All 3.33 was good for is that now I'm ecstatic to watch the show again. I haven't seen it from start to finish since, shite, 2003? It's weird because I probably saw it about half a dozen times back then. It was the only thing I had access to.

...Soooooooooooooo am I gonna have to dish out some mad cash for the Platinum releases since GAINAX can't get arsed to do a BD release?
RightStuf still has US sets for about $70.

Regulus Tera

Romanes Eunt Domus
The DVDs? I think there's still some (US copies) floating around in retail channels for reasonable prices even though it's OOP - I picked up a set recently for a sane price, anyway.

I swear there was a brief period where it was reasonably priced. A brief.

Code Geass (Re)Watch: 1-4

It's been years since I've actually watched any piece of this show. The only real feeling about it I've really retained over that time is that I hate Lelouch and really didn't enjoy it the first time around. Given how much I've enjoyed how stupid Valvrave is, I felt like it's time to give the show another shot under the mindset of not trying to take it seriously at all.

For these first few episodes, I'm really surprised with how little of the show I remembered. Aside from
Clovis's assassination
, none of the plot lines were at all familiar to me. I only barely remember any of the side characters. There's clearly a lot of false/selective memory going on with this show for me.

The first 2 episodes are so damn self serious. They take a plot that barely holds together, barely makes sense and play it as straight as possible. It wasn't really entertaining to watch for me. It was just super stupid. I mean, take the presentation of Lelouch's arc here. He goes from what seems to be a typical high school student to anti-government, revolutionary strategist in no time flat. The fact that his best friend just so happens to be an ace pilot on the other side is something that is just dropped in. There's no buildup. It's more trite than the usual mecha fair. Oh, and the whole secret underground group of revolutionaries Lulu happens to run into is hilariously dumb. They're so incompetent that I'm surprised they've managed to operate so long without being arrested/killed. It doesn't feel like all they need is Lelouch's "expert" tactical mind to wage a war. It feels like they need a whole new group.

The third episode is where everything goes off the rails, in sort of the best way possible. Everything with Lelouch in High School is so hyper insanely stupid that it almost feels like a parody of high school scenes in anime. All his classmates are absolutely awful. I hate them all. They manage to lighten the tone a bit it a way the show desperately needs to stay a float, so I appreciate that aspect. The scene between Kallen and Lelouch where they both think they've blown their cover is absolutely hilariously done. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be laughing at the scene, but it's just too ridiculous for me to keep a straight face.

Episode 4 is absolute insanity. It makes so many leaps and jumps, it's clear that no one really cared to make a plot that actually makes sense. There are so many characters just being tossed around it's nearly impossible to keep track. The thing I found the craziest? Lelouch comes up with the Zero persona and costume completely off screen. It just comes out of nowhere. All of a sudden, Zero exists with no clear idea of where he came from. It's kind of indicative of how this show deals with Lulu's plans. They keep them deliberately vague so you don't realized just how stupid they are. It makes Lelouch actually seem kind of smart, instead of the selfish idiot he is. I liked seeing his rescue plan develop through this episode, but taking a step back and examining what the plan was and it all sort of falls apart. That kind of stupidity I'm actually finding fun this time around, though. I'm not as bothered by the nonsense of the plot, I just enjoy how hilariously insane it all is.

My main takeaway from these episodes is how much I hate Lelouch and Suzaku. They're awful in completely opposite ways. Each on their own, I can almost not stand them on screen. I find them both super annoying. Together, though, they are hilarious. When they're in the same scene, they're idiocy plays off each other quite well. The scenes of them together have been the best so far. Whether it's intentional or not, it's comedy gold.

One last thing I had forgotten is how long they dragged out the CC mystery. I remembered her as a major part of the show from the beginning. The first few episodes have barely even introduced her at all. It's kind of crazy.

I really hate ungrateful, sanctimonious hypocrites who blame people for things that aren't their fault. Ledo could have just left them to die but he's a better person than they are.

Other than that, it was a pretty good episode.

And talking of Evangelion: 3.0 spoilers below...

