I will always love the bits with Anime Tenchou and their awesome staff.

or Boy Skirts?
(Of course Japan would create an English pun that doesn't really work when you sound it out.)

With the copious use of stills and some lengthy stock animation, this felt like a low-effort episode production-wise. But it was oh so satisfying to see everyone ganging up on Red and Midori finally, finally showing up his brother at the end. Justice has been served.

Ah yes, old NA dvds + Studio DEEN. Match made in heaven.

Totally forgot about the awesome eyectaches. It's a really simple idea: pencil character art transitions to an inked version. It's damn cool though.

Also totally forgot how dumb this first episode it. I think it's intentionally misleading as it gets rather serious for a while later iirc. Otherwise a whole lot of setup mainly meant to introduce the cast, I guess.

Its more than that because he lost his ex so it stands to reason that he would still have feelings for her which complicates the whole marriage thing even more than say if he simply broke up with her.

I had a hard time paying attention after the butt sex jokes started rolling. I was especially appreciative that last episode's egregious "close that hole or someone will stick his tool in there!" joke set them all up.

At the very least, I'd like to think fans and non-fans of SAO like Klein. Personally, the dude's my second favorite character and I think he's a G. Dat Hiroaki Hirata.

He seems like a likeable guy. Cares about his friends, doesn't intrude overmuch on Kirito's person, drops the subject of imouto's fairly quick. He seems okay. Kirito sort of bugs me, but it isn't unusual for anime and JRPGs to make the main a snot so they can build him up later, so I'm not too put off yet.

Next episode is better. Then it turns terrible.

When should I watch the special episodes?

Possibly a bad storyboard?

Probably not. Most storyboards are too rough to nail down exact character proportions. That would be up to the layout artist and/or the key animator assigned to the cut.

But the animator on this particular cut might not be the problem; if the character always has that elongated neck, then it's a problem with the anime character design.

I can't believe that took 18 minutes to accomplish. That said, Dot Pixis is one hell of a guy. Definitely my favorite of the commanders so far. Also, I have to say I find Mikasa's loyalty admirable, even if she is almost to Lord Jeremiah levels at times.

Potato Girl remains best girl.

Little moments like the above are why I've always liked this, bad as it may be. Yukimura has this wonderful screen presence and interacts well with his ninjas. His laid back nature is great. Without him, I'd say the show would be irredeemable though.

Series spoiler stuff:
Never really picked up that Kyo lost control to Kyoshiro only after Yuya mentioned her revenge quest. dat foreshadowing.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I guess I was thinking of layouts, but I'm pretty sure key animators are usually the ones that do those, right?

This reminds me! Nerawareta Gakuen came out on disc this week! The film is just as beautiful as I remember it being in the cinema - unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the plot is still just as much of a mess at the end, but I still think everything else in the film is so good that I'm still willing to let that slide.

I mean, look at this shot, only about 90 seconds into the film:

I can't get over how much I love the colour choices Ryosuke Nakamura made for this film and, as excessive as it may be, his tendency to oversaturate everything with light and motion.
He also used the same Director of Photography and Art Director that he's worked with on previous projects. They sure know how to make attractive anime!

Chihayafuru S2 22

Another episode that delivers some good rivalry and that got Shinobu
to notice that there are Chihayas in the world that will still want to play with her even if she goes all out.
Chihaya's actions were reckless and stupid to boot, but damn if it wasn't cool watching it.
She was only able to attack one card, but it was worth it.

Now to wait for the next episode to see Taichi's result.

I'm surprised that they were able to sustain that level of animation for the entire episode, and it looks like episode ten will continue the fight. Lots of good cuts, lots of good effects, this shit is like manna.

One thing about manga as opposed to anime is that distortion of time is much less noticeable. It's something you have to account for when adapting it to a set-time format like anime, but in this case they actually exacerbated it by stretching out the chapters for no real reason. I'm going to blame this one on Kobayashi and Araki.

It's not really so much that the neck is elongated so much as it is the head appears to be frozen in position/angle while the body seems to move to accentuate the boob and butt bounce as much as possible

Slayers NEXT 17

Remember how Bokini was a kingdom of just women? Well here we have Femiel, which is also a kingdom of women. And of course this means that Gourry, Xellos, and Zelgadis all have to dress up. While Xellos takes this in stride
because he's a Monster with warped morals and views of the world anyway
and Gourry complains knowing full well he has to do this again, Zelgadis, who was once a menacing, mysterious demon swordsman is hit hardest by having to disguise himself as a girl. Anyway they search the town because again Xellos claims that the Clair Bible could be there and well, let's be honest, all he has to do is say "CLAIR BIBLE" and Lina will drag the gang through like, anything.

Anyway, the episode has a very comical ending when
the young princess turns out to be a prince, and the entire kingdom of women populate exclusively by men who have been posing as women the entire time.

