I'm not really sure what your point is you seem to agree but disagree. Haha we're getting off topic though so it's whatever really. My point was just addressing those that found the situation hard to believe.

Okay I just caught your second part. Sure. I didn't realize that was what you were getting at.

Yeah sorry. I'm in one of those moods. The prospect of 8 years of a weak reference console isn't helping.

100m copies of an os in 6 months is bad ? I'm sure Apple would love to sell that amount of macs in 6 months.

Anyway you act like sony hasn't had its fair share of mishaps which is basicly the majority of their products in the last decade.
I'm not acting like anything. You said "It's not like Ms screws things up" I'm just saying they do.

I wonder how much this would effect the performance.

Well at least there should be very little worry of red ringing or the equivalent with this box.

it seems odd to me that they would be demoing the system at a store in 5 days if the system had heating problems.

I'd like to thank OP for putting all of the posts in OP and updating it for people coming into the thread late.

(I actually want to make love to all thread makers who actually update their OPs).

extra source of jiggaflops
But not the amount of RAM. He said it was still going to be 4 gigs not 8
That doesn't make sense. One is linked to the other, due to the density and availability of the chips that run at that speed.
(Not that you couldn't downgrade withe speed without upgrading the quantity, it just goes against all the other rumors.)

They're not, they're demoing the controller and kinect with their kits like they've been doing for the press. Unfortunately I won't be able to mess with the controller :( I seriously think the mini tumblers in the triggers is amazing.

Zune, Surface, Windows Vista/8

To be fair...that's your opinion. They've screwed up software a fair bit more than hardware.

Zune was great - in every way - hardware especially. The Zune HD was amazing.

The Surfaces are great tablets and good hardware (better quality product than all other Windows and Chromebook OEMs by far) - whether you like the OS or not.

8 is their most stable and fastest OS ever - even if you hate Metro. I'm not a huge Windows fan, but it is definitely not a f**k up.

Vista and RROD are really their only true failings as a company - in 30 years. Their hardware has always been super solid apart from that RROD blip.

Sony fans rejoicing in this are doing so at their own peril. A less powerful Xbox One potentially means less powerful PS4 games for developers who start on the lowest common denominator and port up.

Not if most of the gamers buy the PS4 because it's 2X the GPU power, more than likely the PS4 & PC ports will just take advantage of the higher specs.

Sony seems to have gotten lucky on the ram front.

Yep. They made a gamble with GDDR5 knowing at the time that 4GB was the current limit and that they were hoping the technology would advance enough in time for them to be able to fit 8GB in the machine. The gamble paid off and put them at a huge advantage on the memory front.

(Cough... IE Browser and Netscape... Cough)

Can someone translate this into something I can understand, IF the rumors were to be true..?

Thanks.

The special embedded RAM MS needed to make the DDR3 ram set-up work is running too hot, need to lower it's speed to cool it down affecting overall performance of the GPU, which could theoretically put the PS4 GPU at 100% faster in comparison instead of 50%.

and I'm old enough to remember That sony is 1 for 3 in terms of decently built systems.

The psone had horrible problems with its cd drive. The ps2 followed that up with its horrible dvd drive.

And judging by some of the forums out there the ps3 didn't fair all that much better than the xbox .

Hah, thanks. I'm headin to bed so hopefully things won't explode by tomorrow morning.

Oh, I am, which is why I went so far as to throw myself to the wolves. I'm a good sport about these things. If what I was told is inaccurate, I'll accept the consequences. Simple as that.

I'm not skeptical about whether or not that site is right or not. I feel pretty strongly that they are wrong. I'm skeptical about some random site just, out of nowhere, conveniently reporting this right around the same time that it's being mentioned in a GAF thread. I mean, that doesn't make anybody else suspicious as to whether that site really heard something, or whether they're just parroting what they saw on GAF, as other sites have been known to do sometimes inaccurately?

Maybe the site just saw the GAF reply then report it like someone told them

I won't argue that they weren't good products, but MS either misjudged their target market or didn't advertise them properly.

Xbone is much weaker and more expensive than anticipated.

If true.

If its true the XBone is like two PS3 ducktaped together plus a lot of RAM and the power of the cloud.

The special embedded RAM MS needed to make the DDR3 ram set-up work is running too hot, need to lower it's speed to cool it down affecting overall performance of the GPU, which could theoretically put the PS4 GPU at 100% faster in comparison instead of 50%.

Perfect, thanks for the responses, appreciate it.

So, depending on how you look at it, the PS4's GPU had a 33% or 50% performance advantage over Xbone's. If this rumor is true, how would those numbers change?

You can say that about the zune perhaps and to a point vista (still it sold hundreds of millions of copies) but 8 is selling great and the surfaces are both selling better than the other windows 8 tablets which are a growing market.

Sony fans rejoicing in this are doing so at their own peril. A less powerful Xbox One potentially means less powerful PS4 games for developers who start on the lowest common denominator and port up.

Up-ports would still benefit from potentially higher resolution, additional post-processing effects, more/better AA, and a higher average framerate. If anything, starting with a dramatically emasculated Xbone as base platform and up-porting to PS4 will guarantee that this gen won't be locked at 30 fps like the last one, at least on the PS4.

Delay the system. The 360 will still probably top the charts with a price drop.

IMO not worth gimping your system for 8 years because you weren't ready.

Can someone translate this into something I can understand, IF the rumors were to be true..?

If the GPU is downclocked so it hits 800-900 GFLOPS, it makes the 1800 GFLOPS GPU of the PS4 twice as powerful. That is an enormous increase over the Xbone. And as as they're based on the exact same architecture, the difference would literally be double.

Put another way, the Xbone would be less than half way between the ~300 GFLOPS of PS3/360/WiiU, and the 1800 GFLOPS of the PS4. Closer to last gen than next gen.

So, depending on how you look at it, the PS4's GPU had a 33% or 50% performance advantage over Xbone's. If this rumor is true, how would those numbers change?

Before:
PS4 has 50% advantage, and Xbone has 33% disadvantage

Right now:
PS4 has 100% advantage, and Xbone has 50% disadvantage

Incorrect sir. I figure since the architecture is so similar, most 3rd party games will be ported from PC. Sony yields the biggest advantage because of that.

That doesn't make any sense.