Just realized they completely glossed over everything in the preview in 2.0

One wonders if the rumors about several work scrapped mid-production and the renovation of the script for this film hold some truth after all, that without mentioning the confirmed delay in reworks Shigeto Koyama commented off-the-record (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42651340&postcount=1342).

Can't say I'm a fan. I don't really get the point of Kou Yoshinari's style.
You're not the only one. It's a strange style. It doesn't help that the characters had clunky movements either. He's definitely capable of better, but even then I guess I'm not a huge fan of Kou's style.

Not always subdued enough for many, sure, but it goes well to showcase better more dramatic character scenes, and their insecure or passionate nuances...

Look at you getting people's hopes up when this is just a fake anime from the latest episode of Photo Kano! (Oh Yokoyama.)
Fair game! Putting #yokoyamaisanasshole is enough as a warning to me... :-D

I know that DTL knows this happened hours ago, so why he didn't post about Sentai licensing Oregairu (Romcom SNAFU) is a mystery. Was it too obvious of a pickup for Sentai?

Also just realized that Garden of Words will have a dub ready by early August? Comix Wave really is internationally friendly. If only everyone else was as well...

edit: you know what, this was a dumb post to make.

Nana 6-12

Please tell me this show gets more interesting.

If you're not enjoying the first 12 episodes, I can't see why you would enjoy the rest of the show. NANA puts its best foot forward, and while I think it does get stronger towards the middle of the show, there's probably not much reason for continuing if you don't find the characters and the situations they're in compelling television.

#TeamChiho is the winning team.
Now I know for sure I'm on the true team.

True, it's worth watching those early episodes to satisfy that curiosity but I think the decision to rush through and phone in those early plot points was aimed at old fans anyway. It meant reaching the stuff that was never animated at record speeds and that content is clearly where all the time and money went. I guarantee the show more than redeems itself on this decision later on.

It makes sense to save the budget for the stuff fans haven't seen, but why would any fan want to see this intro content done worse? If they only cared about the fans they could have started it at a point closer to where the stories split.

That would certainly make the most amount of sense to me although, I have to wonder, with how much time they've had to conceive this film series I'm a little bit confused as to why it feels like such a rushed jumble of ideas.

Devil Survivor 2 4
Decent episode. It didn't get boring but the action itself wasn't that interesting to watch.

I haven't played the game but I bet if these chumps used Agidyne or Elec Break they wouldn't have so many damn problems. Amateurs.

Good shot
So much :firehawk. All it was really missing was the sakura though I suppose we got snow instead. That counts for something right?
So it seems I was right eh? And I guess Chihaya Rio will now face her responsibilities.
:SDBurton Oh those 2 shots were also great. On the later I wonder what caused these weird looking stones(?)

It's kind of the weirdest ruse of all time, tho; why did Yokoyama even decide to include a fake-anime and specifically mention that its director is Yuasa? Does Photo Kano's main audience even care about Yuasa? Fuck Yokoyama.

What if that bit was directed by Yuasa?

Makes sense to me; isn't Yokoyama a frequent collaborator of Yuasa? :p

Usually fake-anime just puts the credit at the end of the episode; like Kannagi's magical girl show or IM@S robot movie. Yokoyama felt the need to interrupt the episode to have a fake announcement for a fake magical girl show directed by Yuasa.

Damn ruseman.

Given how much I've enjoyed how stupid Valvrave is, I felt like it's time to give the show another shot under the mindset of not trying to take it seriously at all.

From the sound of things, that apparently consists of providing a way to channel your hatred into cynicism. That's the more aggressive side of non-serious rather than the more enjoyable side I tend to favor, but I guess that follows what I had predicted. Hey, if it works for you...then I guess that's fine! Still, it's also not much of a surprise that I'd have to disagree on most of those counts.

Lelouch himself is serious all the time, but he is also quite theatrical and that sets the tone for the unrealistic and larger-than-life events surrounding him. This can also be said of other characters, to a greater or lesser degree. Not to mention the designs and even the music are all exaggerated and over-the-top. The show builds a stage for the performances rather than trying to create a sense of realism, which I believe provides an effective method to the madness. I imagine that since you hate the protagonist -and the rest of the cast- so much that's not going to do any good though.

