So the significance of this is that it is a mark in the road towards a US launch. This is right about in time for a launch later this year in the US, based on historical comparisons at least. The PS3 controller first appeared at the FCC in May 2006, ahead of its holiday 2006 launch in the US.

No sign of the PS4 box yet - of course, Sony will be with-holding that until after E3, but I would guess it might appear shortly thereafter in FCC's database.

The confidentiality on photos/user manual etc. expires in November.

One other new note from the filing is the weight: 210g. This is slightly heavier than the DS3's 193g. Uses Bluetooth v2.1+EDR as specified.

The report doesn't give much away about what kind of connection it uses, as far as I can see. The only mention of USB is this:

Not sure if that distinguishes the type being used.

DUMB QUESTION ALERT.

how difficult would it be to get the old DS3 to work with a PS4, Is it a bluetooth issue?

I'm sort of sad to get rid of the four I own, I wouldn't mind doing a cheap mod to keep them.

800 mA battery.

I just checked my Sixaxis (european), and it have a 30 mA battery.
My DualShock 3 (japenese white DS3) have a 300 mA.

Are those numbers correct?

There should be no issue getting them to work, but Sony have apparently decided that they won't. Probably because of the touch and light bar options that won't be available.

It would have been nice to have some spares for Fifa nights but nm.

As for the DS4, the only question remains is what d-pad are they going for, the one they showed already or the vita one.

SIXAXIS DC 3.7V 30mA (UK launch, no rumble)

DUALSHOCK 3 DC 3.7V 300mA (Controller launch)
DUALSHOCK 3 DC 5V 500mA (Included with Slim PS3)
DUALSHOCK 3 DC 5V 500mA (Included with Mini PS3)

MOVE Navigation Controller 5V 500mA (Controller launch)
MOVE Motion Controller 5V 800mA (Controller launch)

DUALSHOCK 4 DC 5V 800mA (As per FCC)

Seems like its the same battery as Move Motion Controller.

Hopefully they will release cheaper secondary controllers without the bells and whistles, the new controller doesn't look cheap.

I know it's been stated that a DS3 is not supported on PS4, but how likely is it that my usb wheel and fight stick will still work next gen.

Sony won't. 3rd parties might if Sony allow it.

But the controller doesn't look that expensive tbh. It's got a couple of LEDs behind light bar, a touch panel, a speaker and a headset jack.

To Sony these things are probably pennies.

Excellent. I was hoping the new design didn't add significantly to the weight- the low weight of the DS3 makes it very comfortable to hold for hours at a time.

What I like about the 360 controller is that it is made from good quality plastic. My 360 controller looks as good as new.

I hope the PS4 pad is similar. PS2/PS3 pad degrades after a few years of usage. It becomes super shiny.

That's really early to appear at FCC isn't it? Maybe we could see a fall release?

For mobile phones:
The minimum number of days between FCC approval and carrier release date is 37 days (1 month and 1 week). The maximum is 96 days (a bit over 3 months).

weight: 210g.

Xbox 360 controller

Weight

Wireless version (with batteries):

265 g / 9.35 oz

Wired version:

300 g / 10.6 oz

I wonder how much the new Xbox controller weighs? I'd bet about the same as the 360 (unless it needs more batteries?

this can't be right, there is just no way the wireless is lighter than the wired version.

Bluetooth v2.1 is a disappointment.

Why does it matter which version of the Bluetooth standard a controller uses? Isn't that pretty much completely irrelevant?

I wonder how Micro hasn't been ruled illegal at this point. It's a flimsy piece of crap, good luck playing wired.

I think the fact that modern mobile phones come with Micro connectors pretty much forces their hand: Staying with Mini would mean reduced flexibility in charging the controller for most people.

Funny, I replaced one of my dead DS3 batteries with one from DealExtreme and it's rated at 1800mAh.

Don't expect batteries from places like DE to be truthful in their stated capacity. ;)

Are you guys sure about the Micro-B connector? In the high-res photos they released, it looks like a Mini-B, the same type used on PS3. I don't want to have to buy new charging cables, dammit.
