Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

I think we will hear about the 3rd game this year but it won't release till next year, I can see this Sonic Lost World releasing this year definitely though.

I have a theory that the 3rd game is a 3DS exclusive.

Makes sense for the following reasons:

First, Sonic Lost World is on Wii U and 3DS. Second, Mario & Sonic Sochi is Wii U only. Third, Dimps is likely behind Sonic Lost World 3DS.

Which leads me to my theory on the 3rd game.

It's likely a 3DS Riders game.

Also consider the two teams behind it (aside from UGA), O-TWO and Xeen. Both teams have worked on 3DS games (O-TWO on 2 eShop games, Xeen on games like Rhythm Thief and Ridge Racer 3D), so they're fit for a 3DS game.

The same two also worked on Sonic Unleashed Wii, which almost confirms a rumor I heard that it used the Zero Gravity engine.

So my thoughts on the schedule:

Fall 2013 - Lost World
Spring 2014 - Sochi Wii U and Riders 3DS.

Teams would be:

Lost World Wii U - Sonic Team (and NST?... and Arzest? XD)
Lost World 3DS - Dimps
Sochi Wii U - Sega Sports R&D (and Racjin?)
Riders 3DS - O-TWO and Xeen

No splitting of resources or canalizing of sales, as no platform would get two games at once.

I think people are worying to much on how fast these are coming out. If these were just normal Sega games they would have been teased and shown off earlier in the year. Since this is a partnership with Nintendo they are likely controlling when they can be shown. Nintendo has also been a fan of keeping games secret until they are near to come out.

Now what is exciting is it looks like the 3rd game may be good enough that Nintendo wanted to save it for E3. Though one of my predictions for the Third game would be they Complete Sonic 4 with completely redone EP1/2 with a EP3 that is the length of both. Is is also reworked so that Tails and Knuckles are playable as well.

Or you know Sonic Adventure 3. That would make people rage hard.

oooo nice guess

what happened to sonic 4 ep 3 when thats coming

Hopefully NEVER, after Episode 1 they should've called it quits, Episode 2 proved they learned nothing.

The fact they had none of the original crew (at least any from Sonic 1 or 2) working on it said a lot. Plus it was done by Dimps while good on paper, it clearly wasn't a proper effort.

If my theories are correct and Yasuhara and Ohshima are back for Lost World, THIS is Sonic 4 in all but pure 2D and name.

Said many times in the thread why I think they're back. :p

I wouldn't put it past a Classic Sonic sidescroller on 3DS, a proper one. Although I'm up for the more left field suggestions such as Sonic vs Mario Kart and whatnot. In the end, I just want the crossover platformer.

If this game is as good as it looks, I'll be fine calling this Sonic 4.

Those other 'Sonic 4' games don't exist to me.

Now even though I have played Sonic all my live (since sonic 1) I have never been obsessive on the games physics. What I heard people saying about Gen 3DS is that the classic sonic physics were the most faithful attempt. If this is true I could see a purely 2D classic style game on 3DS.

Me neither, the console Generations Classic Sonic was fine by me. By "proper" I was referring to one that, in theory, would not be simply a rushed version of a console game. The fact that Gens 3DS came really close gives me hope that, with a proper budget, we can see something special.

Hmmm, that's not a bad guess. Especially considering the cryptic tweet from Sumo Digital. Most assumed it meant Sonic x Mario Kart, but a 3DS Sonic Riders featuring Mario would work as well.

I don't think a 3ds Sonic exclusive make financial sense for Nintendo at this point in time. 3ds has practically no competition and a Sonic game for it would sell anyhow. And it's not like it would pump up the 3ds sales enough to worth it for Nintendo. On the other hand Wii U is the one that needs to offer a better value this year by having as many exclusives as possible and would justify the money paid from Nintendo to compensate for the sales.

I know, there's no reason to believe they are working on this game.

I've said many times that there is.

Yasuhara:
- This is not only X-Treme esc (which BTW was his only 3D Sonic game and he did MANY level concepts for the game), but the overall feel is the most classic like than any 3D Sonic, including Gens.
- The environments remind me of Pac-Man Party and even to an extent Jak & Daxter, all worked on by Yasuhara (he didn't work on the original J&D IIRC though).
- Adding to the first, they're bringing back a number of classic things they even overlooked in Gens, such as animals in badniks, the spin-dash in 3D, etc.
- He joined Nintendo (NST specifically) roughly around April 2012, he might've been in close contact even before that. All he's done so far is Mario & DK 3DS.

