Eli is Liquid Snake. 100% its Liquid Snake. “In the middle east we don’t hunt foxes, we hunt jackels”. Kids wearing Jackel teeth necklace. Plus that tag line about cursing his fate. Sounds like Liquid.

Clear as day.

I'm guessing Ground Zeroes consists of Snake infiltrating the Cypher Base to rescue Chico and Paz, everything gets done fucked up as Mother Base is destroyed while he's gone, he gets back to evacuate everyone, gets his arm blown off somehow, and goes into a coma.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Im still not convinced from the trailer that Kiefer is Snake as you never hear Sutherland's voice with Snake on screen/lips moving

Best game of the show so far.
GODDAMN at those torture scenes, from the extended trailer, too.
Finally Big Boss becoming the bad guy of old.

And the game looks insanely good on all fronts.

Still listening to the podcast...

"Code Talker reminded me of BEEEP.
-Good call, actually: it is BEEEP.
-Oh, really?!"

Also, something about how Kojima will probably need he services of Quiet's actress again in the future? In a sequel, perhaps? Sniper Wolf retcon incoming?

From what I recall with his interview with Geoff at GDC Kojima said Ground Zero+Phantom Pain make up MGS:V.
So the way the just released the trailers which include scenes from both and how the term MGS Ground Zeros has not been used since prior to GDC. I think MGS:V will be 1 Disc for PS4/PS3/Xbone and at least 2 Discs for 360.
Also, the official site makes no mention of a "Ground Zeroes", as far as I can see. Even that one trailer is just labelled "MG25th Trailer".
Personally, I'm hoping they'll keep things simple and merge the two, indeed.

Perhaps the whole Hospital ordeal takes place between the rescue mission and the revenge torture stuff?
I would think so.
Ground Zeroes (Chico and Paz are rescued, Mother Base is attacked by Skull Face) -> hospital scene (Punished Snake is helped by "Ishmael" and then Ocelot) -> Kaz's rescue -> etc.

I wonder how Miller gets arm and foot back. If I remember correctly, his body had always been in tact in MG2 and at the time of his death prior to the Shadow Moses incident. Or am I missing something here?
Considering he pretty much was a talking head, that's not much of a problem, in my opinion.
Plus, prosthetics.

Wow Kojima wasn't kidding when he said he was touching on taboos. Looks incredible, and makes for a nice change from glorified shooting war games like cod and battlefield that portray war in a fun way. MGS5 shows the real ugly brutality of war.

Dead

well not really...yet
The opening intro is amazing, that music is something else.

As far as the game goes, its like Kojima looked at chapter 1 of MGS4 and decided to make an entire game based on that, except even more open. Amazing.

Ocelot come across like Liquid Snake's Alfred (in MGS1), so maybe we'll see the start of that relationship there. Maybe we'll get an understanding (MGS4 Spoilers)
of how Ocelot knows Liquid so well he can impersonate him
, and some allusions to (MGS2 Spoilers)
Ocelot having his arm cut off, and using Liquid's; "Seems like you two are a perfect blood match"
.

Also, Elijah seems to fit Liquid Snake.

This trailer was awesome!

The graphic content made me a bit queasy but it's nice to see the game broach some controversial subjects.

Me too, gotta say the trailer gave me a weird uncomfortable feeling.

Never had that for any other videogame.

Jesus, that was amazing. Kojima has done it again, can't wait to play this! That first part was really graphic, Kojima wasn't lying when he said he was going there this time huh?

i'm fine with somebody else voicing big boss. but if solid snake makes an appearance in here (he shouldn't but if they do some corny flashforward for fanservice) it has to be david hayter. it MUST

great trailer. almost made me forget the stink that was mgs4. i'm kind of worried about kojima tackling on the subject of child soldiers. i don't think he can handle it

Yeah, this sounds about right.

Now for my own crazy theory: In Ground Zeroes you play as Big Boss, voiced by Hayter. I think all the English footage that has been shown so far has been from the Phantom Pain, so we haven't seen Sutherland voice Snake in Ground Zeroes.

In Phantom Pain, Snake will be voiced by Sutherland. Either because of Big Boss's voice being changed due to the trauma and coma or extra special tinfoil hat theory: because you are playing as a clone brainwashed into thinking he is Big Boss. This would explain why Big Boss isn't seen with a horn and prosthetic arm later in the timeline.

