MS marketing director: "We are going to kill Sony at E3!"

Lets hope that whatever microsoft get exclusive, they keep it exclusive this time. They do have a habit of getting games and later on, them turning up elsewhere.

Mirrors edge 2 will probably be a one year exclusive. EA can't help themselves.

If Sony would have came out and said this, GAF would be all up in arms praising Sony with Kaz gifs...

If Microsoft stopped acting like the Borg all the time it might cut down on the Sony cheering section. As it is, it's understandable why people would be rooting for one and not the other.

Do I have a fan?

You want to argue about something, take it to PM's. This thread isn't about you.

I think people are underestimating how much games we will see.

MSFT throwing words out like this are doing nothing but creating unnecessary bickering. Anyone from MSFT should just keep it formal and not go with "we are going to kill Sony at E3".

During their launch? Oh yeah. I didn't buy a PS3 and bought a 360 instead (I'm assuming by "last gen" you mean this current one). I only got rid of my 360 in favour of PS3 once Kinect came into market. This gen the tables have swapped. Microsoft is full of itself thinking people are going to be shocked and amazed at their shit and they shouldn't be dismissing the competition so easily..

Yes, some of the news is questionable at best, and its unfortunate that they seem to have a similar smugness that Sony had at the PS3 launch. I guess with the success of the Kinect and the 360 doing so remarkably well in the US and UK for the last 3-4 years has boosted their ego. We'll just have to wait for E3 to see if it's warranted.

The Xbox was easier than ps2, and more powerful. It wasn't a noticeable difference. Digital foundry will see it and no one else. People acting like there will generational difference between the two are wrong. Will they look better? Probably. Will anyone besides message board console warriors pointing to checked boxes care? Nope.

You are comparing apples and oranges. When the more powerful original Xbox released, the weaker and harder to program for PS2 already had a substantial foothold on the market. Because of this games were developed for it then ported to the Xbox. This caused Xbox ports to looks the same as the PS2 ports with the exception of exclusives.

In this gen the 360 was weaker and less powerful and didn't have as good a market as the PS2 did in the previous scenario, however because it was easier to port from the 360 to the ps3, this made the 360 the lead platform to develop on and in most cases the quality was the same or even worse on the PS3.

Next gen will be different, the more powerful PS4 is also said to be the easiest to develop on. It will likely be the lead platform to develop on and Xbox getting the ports.this should mean the PS4 will have the best version of a multi plat.

Sony has the number of first party developers behind them and the console reveal reception to support this. They showed multiple exclusive launch window titles and have a lot more studios than MS. MS doesn't have a history of a lot of AAA first party IPs, nor did their console reveal instill confidence in their game library. They're the ones that have to prove something, and boasting like this doesn't do that.

It really only sets them up to fail that much more. By setting the bar high after a poor showing at their reveal, it really puts all eyes on them with a lot of scrutiny behind those glares.

Because both 3rd & first parties realized timed exclusives make more sense. Cheaper for first party, and since games are frontloaded they still get the bump from initial sales and hype, and 3rd parties can make more money off ports down the line.

I wouldn't expect that to change this gen with the stakes even higher.

I think you are underestimating the hardware difference between the consoles. There is seriously no logical reason why the PS4 version won't look and run much better other than the developer deliberately gimps the version to not hurt Xbone's feelings.. Any game that can scrap 30fps on Xbone should be running 60 on PS4 flawlessly.

You clearly don't know how much resources go into frame rate.

Multiplatforms performance will be determined by marketshare and low common denominator. You think anyone playing multiplatform games on ps3 knew the 360 version ran slightly better? There's not gonna be kiosks running both versions side by side and people deciding off of that. If this argument does somehow exist, people will likely buy an Xbox one knowing Xbox games ran better last time. They isn't gonna be a sticker on the box that says "now based on x86! Easier to develop for!" But it doesn't because that's not how people buy games.

I hope a judge grants Sony's request for a restraining order. You can't just threaten violence like that, not in this day. Also, the people at E3 might want to heighten security.

People expecting a big difference in graphics between the two are going to be disappointed. Everything with a decent budget behind it is going to look fucking amazing.

The power difference is there, and it is big enough to be worth mentioning. Initially ppl will be easily wowed but as always that won't be the case a few years into the generation.

Sure some 3rd parties might hold back and develop with the lowest denominator in mind but try and stop Sony 1st parties from taking the PS4 for a ride and blowing everyone's minds.

Arguing. I posted something and this person for some reason responded to me as if I posted about him.

I know the thread isn't about me. But that person seems to think it is. You should be directing the "Take it to PMs" at him.

C'mon, the Sony's arrogance showed in the past is nothing compared to the MS arrogance.

Guys, we are talking about Microsoft !!!

Maybe it wasn't always so "clear", but they always show an arrogance attitude and well, sometime is fine, sometime is pretty annoying.