Ohshima:
- As one who paid attention to his Artoon days, I saw a number of similarities in previous character designs he did then and the Deadly Six.
- The Big Yellow one is similar to the little creatures he made in AWAY Shuffle Dungeon.
- The Green Lady and to an extent the Pink Tall one resemble characters from Pinobee, which was his first game after he left Sega.
- The Badniks being their original designs again, and as such in 3D for the first time (bucking the overly robotic look of the Colors and Gens designs).
- Super Peel-Out is back, guess which game debuted it and even was the only one to have it? Sonic CD, Ohshima directed it.
- Arzest, Ohshima's newest company, worked with Nintendo twice on key projects (Wii Play Motion with Naka even), and Mii Plaza features (3DS OS stuff people, that's not huge?), only thing they've done otherwise was a mobile game, and character models in Level-5's Time Travelers, so he's close to Nintendo.

I think it stands out at least for having possibly the best Sonic renders. Him "jumping" over the logo seems to emphasize the parkour, I can dig that.

The Deadly Six could have been more subtly placed though. They should have placed them all in the background, kind of like the Scott Pilgrim poster.

... And now I feel it could have been called "Sonic vs. The Lost World".

Yeah but it has that "I just learned how to work with layers in photoshop!" feel to it.

You don't think iOS or Android is competition?

Yeah, the sense of space is off, and composition is bad. The render of Sonic is cool though. His smile isn't that crappy half smile they've been using, that's enough for me to say it's good...

How about a Sonic and Mario world RPG.

Successor to Super Mario RPG. :p

:-/

Dr. Robotnic captures Princess Peach as a bargaining chip for the Gemston which was stolen by Bowser to be an engagement ring to Princess Peach.

Plot thickens. LOL Ok I'm drunk.

Sonic and Mario collide. Sonic must make sure Bowser doesn't get the Gem at all costs. Mario decides it'd be easier to get the gem, as he doesn't want Bowser swaying Princess Peach with such an impressive rock!

I doubt the 3rd Wii U game would be Sonic 4 Ep 3. It wouldn't make any sense for them to suddenly make the last game of the episodic trilogy be exclusive when the rest were multiplat. Doesn't help that Ep 2 skipped Nintendo systems... so that's going to be even more disjointed.

And honestly, after the mess Ep 2 turned out to be, I hope there won't be another... unless they hire a better level designer.

Found something cool at Retro:

So anyway, Sonic Lost World looks pretty fun. But those new bad guys… Their designs are fine generally but they don’t really… feel like a part of Sonic’s cast to me. So I just changed up some of their markings for fun. Just playing around for a bit today.

I really like these tweaks. Subtle, but it helps them fit in better.

I dunno why so many assumed that Mario x Sonic Kart is definitly coming cause of that cryptic Sumo Tweet. If you look at the Sega forums...he says alot of stuff that he fantasizes about (like Sega Racing Megamix one time).

And I doubt that Yasuhara and Oshima are working on this. Why should they? I mean why did they leave Sega at the first place? To not work on Sonic. And if they did, it would just be something minor for sure.

This Sonic is the first in a long time to have me excited in the same way that Sonic sequels have in the Genesis days. It's already done so much right; it puts Sonic back into a more fantasy setting, it has better designed enemies more akin to the old days, and it features a plot that doesn't involve humans in anyway (accept Robotnic, of course). Hopefully the music follows the same nostalgic rich path everything else seems to be. I'll tread lightly, of course, but I have a good feeling about this one.

But do you believe Nintendo wants Mario in a pos franchise like Sonic Riders? Again, Sonic Riders is one of the worst Sonic-subseries, why would Nintendo want Mario in there?

Sonic Riders was a decent game although the learning curve was kinda harsh. I never played the other Riders games so I don't know how good those are.

Riders game on 3DS seems a little....far-fetched in my eyes though. Maybe another 2D Sonic game will be the 3rd game?

More importantly, why would Nintendo pay for exlusivity of a bad game? Making all this fuss about sub-par games is kinda silly.

They could put him in Sonic All-Star Racing, since those have been better than the recent Mario Karts. Imo. Although, that'd be dumb, it would also be dumb if Smash 4 counted as part of that deal, which it probably won't if he returns. Unless Smash 4 was secretly a SEGA vs Nintendo crossover fighter. That would make fanboys rage, and flip their shit though.

Can't see 2 platformers in such a short span, maybe if it was late 2014.
