Size Mattters (XB1 vs PS4)

I have to say, out of all of those, the PS3 fat is the best one. It looks like it cost what I paid for it.

Should we be concerned that it's maybe too small? My launch PS3 sounds like a jet engine when the fans get going. Could this have heat issues?

I'm going to guess that the PS4 is based largely on what they learned from the PS3 slim models. I'm also going to guess that Sony's engineers probably did a better job with heat dispersal than Microsoft did with the 360.

the fact that the PS4 has internal power supply really does put it over the top, in this respect.

Yup, the size definitely mattters.

Sony's hardware design & architecture skill is astounding. Can't believe the One is another oversized beast like the original Xbox. Crazy.

MS must be terrified of the whole RROD fiasco and wanted to make absolutely sure something like that wouldn't happen again. Whereas Sony engineers are actually confident in their ability to make reliable hardware.

Something seems really wrong, lol... The article took a twitter pic from a random user. No credentials whatsoever.

It really looks way too small.

It's good that the PS4 is small, but it looks like a cheap toy. You need some accent chrome / aluminum type metal to it say "premium" product. Guess, that's where Sony saved some cost. The X1 looks better, and since it's almost same size as PS3 / X360 launch version, it can go in the same place in my current setup.

I'm pretty certain the Xbox One will run more silent than the PS4. Unless there is some real craft engineering in place, it means the Xbox One will house a bigger fan.

Edit: Also, is that size comparison accurate? It doesn't seem like it is at all based on the specs I just looked up.

Technically how is this possible? If the xbone and ps4 have similar power how can the ps4 be this much smaller? Also, should the ps4 be louder or quieter because of the size? I guess it depends on what size fans are in there. The back looks like it's all exhaust so I'm hoping it is quieter than the slim ps3 which still whirs up a bit even just to watch netflix.

I did not know the PS4 was so tiny compared to the rest. The Xbox looks huge! If its bigger then my PS3 then I'd really need to make room for it.

At first I thought the PS4 design looked weird, but now that I see that its small I think Sony Outdid themselves.

lol, okay.

They (PS3 and 360) both had design flaws that led to hardware failure.

The PS4 is smaller, but I'm pretty sure that picture is way off.

I thought it was too, but I checked, and it's not.

The thing that throws you off is the "break" in the PS4 case... the disc slot does not fit entirely on the smaller side of that break, it continues past the break to the other side with the USB ports, in the gap between slabs. Seems that they are using the case break as a visual cue for where to insert the disc; you'd put it with the disc centered on that line separating the two sections.

Yeah, it's likely to be loud as fuck. The "high" mode on the original PS3 sounded like a vacuum cleaner, so that's not too surprising.

I have a first generation PS3 that still works.

No one's saying you don't, but disc drive issues and the YLOD are still things that exist. They're not as severe or widespread as the RROD, obviously, but they're still hardware issues that can be traced back to the console's design on some level.

Take a drink every time someone asks "technically how is this possible???" without reading the posts before them. ;)

I'm still not sure where I'm going to put all these systems... I am running on barely any space at this point...

I think one of these is going to have to sit on the floor... and I'm not exactly pumped about that.