And all of this goes back to Osamu Tezuka. He's the one who developed non-chronological flow that accomodated periods of heightened emotion and made comics into more than a simple storyboard.

Of course, then you have to deal with going back to a medium like anime that uses chronological time, like you mention there.

What a crappy episode. ZERO action. ZERO

At least Pixis is a cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything.

Sword Art Online 1

I'm starting this, and before I do, let me clear something up, because some people have said some vaguely mean things recently and I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea: I'm going to give this show a perfectly fair chance. I gave Code Geass that after the first episode, and enjoyed it, even R2's absurd bullshit. I gave Gundam 00 that chance and was sorely disappointed. AGE I had heard rumors going in, but I tried to give it another chance every arc. I can't promise I'll be fair, because I'm a stupid, opinionated, and boorish person and I have my likes and dislikes. That said, I'm going into this show almost completely blind, and we'll see how it turns out.

That said, the episode list says there are 5 "specials" episodes. When are these to be watched?

Maybe its just because I need to pee right now, but I can't help but think "What if they need to go to the bathroom?" and also, Kirito's design really captures that "I just started an RPG" look by being as, uhm, bland? as possible. I'm assuming he'll get a new costume soon. "We're trapped in a virtual reality, I may well starve, no one is coming for me and DID YOU SAY YOU HAVE A SISTER?" Hahahahaha.

If the situation is really as bad as the red wizard here is saying, couldn't governments just deploy EMPs to knock out the power and/or the internal battery? I feel like the inability to escape this situation is being somewhat overplayed. Hahahahaha, I'm glad they didn't skip over the whole guys pretending to be girls online thing.

Hahaha, the main bad guy's evil purpose was to
rule over a world of MMO players? What, did he get killed too many times in a PVP or something?

Wait, why would EXP and gold be limited in an MMO? That sounds like a bad game design. Sudden yaoi pandering is a bit wtf, but okay.

Well that was an okay start. I wasn't a big fan of the "Stuck in a game" thing any of the other times I saw it as a kid, but hey, Klein seems okay.

I went into Sword Art Online and enjoyed it. A lot of people are really outspoken about it here, worst anime ever etc. but honestly it's not *that* bad. It has some really really stupid moments though. Actually a lot of stupid moments.

The entire second half of the season is a stupid moment.

Also sorta a spoiler
you won't learn anything about the creator of the game or his motivations. He just. Does it. and that's it.

There's only the 25 episodes in the season. The five extra episodes might be the "Sword Art Offline" segments which are just stylized talk show stuff about what happened and the bare minimum exposition of the world. You won't really learn anything by watching them.

Lol, so true.

Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam 35

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! HAYATO!!! I actually liked you!! Oh, well. At least now you don't have to know that the reason Katz died was because he was an absolute moron who should never have been allowed near a mobile suit ever.

Also, seeing Kamille like this makes me sad. Kamille deserved better. LOL at Amuro just up and VANISHING the moment Haman announces a Colony Drop, though. Geez, Amuro, if I thought Char was a walking corpse in Zeta, what does that make you?

Also, this is what, the 4th Colony drop in UC timeline? There's the one at the beginning of MSG, one during Stardust Memory, one on the moon mentioned in Zeta and now this. YEESH. Maybe these colony things ain't such a good idea?

I thought it was something along the lines of
"people these days aren't really 'living' so I wanted to create a world where they could truly 'live' and feel free." The dude definitely had a real reason, he just forgot or something.

Also, Cersei and Jaime Lannister.

Well yeah. It's just in the anime Kirito goes up to him and is like
so why u do dis

response: eh I forgot

although, he does mention that as a kid he imagined a castle floating in the sky -- maybe he saw the Miyazaki film lol. I think it's kinda obvious the reason he did do it though was just to create a new world different from the real world -- where people would adapt to live in it the same as they would in the real world thus making it legitimate. or something. Obviously there wasn't much point in keeping everyone locked in a death game, because people sure took shit seriously in Alfheim :I

I feel like shouting SNIPER SHOT at the top of your lungs defeats the point of sniping. It's almost as bad as saying the name of your former lover during sex[/spoiler] while piloting a giant robot.

The Rapeman 01-02 END

Finally an anime about a moral superhero! I really like this scene
that he has to break the other window to chase him when he just broke through that window.
The Rapeman is a noble man after all. :salute
Rapeman's skill exceeds that of a normal man.

Yeah this is pretty much among the most sexist things I have seen. At least it's not SAO though.

To quote the Anime Encyclopaedia:

Shotoku and his nephew Keisuke are vigilante rapists. With a company of "Righting Wrongs through Penetration," they will don black hockey masks and rape females who have somehow offended their clients by dumping them. After teaching their victims a "good lesson," they donate the money they earn to Keisuke's former home at the Sunflower Orphanage".

Legitimately worse than SAO!