And yes, he was used to acting like a typical student, long before running across C.C., but it's not like the show doesn't give you more information about his background soon enough to put his earlier behavior into perspective. Speaking of which...I think you're exaggerating a bit about Suzaku's introduction. He doesn't interact much with Lelouch until later, sure, but there is a flashback with the two of them right at the beginning.

The scene between Kallen and Lelouch where they both think they've blown their cover is absolutely hilariously done. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be laughing at the scene, but it's just too ridiculous for me to keep a straight face.

Considering how the entire sequence begins and ends, I can safely say it is meant to be funny...albeit perhaps not in the scathing manner that you've found it to be.

The thing I found the craziest? Lelouch comes up with the Zero persona and costume completely off screen. It just comes out of nowhere. All of a sudden, Zero exists with no clear idea of where he came from.

Really? The "Zero" persona comes out of applying what he did before to a different situation. I believe there is a throwaway scene where they refer to the costume/mask too.

He was just trying to troll the most serious animation fans, clearly.

I felt like it's time to give the show another shot under the mindset of not trying to take it seriously at all.

I'm surprised people watched it under any other mindset after a few episodes, this show is really the most entertaining train wreck ever made. I'm still disappointed that Guilty Crown couldn't reach the levels CG did, it just wasn't bad in the right ways.

It makes sense to save the budget for the stuff fans haven't seen, but why would any fan want to see this intro content done worse? If they only cared about the fans they could have started it at a point closer to where the stories split.

The problem was that there were a couple key differences you'll see in some of the early episodes that couldn't just be assumed going from the original series. It's a mostly clean split in the stories but not a completely clean one you see, so omission wasn't a viable route.

Ideally yeah I wish these episodes were done better but in retrospect to the series as a whole it wasn't the wrong call to make IMO because of how the pacing benefited with the later plot arcs.

If it makes you feel better, I came into this rewatch hating Code Geass. I'm now enjoying it way more than I thought I would. I just think it's a really stupid show. If you like it on a serious level, more power to you.

It's cool man, I'm not hating on you or anything. Like I've said before...if the show gives you entertainment even in that manner, I'm certainly not going to stop you.

The show is very stupid, but the difference is I see charm and a degree of intention in that stupidity, rather than incompetence or randomness. Well, at least for the majority of season one.

I am starting to think that Chihayafuru might end up being one of my favourite Anime in years...

Bloody hell at the quality of that show. Everything about is perfect! The Art, The Music, The pace, The base storyline, the balance between Karuta and Slice-of Life aspect, The characters, the light hearted comedy.

I felt the same. I'm not sure what it is that makes me feel this way, but its in my top ten anime list. Its so charming and somehow beautiful and memorable. Plus, you know, Kana.

Best part about this episode was
Noel sleeping in the bathroom the entire time
. Dammit, I just rewatched this show a couple months ago and I want to revisit it again!

I feel similar. I think our brains are connected somehow. Possibly through alien means.

I’m not entirely sure how to verbalize my feelings about what I just watched, but it’s just plain phenomenal. Oh and the music. Please tell me I can buy this OST.

I need to have a Gainax marathon.

Watch: Magical shopping Arcade Abenobashi
Avoid like the fucking plague: This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (unless you thought Mahoromatic was the cutest stuff ever, which is the pitfall that led me to watch this fucking garbage show because of Hikari/Akari)

Infinite Stratos 2 PV2. Stuff, harem, crap, blah blah blah.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uipILwmXqgo

I only see Charlotte. My brain has tuned out the rest of it completely. This is thusly a very good video.

Being drunk turns you into a lesbian! It's SDBurton's dream! lol

Actually, what turns you into a lesbian is explained in Stratos 4.
nobody watches Stratos 4 and thats sad.

Aren't we all. Probably the only reason why I'm considering forcing myself through season 1 and the OVA. HNNNNNNGH

Just find Charles clips on youtube. thats literally all you have to see.
Also this song.

This show really needs to get things going. The action has been pretty good but the plot hasn't really gone anywhere. The mystery girl will obviously play a big part in it.
