Yep, they're justifying all the bells and whistles of sharing video clips and gaikai by sticking multiplayer behind a paywall.
My worry in all this is that PS+'s offerings like free games and discounts will be gimped due to the fact that so many more people will have it compared to now. Can they really keep giving out so many free games and great discounts when a large majority of PS4 owners will have Plus?
Thats actually pretty good news, why havent they said that on press conference?
And what about other, non Sony F2P games? Will it be universal?
This will also depend on the judgement by the publishers, and there will be some free to play titles that youll be able to play without needing a PS Plus subscription,

So hopefully you won't need PS Plus membership for FFXIV.
While direct competition in real time wont be possible [without PS Plus] for instance in the case of DriveClub, asynchronous online gameplay and receiving data from other players will still be free of charge.
I asked Yosp for you on Twitter, hope he replies.
You dont need to log in to the ps store to buy ps+. you can get it from a lot of retailers, plus amazon etc
yeah but that cant be the official way of being able to play online, create accounts to other countries and then use the one in your country
you cant access the store to enter vouchers if your country isn't supported........
you need to login on the store to activate the ps+ code...
we will see how sony handles this
I think it is why it isn't coming on any Xbox. Sony use free online and allow without pass on PS4 whereas MS might not allow it.So hopefully you won't need PS Plus membership for FFXIV.
There was a thread about it yesterday. You get less tracks and cars, essentially.
So leaderboards, times, ghosts etc will not require plus, is that how it is on XBL?
Can somebody please ask him on Twitter if we have to pay Online fees for MMOs like FF14 and Elder Scrolls Online if we have PS+? I highly doubt that though but it would be amazing! Online fees are the only reason that keep me away from FF14 :/

Scott Rohde said you'd have to pay for a subscription to something like that in the Giant Bomb Interview dump truck.
These games wouldn't require a PS+ subscription though.
Sounds like the PS+ requirement has even more granularity than just on a game/app level though. As stated by Yoshida in the OP, they can go down to specific play modes of a game where there is direct contact with players.
We’re focusing on new services and online, like the “Share” button I previously mentioned and the ability to play using mobile devices with the cloud feature. Our plan is to continue to invest in the future, but investing like this is not compatible with our previous policy that involved reducing costs by every mean to keep the service free.
I apologize for the financial burden on our users, but on PS4 it’ll also provide early access to beta versions, free games and discounts like on PS3 and PS Vita. In addition to that PS Plus members will receive for free a special edition with slightly reduced functions of DriveClub.
FiveMinuteHero, I think you should take your plight to Sony directly, like here: http://community.eu.playstation.com...layStation-Store-in-Malta/td-p/4590409/page/3
The issue seems bit leftfield for this thread.
This is what no PS Store means for me, since 2007
- no demos
- no HOME
- no discounts
- no PSN exclusive games
- no DLC for games
- no DLC which I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR AND CAME WITH DISC GAMES <<-- no way to redeem, how bad is this!
- no PS Plus
- no online with games that require online pass
- and now... no online games at all
Good news on that front but I'm curious why is that even an option. Do they actually receive something in return for doing so?Looks like its up to publisher, theres no way a f2p publisher want to limit their audience by being behind paywall.
I asked too, but I doubt he does. If he does, please do send me a PM in case I miss your post in here ^-^
What about demos, apps?

I can now play online with my country no problem right now, because that doesn't require me to login into the store. But if it starts to require me to login to store to buy PS Plus to play online multiplayer, I'm stuck.
Just to be clear again: I can go hop over by getting a fake account under a different country, but I don't think it is how it should be done. Why should I break the terms and conditions of the service to be able to PAY for a service? Don't Sony like my Euros?
Hopefully they also allow other third party free-to-play games to also be completely free-to-play. F2P behind a paywall is somewhat nonsensical.
The slide at the Microsoft conference about World of Tanks was silly: "free to play with Xbox Live Gold."
Ps2?! they mentioned bc for ps2 games?Awesome. Common sense really for F2P games but glad to get that confirmation for DCUO and PS2
There were games this gen that were $60 just for sp. El shadi and KathrynWow.
So the games i buy for $60 that have online multiplayer, i can't play for free.
But the games i don't pay a penny for has free online?
Fucked up.
=OThere were games this gen that were $60 just for sp. El shadi and Kathryn
My point is were gonna get screwed anyway with game prices.=O
So, games that were $60 and included both single player and online multiplayer didn't exist this gen? Last gen? the generation before it (on PC/Mac)?
