Spring Anime 2013 |OT -7| My Giant CG Pony Can't Possibly Read This Much Baudelaire

Finished watching what I had presumed to be the first episode of Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East before I found out it that the place where I usually watched anime had them in the wrong order and the one I had actually watched was Episode 3.

:/

Hate it when this happens, especially back when I wanted to catch up to Gintama and the only place I found that had the episodes in the correct order was Crunchyroll.

Shin Sekai Yori is so goddamn weird.

And yet I can't stop watching.

How far have you got with the show? I'm not sure I'd ever class it as weird - this is a medium where shows like Boogiepop Phantom or Super Milk-chan exist, for instance - but I'm very glad you're enjoying it.

You didn't happen to go and see Aku no Kyoten while it was on in Japanese cinemas, did you? It's by the same author, although Aku no Kyoten is a schlocky murder thriller and therefore pretty different from Shin Sekai Yori...

The little bits of SoL are still better than K-ON.

I know you're trolling and all but man I hate how K-ON became the gold standard of SoL. In a perfect world people would compare SoL shows to Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou.

for their time, CG was more than good. Besides, the whole point of those movies was to push ILM and visual effects technology anyway!

That excuse never holds water for a multi-million dollar production in a post Fifth Element world.

Very early Eva 3.33 spoiler

I don't understand this live action bit. Is it important at all?

If you're watching what I think you're watching then you should know that that's a ten minute Ghibli short and not the actual Evangelion movie.

Evangelion 3.33

Well that was unexpected. Still disappointing but in an unexpected way, I guess I just felt it was full of missed opportunities.

The 14 year time skip just wasn't used for any good payoff, almost everything interesting that transpired since the second movie is merely referenced to. It wouldn't be so bad if any of the reveals after keeping the viewer and Shinji in the dark were satisfying but they weren't. For something that was supposed to change things around to keep things interesting for long time fans it spent a lot of time and effort making every character feel the same, even going so far as to invent a curse to explain why no one even looked older.

It all makes me wish this was a movie about what surviving in a post third impact world was like and the exploits of the anti-NERV group that naturally came about. That might have meant a whole Evangelion movie without Shinji, which I'm sure Anno would've been totally against, but that would've been a far more interesting direction compared to what we got.

I guess if nothing else ShinjiXKaworu shippers probably left happy.

Does the anime cover the entire manga? One Outs is not really a traditional sports anime. Its psychological with a genious protagonist outwitting everyone else. Reminds me of Death Note lol.

No, the anime covered 10 out of 20 manga volumes. And yeah, One Outs is more in the vein of gambling manga/anime such as Kaiji, with big stakes and battles of wit, than a standard sports series. The baseball diamond just happens to be the playing field. The manga author went on to write the straight up gambling series Lair Game.

I think, the Anime covered half of that.

I could be wrong though.
confirmed in the above post.

Don't forget the red eye shadow.

I do my best to forget everything in Dragonball after the Cell Saga.

I'll give you my eternal admiration and a cookie.

Kiddy Grade is pretty fun. Its not suffering. thats not to say it is a written masterpiece or anything but it can help rinse out some of the scars you bear.

Hmmm, MAYBE I'll start today. Summer vacation and all.

After SS3 had them grow extremely long hair and for whatever reason lose their eyebrows, I really doubt anyone who worked on this series really cared anymore.

I know I stopped caring when I saw that stuff as a kid, Anything past SSJ2 is wacky.

Am I the only one who liked Eva 3 in spite of its insanity? I mean, most of the criticism I've seen I agreed with, but I still liked it.

Maybe for you, good slice of life leans more towards comedy, while for others good slice of life leans more towards healing anime/iyashikei.

I can't comment on Azumanga, but I'd be less inclined to use Nichijou as the gold standard of slice of life shows, what with the rocket powered robot fists and the two wooden blocks of magical power and the deer wrestling and all that. I'd far rather compare it to something like Gintama.

Nah, I never did catch Aku no Kyoten, though I wanted to.

It's weird in the sense that I feel like I never quite know what's going on or why things are happening. Sometimes it feels like I've skipped entire episodes, because it'll end in one place and start somewhere completely different. Things are sort of starting to come together now, around episode 12-ish.

Definitely enjoying it though, despite some odd stylistic decisions.

But laughter is the best medicine! Plus a lot of Nichijou's themes especially towards the end are about valuing the everyday and all those little moments. But if it must be less comedy centric then YKK and Kamichu are still better choices than K-ON.

