port Madden this year to the Wii U. I think that says something.

Maybe Nintendo will wake up and recognize that the Wii U is not the Wii and has to cater to hardcore fans like Gamecube, everyone else already has.

garbage "hey families love it" commercials.
