Nintendo hope to introduce Retro's new Wii U game in 'not so distant future'

So I guess the main options I see in order of likelihood are:

1.) Mario Kart Wii U
2.) DKCR2
3.) New IP
4.) Metroid
5.) Something Else

I would never forgive Nintendo for that.

I really hope its an al new IP. Although I would love to see what Retro could do with say Zelda or Starfox, I am hoping for an all new IP.

What about Zelda? Any chance they are co-producing a game with Nintendo Japan?

I doubt it, but it'd be interesting.

Also I want EAD Tokyo to work on Zelda after what they've done for Super Mario...once they finish Super Mario Universe for Wii U that is.

I can't get over how awesome a Zelda/Sheik starring game could be also.

As a note to people, you don't hire people from Naughty Dog, Vigil, Bioware and the like to work on Mario Kart.

Edit: That includes you too, Nirolak. :p
People seem to have forgotten this. This means there's no chance it's Mario kart... I remember the tweets from the naughty dog artist saying its the best game he's done from an art standpoint.

That doesn't sound like Mario Kart.

I would still expect those people to be working on it as well.

Perhaps the best example in my mind would be Medal of Honor, where DICE made the multiplayer, but still had their own project later on.

To note, I like Retro's games a lot and would rather not see them on Mario Kart. It's just what pops to mind.

Monolith worked on Animal Crossing and Skyward Sword. RED worked on Fire Emblem Awakening. Vanpool worked on Sticker Star. 1-UP Studios (formerly Brownie Brown) worked on 3D Land. Retro worked on Mario Kart 7.

Retro may be helping again on MK8 in some capacity, but I just think it's more about a new way Nintendo is handling development.

I hope it is a new IP with Western-styled influences.

To be quite honest I would not object to a Wii U exclusive FPS were Miyamoto at the helm to make the game that would trump Halo, lol

Dont force them to show something if they are not ready. Give them time. Good things need time.

We gave them a whole extra year, it's time for them to show us their hand. Now, they can take as long as they want to complete it to make sure it's awesome, but even Zelda games we usually see 2 years before they are done.

Myamoto said they were not working on Zelda, however, he's so prone to lying that it almost makes me think they are.

Honestly, as much of a re-tread as it would be for the team, a small part of me would love to see what Retro could do with Metroid in HD.

Metroid Prime 4 would be a perfect fit for the controller..

..but my gut says it'll be be less sci-fi..more fantasy.

Either that or a Starfox FPS.

How come?!
Retro may hopefully reboot the series and set a new standard for Mario kart games, as they did with Metroid prime.

Either way, seeing how Retro have not released anything since DKCR, I have very high expectations for their new game.

On the other hand, maybe Mario kart is too a mainstream series, so they would let it to Retro.

Except with the case of Metroid, there was huge room for evolution as the franchise never made a successful transition into the modern 3D era before Prime. I don't see what big changes you can propose regarding Mario Kart, unless they're deep fundamental ones, which I doubt will happen given the enormous success of the previous entries. Franchises like Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, or basically all the Mario-related games are not the ones in need of 'Retrorrection,' but Metroid and Donkey Kong definitely were.

If Retro is working on Mario Kart WiiU, I think Iwata would have announced that by now. He already confirmed that the next MK will be at E3. There is no reason for them to keep teasing Retro's game if it is MK.

Very good point teasing Retro's game and new Mario kart and then revealing that they are the same thing would seem like trolling.

Not interested in anything that's MP focused by them. I don't need it to be Metroid but something with a lengthy single player portion would be cool.

Edit: and least of all Mario Kart. I already have MK7 and that's enough for another generation.

Really hoping for a new Metroid, even if it would be fun to see them do something else as well. It's just that they're so bloody amazing with Metroid.

My main reasoning would be:

-They worked on Mario Kart 7
-This is unveiling in the not too distant future, and so is Mario Kart 8
-Nintendo has a history of using other studios like this to help finish products, like Monolith helping build out art assets for Zelda, so it's not like Mario Kart 7 is a complete anomaly
-Nintendo already outsourced Smash Bros in an effort to get it out sooner, so putting Retro on Mario Kart 8 frees up Nintendo's resources to better support the 3DS and finish the Wii U titles they're still doing internally in Japan

To note, if they are working on Mario Kart, I don't think it's the *only* thing they're working on, but might be the only thing in the immediate future.

They did the design for the DK Jungle track in MK7 alongside redoing the retro tracks for MK7's gameplay and said it's "Good Practice for what's coming next". So I'd imagine they are working on a racing game at least. It probably just really likely to be Mario Kart as MK Wii shifted a ton of Wii and 3DS consoles and Nintendo will probably be wanting to fire on all cylinders with the new Mario Kart instead of just dumping it on an internal team since it's been a bonafide system seller. Nintendo's second best selling franchise using a proven quality developer instead of whatever Junior developers Iwata rounded up in the Kyoto pastures. That could really turn heads if done right.

If Retro is working on Mario Kart that would be incredibly disappointing. I'm hoping it's something new, but I'm already prepared for disappointment.

Ugh, stop saying its Mario Kart. It makes me depressed.

Besides, I doubt they've been hiring people from Naughty Dog to work on Mario Kart.

I'm expecting Metroid U revealed in a Nintendo Direct just before E3. With Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 being their next game and that may or may not be revealed at this E3.

I guess I'm hoping for Metroid, but not necessarily Prime 4. Let them do something new with it.

Pie in the sky: R&D1 or whatever that team is now is making Metroid, Retro is doing something new.

When did they say that?

Hmmm.... a retro Zelda may actually be the ONE exception I'd make to them not going a brand new IP.

Zelda needs a western reboot.

(edit) A Retro studios made Zelda that is.

I don't see what big changes you can propose regarding Mario Kart, unless they're deep funamental ones, which I doubt will happen given the enormous success of the previous entries.

What Retro could deliver may be a more "hardcore" Mario kartmore along the lines of Diddy Kong racing developed by Rare, faster, with new spectacular tracks and a rock solid framerate.

Franchises like Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, or basically all the Mario-related games are not the ones in need of 'Retrorrection.'

Actually Mario kart in my opinion needs a reboot to make it more appealing to me, as well as Smash bros, but as for the latter we know it's HAL who's working on it, whilst mario 3D is something that has been always put a lot of effort on and I expect one of the Nintendo's top developing team to take care of it.

I think someone already confirmed they were working on an existing IP, or am I wrong?

Anyways, I'm pretty certain they are working on Metroid, but that they are taking it in a more mainstream, Halo-inspired way. Kinda ironic considering how Halo 4 was supposedly inspired somewhat by the Primes :)

Ewww...

I hope is just some fanboyish dream made rumor, it certainly sounds like one, I'm not crazy about them picking Metroid again but if they must, please let it not be at all a Halo-like game, like if the franchise wasn't hurt enough after Other M...

I hope it's a new IP and it makes the Wii U sing like MP did for the GameCube. No matter what it is, it should be great, Retro is money.