Imagine the reactions after all this Hayter-gate stuff if you start up the game to hear Hayter's Snake after all. And then when the voice actor changes midway through the game, that should be the clue that something strange is going on.

Sounds like something Kojima would pull :)

Pretty sure that line was a reference to his time in Iraq with the British SAS (and his subsequent capture and brainwashing, if that's canon).

Yeah, ehm, i think it will retain its cheesyness big time, which i think it's not entirely a bad thing.

i am shocked they released that shitty x-ray poster of big boss instead of using shinkawas art to promote the game.

im still hoping they release some of his art as promos for the game...

looks just as amazing as when I seen it the first time. Kiefer killing it as snake. Game looks stupidly fun with many ways to complete a mission. Cant wait to play it on ps4.

I don't think he can "handle it" in a serious way either, but it's not the first taboo he faces, since MGS has always been about war, you had genocide and other shit all throughout the series, i think this time it'll just be more graphical and crude, and that's what he was worried about.

You don't think having different voice actors would pretty much ruin that one twist right away?
(ans it looks like Ôtsuka will voice Snake both before and after coma, in Japan)

Is this a launch game for the PS4?

They're a bit quiet on dates atm.

I hope it will be able to accurately depict the horrors of war while at the same time keeping the series's trademark cheesiness.

I really hope gaming as a medium can move on from glorifying war and violence and that this game will be a step in that direction.

Well they could disguise it as being because of the trauma/coma at first. If they do a good enough job of it they would be able to throw some people off.

Has Phantom pain footage with Ôtsuka been shown?

Edit: But I did say it's a crazy theory :) Would be fun to see it play out though.
MGS2 is my favourite Metal Gear so I love that kind of mindfucky stuff

I said it in the other thread but , I mentioned it was interesting how Kaz's injured almost opposite to snake? like snakes right eye, kaz's left, snakes left arm, kaz's right, maybe I'm just looking too much into it, cause I guess Kaz is also missing part of his left leg? What an amazing trailer! I can't wait for this game!!!

Mirrored injuries eh?

FOX Vs XOF!

i dunno if my interest in MGS or gaming in general has just cooled at this point but that was probably the least interesting MGS trailer ever

nothing on the MGS2 3 or 4 trailers

gameplay looks cool but the actual trailer just didnt have that magic imo

that song is cheesy as fuck
If that doesn't impress you, you're a hard man to please and must have been disappointed by everything from the show this year.
That song was cheezy? You must have HATED snake eaters them then, that was pure cheese all the way through(though I loved it).

The MGS universe is confusing to me. I never finished 4, but was so lost. And how many Snakes are there supposed to be?

You know I was kinda dissapointed in this trailer. IT'S NOT BAD. But I was wanting another one like we got with the reveal.
Regardless still top game of show

Perhaps

(Potential story context synopsis)
Big Boss is sent out to rescue Chico, and Paz. He gets to Camp Omega, infiltrates the base, gets to Chico. Chico reveals that he gave Skull Face details about Mother Base (earning the cassette player, playing the traitor) , and Big Boss loses his shit, and begins to choke him. Boss recognizes that decorated war hero's don't CQC children to death, and relents. He rescues Chico and further infiltrates, rescuing Paz. Boss brings her and Chico back to Mother Base, where Paz begins to convulse. They try to operate and find the 'Peace' package, which is followed by an attack on Mother Base by Skull Face. Mother Base's occupants are killed, and Mother Base falls into the ocean. Kaz and Big Boss escape in a helicopter, with Big Boss distraught at the carnage. Perhaps the helicopter is shot down, but events occur that leave Big Boss in a coma. He wakes up after 9 years, and 'Ishmael' (a projection of his mind) leads him outside of the complex. Ocelot helps Big Boss escape when he crashes an ambulance, and after a period of time takes him to Afghanistan where Kaz is held captive. Kaz has, perhaps, been interrogated for the entirety of those 9 years, loosing limbs in the process. Big Boss rescues Kaz, and along with Ocelot they exact revenge of Cipher.

You could argue that making war fun to play is in a way glorifying it.
But i guess that's a more complicated question.