I love you all, go to buy and play any consoles you want, but please, don't start to defend MS :)

I am pretty confident that the PS4 will have a very good launch line-up if the vita is any indication. However, the quality of the line-up compared to that of the xbone is sybjective. Now if MS just gives us shooters and more FPSes then Sony has a good chance of winning. But man 3rd party exclusives are a cruel way to dominate.

I'm scared of Microsoft's War Chest.

I am surprised at the amounts quoted tbh. Weren't there a few higher ups who really didn't like the idea of continuing with the xbox division, and would have rather focused on windows?

Guess not if they're sanctioning $1bn investment.

I came here to post something similar - though I think Respawn's new game is actually being published by EA. But according to Respawn's own website they say multi-platform for their next game? http://www.respawn.com/games/

That's my mistake. I knew Respawn were with E. That was my point about Activision having a promotion/ DLC deal in place with Sony, whereas, Activision has a timed exclusive with MS. Seems petty, but business is crazy unpredictable at this point.

Alright, both of you PM each other. Done.

How does defending MS equate to wishing they don't have a good lineup? The equation would be wishing Sony didn't have a good lineup.

I'm not the who who wished them not having anything good. I actually laughed at that. And if you're offended by that then that's on you, not me.

TBH if MS has the next Rockstar game as an exclusive or even GTA5, then they got me by the balls. I'd gladly bend over despite online DRM if the Xbone is <$399

I think that's the key. Whoever has secured next gen GTA V (timed exclusive or exclusive content) is going to be in the power position.

I have a funny feeling Sony are going to have gotten it though.

Let's be real, if you read the thread, there are plenty who are basically defending MSFT hand and foot so don't cast too many stones.

It goes both ways.
Definitely.

However, just personally- I pop in time to time to say that perhaps we should have some perspective with regards to MS and I get labelled biased, etc. I just don't understand having an affiliation to a box made by a corporation.

People expecting a big difference in graphics between the two are going to be disappointed. Everything with a decent budget behind it is going to look fucking amazing.

This is what has me the most excited...I am now researching TVs to go with my new consoles. Going to be fun, after last year's lackluster E3, I am super anxious for this. one.

Didn't people say the same thing about Nintendo?

And yep. Money is a big factor, but what people don't realise is you have to sell and strike these deals.

They aren't just a matter of splashing cash. These deals are to do with relationships and courtship as much as just money.

MS demonstrating the infinite power of... deep pockets. I expect third parties to have accepted boatloads of cash for otherwise risky early gen IPs. Frustrating, but that's business I guess.

I really hope MS don't show anything great, otherwise it'll make my console of choice for next gen, a lot harder..

I'm just going off what's been showed off so far, and pretty excited to see what Microsoft have to show by hyping everyone up. I'm just saying that based off what we know so far, I'm not digging the Xbox, but tables can turn once E3 so my proper decision will be post-E3.

I'm not the who who wished them not having anything good. I actually laughed at that. And if you're offended by that then that's on you, not me.

You're not making any sense. You responded to a poster commenting on the "hope MS doesn't have a good lineup" comment with "It goes both ways. People are defending MS"

I asked, how is defending MS equated with wishing them not having a good lineup?

That has nothing to do with me being offended. A proper equation would be people wishing Sony doesn't have a good lineup. So it's not "going both ways" as you stated.

Being honest Microsoft could show me a whole amazing array of games that I want at E3 but the fact they are still persisting with charging for online gaming amongst other things not to mention always on Kinect means I'll stay put with the PS4.

Granted I might be in the minority or whatever but I know people will say I'll go wherever the games are but can you honestly say that you will this time around?

Seriously. Looks like he basically assumes anyone who defends MS wishes death on Sony. SMH...

Now your putting words in my mouth. Don't do that.

I'm reading the thread like you. Why aren't you quoting certain posters who are also defending or showing an MSFT slant? Perhaps that says more about you not me.

I'm trying to be impartial but if you see my words as you have so clearly interpreted in the quote then the issue is how you take things vs how I actually articulate.

I can't draw it any clearer than that so if you hate me for having to explain myself then that's your problem.

I have no problem but when people try to assume or put words in my mouth, I take issue.

to me honestly it comes down to games and what console my friend chooses. If MS really have good games to show then I will be attracted. I bought 360 for Lost Odyssey lol.

Lets speculate on a best case scenario for Microsoft:

Halo 5
Fable
Respawn's Titan exclusive
GTA next gen exclusive
League of Legends console exclusive
Twitch streaming built in

What else?

I'm trying to figure what the hell you meant by "it goes both ways". Do you even know? You are talking nonsense son.... lmao

I wish it was true but MS prints money that they can even afford to buy 20 publishers the size of Take Two.

They have so much money anything is possible.
