Capcom: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies hitting the West [Digital Only Confirmed]

JUST GIVE IT TO ME

Episodic means released over an extended period of time, so they could still, for example, make the first case free and charge for the rest piecemeal. Didn't Capcom do that for the iOS releases of AA?

I know they did that with Ghost Trick, not sure about AA.

But speaking of iOS AA, we haven't even gotten the HD versions yet. It's release date has jumped around more than Zero III.

It's possible that could be the format for a potential future release of AA5, but it would have made little sense to distribute episodes piecemeal over time for the first release of a new Ace Attorney game. Cases oftentimes don't operate in their own little bubble.

Used to be on the 'No retail, no sale' camp. But Im not bothered this time. There are other games I'd bend over just to get localized but will never even happen with just a digital release. We never got AAI2 and not even sight of Layton x Ace Attorney localization. At this point even, Im happy for the games I want to get localized in one form or another.

I think I'll also avoid reading the whole thread lol

You know...I know people are against this and all, but here's a case where I wish companies could take a kickstarter approach.

For physical copies of AAI2 and this, imagine: Capcom sets up their own kickstarter structure with a funding amount they think is reasonable for a limited print run + translation. We as fans can overpay to make sure it happens. Rather than having no recourse (for AAI2 and possibly PW vs Layton) but to learn Japanese. I know I'd drop $100 easy for either of these games.

i would pledge for this day 1.
if nothing else, it would at least show capcom and everyone else how many people really want AA.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer a physical copy, but there is no way this being digital only will keep from buying this game. This is easily my most wanted game of the forever.

Just signing in to join team mad for the lack of a boxed copy of this. I hate it.

I'll still buy it, and I'll certainly enjoy the game, but I'm not pleased about that decision.

I really want a physical release to sit next to the other five games in the series on my shelf, but I'll live.

The fact that this went retail only speaks volumes about how Capcom views series sales potential in the west, unfortunately.

The only bright side (besides a possible reduction in price) is if this game paves the way for a digital release for AAI2.

I still can't believe how little faith they have in the series though, when it has one of the most dedicated fan bases around. I hate that we always have to beg for them to even pay any attention to it, and that it always comes with so many caveats.

Regarding this DD situation, the people looking down on the opposing viewpoints (no matter which side) like plebes are shameful.

That said, I will not be purchasing this game. I don't mind DD games, but I will not support Nintendo's awful stone age infrastructure. I've saved over $100 on content I would have bought otherwise. Might as well bump that up to $200.

I dont really get the hate or the FFS CAPCOM WHAT YOU DO WITH THIS SERIES IN THE WEST SUCKS BJBAKSDKL

these games dont sell gangbusters and bringing them over is expensive. AAI2 was a fucking bummer but it's not like there's no reasoning behind it.

My issue with AAI2 is the tease behind it. The "ohhhhhhhh if you buy this we MIGHT bring it over ;)" that kinda thing bothers the fuck out of me, not when they actually release something. If there was no active eShop we probably wouldnt be getting this at all. It's not ideal but it's alright. We could unsurprisingly have it a lot worse.

I also expect it to be $35 like Animal Crossing

complaining about Nintendo's incompetence with the lack of account system is totally valid and the main point of argument here, but I find it hard to complaint about Capcom's decision, I mean I kinda get why they'd do it.

I only wish this can actually work towards a digital 3DS release of AAI2 (that shouldnt be that hard right? reduced price?) and Vs Layton

After thinking about it, if this is the best they can do and Sven is telling the truth, I'll say just take it. Honestly guys, support the series. I asked a Capcom rep a year ago to make the next Sengoku Basara digital if they have to, and I know Sengoku Basara fans would be happy to play another game in English. Don't let Ace Attorney die.

Alright, I've been browsing this topic all day but haven't had a chance to post because of work. My thoughts:

-AA5 is coming to the west. no matter the form, we are getting AA5 in english and I, for one, am fucking ready. I jumped into the AA series late but I will say that it is probably in the top 3 of my favorite game series of all time with the original trilogy being my number 1 series of all time.

-It is DD only. I'll admit, I hate this a lot. I love that I have all of my AA boxes together on my shelf and I, for one, love to buy collector's editions/physical media whenever I can and I've definitely blown more money than I should have on getting some shitty CEs, no matter though because I love the tropies, art books, and boxes that decorate my home. I am ok with DD though. I have a large digital library thanks to steam and PS+ and I can deal with DD if it weren't for nintendo's silly model for it but that point has already been beat to death in this topic.

-Sales of this game better spur an AAI2 DD release. I think this is only fair to the fan base of this game. Capcom obviously knows (based on this decision) that DD only purchase is a very minimal investment and I think GAF alone could probably cover most of the costs. Plenty of us salivate at the thought of playing AAI2 because, from everything we have heard, it is leaps and bounds better than AAI. Make it happen capcom, I know that sometimes it seems like you don't care about the fans but you are giving us the fifth main entry in the series which shows that you haven't forgot us, take the exta step with AAI2 and a lot of us will be content with your plan.