I agree that it's much closer to Gintama but sometimes I have to wonder if any of that stuff is really more unrealistic than cute girls exclusively doing cute things. Really, slices of our lives should involve more deer wrestling and talking cats anyway.

stick with it to the end, you won't regret it. It might have odd pacing or direction here and there it might have some awful CG too, but the story is really good.

if it's something you don't understand yet, it will probably be answered later! the story has a lot of mysteries and this very eerie & uneasy feel to it.
you can try asking here too :p

The Devil is a Part-Timer! 3

Alciel helping Maou out with getting all prepared and ready was really enjoyable and entertaining, too bad it all ended up being for Chiho. Still entertaining and fun, though I hope mystery dude is revealed soon.

Yeah, I have been enjoying this one in particular this season. I have feeling the attacker is Chiho's friend from the nether world.

Since Nafe knows even my mother's birthday.

Haha, actually ZachDeKoromaru mentioned it just a few pages before in this post but it seems everyone was too busy freaking out over Evangelion 4.0 spoilers to notice. I also noticed I missed the "De" in my congratulatory post.

I've started my annual K-ON! rewatch since it's my birthday. I don't have any impressions anymore since this is either my fifth or sixth time so here's a Sawa-chan.

Lol, it's not that I think SoL should be one way or the other. I just thought that it was a weird comparison.

I do agree that anyone who enjoyed K-On should give shows like YKK, Kamichu, Azudai, etc. a try to see where their preferences fall though. I personally find K-On really easy to get into because I think it strikes a good middle ground, but I think people who enjoy K-On will find something to like in all of those shows.

Mawaru Penguindrum 14

I am completely ok with this sudden case of :SDBurton, though it was unexpected since when does Paku Romi play women? That reveal was sort of expected, though how did Yuri get Ringo's diary on the motorcycle if she was at the door to the apartment? Am I remembering incorrectly?

I really appreciate the fact that the main character in Red Girl Data doesn't say sorry when things go bad due to her involvement even though she appears timid and an introvert. If it was any anime series, she would have be apologetic about everything which could grating.

I don't know if I really appreciate the mystery surrounding the series though.

Ah I thought it had at least interesting visuals. I wonder we arent getting an s2...the concept was at least compelling :/

I love both openings , but the second has a better visual direction than the first. ( also it matches with the music ). I like this effect

[Giant God Warrior Appears In Tokyo]
Eh, I thought it was neat. Some shots didn't work at all, and I don't think using cardboard cutout humans instead of actual humans was a good idea, but it looked nice for the most part. And let's be honest, miniature God Warriors > CGI Evangelions. If Anno is gonna go 3D then he should at least go all the way. Now to watch this turd of a movie!

P.S. You were right about the dog, 7th. lol

Yuyushiki: 03

Summer time, bathing suits, and tans... All of the makings of a fanservice episode. Except it wasn't, really. All honestly, this seemed the weakest out of the 3 episodes out so far, but it was still funny to me.

Side note, I bought some pocky today. Now my life feels complete.

Why do so many people have to preface their excitement with "I don't like anime, but..." in pretty much every anime-related thread with some kind of mainstream appeal? Are they that ashamed to admit something in the medium could be enjoyable to them?

Are they that ashamed to admit something in the medium could be enjoyable to them?

Bingo.

It's supposed to impressive that someone who "doesn't like anime" as much as them would deign to enjoy anime.

Because being embarrassed to like something is more moe, DUH!

Silly cosmic. Everyone knows that anime is a genre, not a medium!

Yeah, I don't know either.

Afraid to be labelled weeaboo/pedophiles like people that enjoy MLP are afraid they'll be labelled bronies just for watching the show.

I have to admit, I do that a lot. I just don't like admitting because People tend to ask million questions about it and would love to talk about other things

Sadao Maou x Alciel OTP, Chiho is just his younger coworker and thats it.

They're just bros. Sadao basically denies the ship in the show. Chiho and Sadao were basically on a date already. You must at least agree that Chiho > Emi.

Because it's perverted filth that they don't associate themselves with.

gotta maintain that faux-alpha cred so that people still care what you have to say on the truly important subjects like dolphin porn and Five Guys vs. Whataburger.

Hahaha... apparently I'm the only person in the world who enjoyed Eva 3.33.

Don't hate me. =(

Oh I enjoyed it too, for what it was. But it was riddled with flaws, which are fun to complain about.

It's probably because a lot of people don't like anime.
