MS marketing director: "We are going to kill Sony at E3!"

FF13 wasn't well received (I personally loved both 13 and 13-2) but sold well regardless.

All they have to do is make a solid mainline FF and ppl will buy it up, I have no doubt. Its still a powerful IP and a ton of effort still goes into it.

Whatever has been shown of Versus so far makes it look like a winner, if they could just finish and release the dang thing lol.

I'm so sorry but I love stuff like this. Companies calling each other out. It's like that at the start of the generation. All bets are off. Mud will be thrown. Fight each other to death.

As a multiplatform gamer that also likes following the industry, this stuff is gold!

Exactly. This kind of thing is old-school when the companies talked directly to their much smaller fanbases in the 8-bit/16-bit days, because those people are essential to their survival in creating a core group of gamers.

I fully expect there to be a murder at the show now. Someone will frame Microsoft for Sonys murder after these comments knowing full well that Microsoft will look guilty.

Which part of Sony? Japan? If so I'm still not convinced lol.
Well Japan studio indeed sucked for the most of the generation. Fortunately they send Allan Becker there to fix things and so far he is doing a great job. They're finally making games again and if they get their shit together they will probably release around 4 games this year alone.

Eh, you guys and your strange ideas about exclusivity. Especially when it comes to MS. I don't see people riding Sony about it's recent slew of indie exclusives despite them also appearing on PCs, tablets, phones. Dat Sony arrogance and moneyhatting. Seriously, though, why isolate MS when all of them do it. You're going to see them at MS and Sony's show, so there's no reason to believe one is the gamer's saint and savior while the other is a blight upon humanity.

I try to ask this question and get yelled at. MS does something and it's evil. Sony built the Playstation brand on the same tactics and it's lauded.

Not just Sony, but Ninty and Sega, too. Every one of them. Exclusives are always and will always be the grease that gets the wheels spinning. There's much less reason to care about owning these devices unless there's software that drives you to own it. Multiplats don't do that by themselves.

MS wouldn't say this kind of thing unless they really have big cards under their sleeve.
Looking forward to it.
I expect lots of exclusives to be announced, some of them big franchises.
Then what's MS's excuse for the reveal? We should have been blower away by awesomeness.

I think MS is trying to build the hype train (like they do every year). It works for sheep. ...however.

Here's the problem:
Buying a next gen console is not a knee jerk purchase for the educated gamer. Educated gamers are like a steady river that will always flow ..always consume gaming products that appeal to them regardless of affiliation.
Educated gamers also see through BS; which is why there was/is a collective rebuff of MS's initial Use Game/DRM plans.

MS may be setting themselves up for a (nother) fall.

Artificial hype is highly frowned upon in this establishment!

Surprised actually at 2 things:

1. I love that he said that, competition feels awesome

2. I'm surprised they feel their competing with Sony

Microsoft forgot about gaming years ago and have been coasting on 3rd parties since.. But now they need to sell some boxes, they all of a sudden care about gaming again. And in a couple years when they have enough install base they will forget about gaming again. Not sure why people respect a company that treats their hobby like this. And not only do they respect it, but they go as far as to defend it, a company that taxes them to even own the console with it's con of a service. *shakes head* I just don't get it.

Well first of all, hopefully Playstation never dies. It's been far too good to all of us. But with the cash Microsoft has you really don't know.

I think that may Sony knows this is coming. Perhaps they know Microsoft is about to buy out all these huge 3rd party games and they know they just can't compete with that. It would explain their huge focus on acquiring all the indie games that they can. Maybe they're just thinking they're going to have to ride out the initial wave with their own AAA titles supplemented by those indie games when it comes to 3rd party.

The thing is though, we know Assassins Creed, Battlefield 4, COD, EA Sports are all coming to ps4 already. So the good thing is they're still going to have those main 3rd party series.

So maybe it's Metal Gear or Final Fantasy? I'm not really sure what else it could be lol.

So what did you expect him to say.. oh gee golly I just don't know. We might have some good stuff, stop by if you have time....

It's his job to pimp the brand, are people seriously that dense?

I mean the practice of buying exclusives away from your competitor.

Nintendo, of course had a monopoly on 3rd parties with the NES that was broken up.

It was Sony with the Playstation that really started the practice. If not just buying an exclusive, then buying the studio that produced the game. People forget that Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Wipeout all appeared on the Saturn. The first games anyway.

They continued to do it to the Dreamcast (with an EA assist) to push them out. Ironic that it's rumored that EA is siding with MS this round.

The Playstation brand wouldn't exist without the practice of buying up exclusives/studios. It shouldn't be frowned upon when MS uses the same tactics on Sony that Sony used to build themselves up.

Prove what you are saying. I'll be surprised if MS hasn't funded, developed, and secured more exclusives for X360 than Sony has done for PS3 this whole generation.

I would say they are treating it very well by investing $1 billion into Xbox

Erm, isn't it allowed to frown upon it regardless of who is doing it?

I mean, buying exclusivity is pretty much the worst way a company can spend its money from a gamer's perspective, is it not?

I approve this post.

LOL, what?

MS must be loving all this free publicity. They don't need marketing when they have Sony fanboys talking about them all the time. Plus I expect the same people to go and tell thier friends not to buy X1 which will have the opposite effect as no one likes being told what to do.

You tell me. It seems Sony gets back-slapped when they do it. Sony isn't known as "evil" after they built their brand with the practice. Well, except to Sega fans.

You didn't actually believe all those people that were saying MS is no longer competing with Sony did you?

- Metal Gear is already announced as a PS4/One product
- Sony is co-developing on Final Fantasy products as I type. Plus, considering SE's financial woes, it would be suicide to grant exclusive rights to MS for anything less than 500M. They would make significantly more than that simply by developing, and releasing FF7 on both platforms.
