Game of Thrones: Spoiler reaction to Season 3 - Episode NINE!!!!

I've been re-reading ASOS (for the third time) recently, and it took me a week to prepare myself just to read that Catelyn chapter. I just didn't want to read it again. It completely crushed me the first time I read it years ago.

Seeing it visually just felt bad. I really hope this doesn't turn people off from the show. I've long believed Ned's death was a hook for viewers: it stunned them and really forced people to tune in to see what happens next. I'm not sure the Red Wedding is a similar "hook" but I could be wrong. There's such a stunning finality to it, and a lot of people are quite mad.

I know for a lot of people Ned's death was like the 'ok can't wait to see his children/family get some f**king revenge now' type hook to watching the show.... this is just a huge blow to that payback feeling.

Now we need revenge for the revengers! :|

Ned's death seems so long ago now.

Just watched it, totally fucking stunned.

I wasn't spoiled and spent all today throwing ideas around with a couple of people in work.

We knew that it being episode 9 something big would happen but this...

I thought Joffrey would get it. I was almost sure his wife would make a play for the throne.

Didn't see this coming at all.

wow

Was pretty fun to watch but the book version is better. I really didn't care for robb in the books or catelynn, I think what disturbed me more was how unfair it was to the starks. For those curious about the differences in the book up to this point that may or may not be integral to the story;

Robb's wife wasn't from volantis, she was from a house under the rule of the lannisters, and she may also be prego. However she wasn't killed (she didn't attend the wedding) and may or may not have aborted the baby.

The line of succession is now Jon Snow, Robb left this in his will, because they believed Bran & Rickon were dead and Sansa & Arya were captured.

Best thing about this episode, and this season, is that it's really going to shut up all the plebes who kept saying stuff like, "GoT is just trashy fun," or "It's not even remotely on the same level as Breaking Bad/The Wire/insert highly reviewed show."

Game of Thrones Season 4 is going to hit The Wire Season 4 heights.

Book reader here, feel like a dick by smiling the widest smile I ever had when my friends watched it. I didn't say anything, but I can't help grinning.

Another tragic turn of events in Game of Throat Slitting.

Shocker.

I found the whole turn of events instantly campy.

Looks like a good SNL skit.

Dammit Fuck this thread. I saw it pop up this morning and instantly thought well then looks like something crazy happened on this episode. Once i got near the end of the episode i saw it coming. The extra amount of time they spent showing how happy they were together and naming the son ned it was just like well looks like they're going to get killed here. I mean what else could it have been at that point? Much prefer to go into an episode not expecting anything and to be surprised/blown away. It was still a great episode but come on!
This, fuck these types of threads. I get the whole "it's episode 9 something always happens" but this is only season 3, it's hardly a set rule at this point. This type of thread kills any sort of surprise and makes you see and notice things you never would had you not been expecting something huge to happen.

I have a friend that claims GoT is a 'poor mans Spartacus' -- and is actually being serious.

Spartacus actually has better developed characters than the GoT TV adaptation. It's also focused, doesn't meander, and the characters have proper, identifiable arcs. The action is also, obviously, way better than GoT. I still wouldn't call it a poor man's Spartacus because they're so different. But putting down Spartacus is pointless. That was a show that started poorly but somehow became awesome after a few episodes.

Now...thinking that this show is EVER going to be like The Wire...hahaha. The team in charge of GoT have not even remotely shown they have the talent to be on that level.

still can't get over the multiple stabs to her gut. one would have done it but multiple stabs? that's fucked up.

maan i wonder what the guy who did the stabbing was thinking when he got the order. and while doing it.

Yeah, this was brutal to watch. I think when Robb was crawling over to her you could actually see the baby move? Either that or she was breathing (even though she looked pretty dead at that point)

JUST watched it. My hairs were standing on end and I think my wife and I said the word "shit!" more times than you'd find actual shit in a latrine... or something, my mind is still scrambled.

Funny thing is I was helping my father-in-law this morning, who watches the show live, and I asked him if they played just one episode or the final two as I remember reading that somewhere that they would. He said "I don't know, I just saw the one and went to bed... but I do know they killed off all the main characters.... did you see it yet?" Me: "No, not yet." "Oh... I won't say anything else." Haha It's all good, though. That and peaking into the no book spoilers thread and seeing "Oona ;______________;" at the top of the page made the tension so much thicker.

THIS SHOW!

LOL okay gotta admit these reactions have been spectacular and more surprising than that ending.

GRRM is masterful.

Lmao my favorite from the No Book Thread:

Ned ain't dead baby.

bwahahahhahahhahahhahhaha

Got to agree with this one sadly. A friend texted me "something crazy happens on GoT" like an hour before I watched it and that kind of killed it for me. This and the foreshadowing really gave it away. That stomach shanking really did me in though. My Oona. :(

The best post from the non-book thread was easily the dude who compared the ending to an unmarked TDKR spoiler and claimed it was ok because it had been out a year.

Haha. This shit has been out for 13.

Like I said in my post above, it made me feel a bit more anxious... which I loved. To me, this show is best on a second watch when you know where the pieces fall because the foreshadowing is all there and the nuggets you missed the first go around bring a whole new perspective to the viewing. I just rewatched a part in episode 7 to refresh my wife's memory that the Bolton guy is the one that set Jaime on his way. Sitting there watching it again, and hearing Jaime say "Please tell Robb I am sorry I am unable to make his wedding. Tell him the Lannisters send their regards." I didn't remember that after these past few weeks but it was ominous as hell knowing what happens later. Sorry you don't feel this way.

Oh no, damn you HBO for adapting plot from a decade-old book.

Actually more than anything that the HBO show adopted from the book, he seems to be pissed at the unplanned abortion of Ned Jr. and murder of Talisa, which was not in the book. Not that this makes it any less hilarious: I'm so tired of these wishy-washy fucks whining about brutality in a show which thematically is made for it. Watch some other show I say if you're too much of a scared puss to sit through this one. I hear the Hallmark Channel has some good shows, is what I would tell the mediaite guy.

I'm kinda distressed by what happened. Roose is such a prick. I hope he gets his. Can you really trust a motherfucker with an upside down bloody body on a cross as their family coat of arms?

Shit, it makes my family's crest with 3 tiny birds on a diagonal stripe look down right bitch-made. The stork holding a Halberd on top is kinda tough, i guess.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Jon is not really Ned's son. Ned was straight up Christ compared to the rest of these assholes. If medieval England sucked half as bad as it does in GoT, I don't wanna even think about the odds of me being here right now. Astronomical. lol

These people want Tolkienesque fantasy with clearly demarcated good and evil characters and no acts of true depravity.

Which is completely fine, of course, but Game of Thrones probably isn't the show for them. They should have learned that lesson in the first season.

Just watched it. Fuck you GRR Martin, fuck you :( I'm seriously hoping that either Jon, Arya, or Bran somehow manage to reign fiery vengeance on all of these double-crossing assholes. Or that Daenerys just kills everyone.

I'm pissed off and depressed by what happened, but I'm also very curious to see where things go from here.

.....well one of the damn heroes better win out in the end.

I don't give a fuck how groundbreaking it is if too many more of my favorite characters die.

Heroes? It's more a fantasy version of Rome or something. There are no heroes, just protagonists. Robb was useless, what more could they do with him? His war was over, he was doomed, and we know he would never bow before Tywin. We still have Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Dany, and Bran, they are the main characters and unlikely to die.
