Xbox One: live TV available in US only at launch, requires separate device

Good fucking god, so all that awesome channel switching was faked?

Dude, they faked Kinect videos and demonstrations at E3 too. Just a couple of years back. It's been their M.O. with new hardware. I don't believe anything that comes out of Microsoft's camp when it comes to demonstrations.

LOL I dont even have cable anymore. Most people are moving away from cable too. This isnt a useful feature for a lot of people.

Uh, my girlfriend's cable box is a piece of shit that takes 2-3 seconds to load ANYTHING.

All that instant fluff means nothing if the cable box sucks, since it has to go through that.

MS GAF , spin this. I can't believe it. Less than 5 hours ago Im hyped and remembering why I loved my 360...and now this. I'm glad I started letting go end of last year and picked up the PS3.

Yes, it'll probably work with most HDMI cable/satellite boxes.
Hmmm... so does that mean if you already have DVR functionality, you'll get it through Xbox One as well?

They never mentioned DVR capabilities for Xbox One -- and if it does not, there is zero chance that I'll ever use it to watch TV.

“Live TV will require a supported receiver device with HDMI output,” which is sold separately.

They spend the ENTIRE press conference promoting Cable box, and its sold separately? LOLLL!! What the fuck, Microsoft.

Reading that, it looks like its NA, not just the US.

Edit:

In a release sent to VG247 this evening confirms that Live TV with Kinect navigation, Live TV with One Guide, Trending, and NFL on Xbox will only be available in North America at launch. The release added that Microsoft anticipates a global roll-out over time.

North America, not just the US.

Oh man, hahahaha. This just keeps getting better and better. How in the hell did the guys at Microsoft think that this would be okay?

Yeah, requiring a cable box was obvious imho but I am also wondering how this works with your cable box DVR.

LOL... this will be popular with cable providers but nobody else. Hell, I live in the US and don't have a cable box (way too expensive to pay for cable when HDTV and good old rabbit ears give me all the normal channels.

PS3/4 with Netflix, rabbit ears, and I am good. No monthly fees for gaming, and the only thing missing is ESPN. Considering the fact I save thousands a year not having cable, not really a sacrifice

Oh, wow, this is self anhinilation. Who is running Xbox division? This is just absurd, they had 8 years to make a new console and they came up with this.

I had an idea it was stagged when the guy said commands to the kinect that worked from a good distance while there was still clapping noise over-laying.

It seems Microsoft want you to watch the digital TV you're already paying for, through a machine you just spent hundreds of dollars on, so they can get more dashboard ad revenue from their subscription-paying userbase.

This is the product Microsoft are selling to us.

I already have a cable box. I have no need to use this instead of my cable box. I mean its nice that its there for those who want it, but I don't need to have dope "social features" when watching Parks and Rec.

Useless. The only way this would be a worthwhile feature is if it replaced the cable box. Since that isn't happening it's of no use to me.
