Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

It doesn't look good. Hope it means nothing but it just doesn't look good to be avoiding talking about your product at an event about showcasing your product.

Seems this.

If that's a porn star in your av, please PM the name if you can.

Shouldn't the company try to officially answer as many questions as possible to avoid what happened after the X1 reveal?

Pretty decent strategy actually, one on one interviews with journalist will lead to confusion, they will not bring up inconsistent shit said to the other ones because they dont share notes or do research of any kind unless they have a twitter meting 4 days after the fact, they can work their magic on the lesser kind liek Kuchera and Polygon that will help spread the word. They wont even question about the cancelation of this event and even defend it as we can already see.

This isn't true at all. Roundtable interviews are uncomfortable and nobody wants to make them even more uncomfortable. Nobody really wants to do them in the first place. It is much easier to get real answers (and press non-answers) during a one-on-one interview.

I'm sure it isn't your intention, but this really feels like a MS representative's spin on the matter.

I don't actually think this is related to the yield problems and possible downclocking. I can't see how journalists would find about it until then, and then have the gall to ask about it.

? It depends on a situation, also depends on who are the one interviewing. I disagree that roundtable make interviewer uncomfortable , only the interviewees. Any ideas of who are the interviewers or have that not been decided yet?

This does not bode well for MS.

I'm guessing it could be because they don't want to answer questions about:
Used games
How often the console has to console needs to connect to the internet
Kinect being creepy
Faked demo footage
Rumors of downclocking
Rumors of being 6 months behind schedule
Power of the infinite cloud BS
PS4 possibly being twice as powerful as Xbone

But this could be something innocent like canceling to reschedule a few hours later or something. After all, they're gonna kill sony at e3 lol

Easier to dodge a bullet when only one gun is firing at a time.

(By the sounds of this maybe it doesn't matter.)

It's actually not. You'll get better answers from someone if you interview them one-on-one rather than en masse. More questions will now be asked, and multiple variations of the same question. If their message is still disjointed, we'll find out better through one-on-ones than through a group interview.

Their answers would be based on early code, they will answer everything in the next months, i know everything will be fixed by them.

Sorry, a little off-topic:

and this is the next minute when he is called with a foul...

That would be the MS response to more bad press...[/QUOTE]

It'd be more effective if you put a photo of Hibbert jumping "vertically" as his body was contorted and his arms were flailing a good three feet in front of his body.

I sincerly hope that this is Microsoft's acknowledgement of how bad Xbone's reception is. I'm not even asking for changes. I just want to know, that they know. That their reveal was a complete bomb. I am saying this as a gamer who spent this gen mostly on 360.

Man, this whole "wait for the other guy to blink first" is getting really annoying. You just know MS did this so they could tailor their PR message according to feedback from Sony's conference. This shows their considerable lack of confidence.

Interesting. I wonder what prompted the cancellation?

Prob trying to figure out their PR answers.

get a unified message out.

You can accomplish that by sending a single email to all employees who will be communicating/interacting with the press.

If it takes weeks to craft a single email, then perhaps they need to rethink their communication(s) strategy.

You serious?

Don't get me wrong: if Microsoft is really canceling roundtable interviews, that should set off red flags all over the place. But I'm telling you, as a journalist, one-on-one interviews are always better for me (and therefore for my readers) than roundtables. The best answers come from conversations, not uncomfortable Q&A sessions where nobody wants to ask good questions in front of their competition.

Information control... I'm not surprised.
MS wants to dictate the PR narrative, after they completely botched their reveal.

It's not exactly transparent or honest, but I somehow wonder if people really expect those qualities from PR events.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
We still have one-on-one appointments scheduled AFAIK.

It's probably a smart move on their part.. an open forum approach with the outward hostility by some these days just isn't proactive to healthy discussion.

As long as they do the behind-closed-doors then it's fine. It'd be a better place to ask questions and get answers anyhow.

Honestly, how many times do media round-tables really get good solid information in any forum? You just can't have the question-follow-up-follow-up scenario in that kind of forum, and a few bad seeds can taint the mood of the room.

Well.. he posted this after, but yeah.. he confirms what I was saying. Round tables are bad for actually getting info.

Hi buuuuuuuuuuuuudy. Where are you from? (Is it Redmond?) (Or maybe India?)

So now it's not, "Wait till E3 before you draw conclusions" it's "wait a few months," then it will be "wait till launch," then it will be "wait till they fix it."

This send a message - and not a good one. E3 is arguably the biggest stage available in the year to explain/show off/hype your products. Dodging out of the post media PR sessions this close to the show raises a red flag imo, and shows their hand slightly. To me, this meas that there IS DRM based authentication and no used games on the console. They know that this is something that everyone will want to ask and the answers that will be provided will seriously hurt the product.

The XBone reveal was terrible, so E3 is now all about the games - but the product and services themselves, which haven't been answered yet, are still a thing that people want to know about. What better time to set the record straight then E3?

Not only that but it appears that the OS itself isn't ready and that the Snap for Kinect isn't in a working state tells me (again, my opinion) that they are not only in catch up mode this gen but the product itself isn't ready.

I really think that Sony caught Redmond totally off guard with the PS4 reveal in February, regardless if the XBone has been in development since 2010.

I thought it was because the journalists would be too busy playing the XBoxone that was under their chairs at the E3 conference.

... then jschreier ruined that thought with reality.

Original xbox need a replacement cord because the old one could have cause a fire, and the xbox 360 RROD(4 times).

Fuck them. I'm done.

I feel like they decided that putting out a "public" message, then having a private message was too much to manage. Instead they opted to focus on private messages (one-on-one) and hopefully have rehersed the answers to all the questions they messed up last time.

Of course they likely will just say what they always have "policys have not been finalized". I expected them to be ready the first time after all the bad News/PR. Surprised when everyone came out with different messages. Some were obviously glossing over the truth, whereas Harrison seemed to tell it like it is.

Actually, it's quite the opposite. What journalist wants to ask questions in front of a group of competitors? Everyone wants one-on-ones.

Do you think they will have enough time to have a one-on-one session with every gaming journalist at their event?

The European press was about to destroy MS in a roundtable. This is why they are going one on one to control the damage and the message, while trying to sway opinion. Easier to do in a one on one setting than getting lit up question after question.