-I know this has been discussed too and I believe Capcom gave some type of statement about the cost (My work computer blocks game websites so I can't get to capcom's community section but I believe someone quoted something regarding this earlier), but please think about a limited print run of the game. I think Capcom will be surprised at the sales of a limited run. I think, and maybe I am mistaken, that they are basing a lot of their info on the sales of AAI which is silly to do. You don't base your sales expectations on a spin-off, you base it on a mainline game. I know there is a lot of Apollo love out there and he's a great character but AA4 could also be seen as a spin-off. This is the first time you've had Phoenix back in the driver's seat for a long time and that is going to pull in a lot of people who were cold to the series. Personally, I predict the game will be more a 60/40 split between Phoenix and Apollo but for now that doesn't matter. Marketing is putting Phoenix up front and people are going to see that.

My two cents, I guess. Still day 1 for me no matter what the form. I understand choosing with my waller etc. etc. but I won't pass on Mr. Wright. I think it is important to purchase this game in any form we can because it seems that Capcom is trying to gauge the interest for this series in the west and I know I want him to always be able to come over here. AAI2 not getting here was a huge blow to me and I don't want that again.

I would be 100% on board with this if Nintendo's DD system wasn't a total pile. Now I'm debating whether or not this is the game that finally gets me to use their awful system.

I really really really don't want to reward them for having the worst major DD solution by far, but oh god it's Ace Attorney.

Juggle between shit online service and Ace Attorney.

Ace Attorney stays up in the air every single time.

I think you're giving us too much credit here. Localization (specially in future titles with voiced cutscenes as AA5) can be expensive, and most importantly time consuming. Time that would probably be spent elsewhere (my guess is that this is part of the equation).

Ugggh. :( I'll still get it though.

I wouldn't mind going digital if they were to go on sale more often or weren't full retail price. And also if there was a real account system in place..

No offense to Capcom but they aren't really putting out much that is worth it IMO. I am giving GAF a bit more credit here but realistically, AA is popular enough in the west that a DD release of any game (even a bad one) would be covered cost wise. Time wise, like I said, Capcom doesn't release that great of games anymore and their time can be invested in some of their more thoughtful games.

It was probably the only chance we had anyway. And as Sven said if Capcom said that it wouldn't come to the West we'd have begged for a digital release, as we did for AAI2.

My concerns are more towards the quality of the game itself anyway, and the impossibility to resell it if (when) it sucks.

Phoenix's voice is terrible. He sounds like a teenager.

Ugh the voice actor and digital only release is souring what should be great news.

You shut your mouth with that. There is no such thing as a bad AA game
AAI was good too

and how many of those oversea fans bought Investigations 1?
Me! I'm one of the fans who didn't buy it! I didn't have no interest in a spinoff much less one starring Edgeworth! Its not even an AA game its an AI one! But good on Capcom for leveraging the future of the series in the west on a spinoff and bad on me for not buying something I didn't want!

People said that when I told them Metroid Other M was going to suck baby balls!

:p

Metroid sucks baby balls in general

Oh shit! I said it!

.....But! The fundamental difference is that other M was marketed as something that was going to go out of the norm for that series. AA5 isn't focusing on anything different. The main draw and attention has always been on the "turnabout" of the games and that isn't changing. No reason to think beforehand that it'll be bad.

It amazes me that a tiny company like Gaijinworks/Monkey Paw can afford a physical PSP UMD release but Capcom can't afford a physical 3DS release.

Screw them.

Regarding AAI2, are DSiWare games even being released any more?

It smells off. Does anybody really believe this game wouldn't outsell many of the other western 3DS cartridge releases this year? Even when Capcom underproduces it as they always do with these games I seriously doubt it.

Yes, but considering the modern japanese design and audience and Shu Takumi being missing, I expect more something like AA4 than anything else. Or AA1. Stupid infinite incoherent twists instead of good drama/plot.
I'll like it regardless.

If they price the game a bit lower and maybe get a demo on top of being highlighted in the front store page (the latter I don't doubt one second) it'll probably sell to people unfamiliar with the series, thing a retail release wouldn't have done as much. Which is good.
Of course retail/digital combo would have been the best way to do things and they'll go full price anyway, but I'm sure it's less expensive that way and Cap will get a larger cut.

Maybe they'll consider re-releasing the old ones digitally if it performs well?

Well, Capcom has historically had problems gauging consumer demand for this series in the west (see: limited print sellouts of the first games, weak sales on AAI1), so this is probably leveraging the DD model to resolve that problem.

It could also be indicative of a positive shift in how the eShop operates and that's why Capcom now sees it as a viable alternative.

Or it could be that Capcom gonna Cacpcom.

Any one of those things could be true, at this point.

Even though I love the Ace Attorney series to death I refuse to buy any digital content from Nintendo so I'm sorry Capcom but this is not the way to please your fans, my collection already looks off because of AAI2 not being released in English but now you go and do this while Japan gets a boxed release? GTFO Capcom!
