OK so I played a song on easy mode in the demo and I was rubbish at it, the game said I was LOUSY. I noticed there was a calibration setting thing, is there a calibration procedure I need to go through and if so how do I do that? Do demos have any kind of manual that I can access?

One thing I found a bit odd is that Sega didn't try to make the logo a bit more western-friendly, by making the romanized name more prominent over the kanji and katakana. They didn't even use western naming conventions so it read Miku Hatsune instead, though maybe that's how Crypton Future Media decided to handle it over here. (Lots of people must think her name is Hatsune and surname is Miku, LOL.

I figured they would have an english logo too. I guess there's still time, have they shown the box art yet? I'd imagine it'll be the same as the JP release.
I think they'll stick with calling her Hatsune Miku instead of Miku Hatsune, the fan base waiting for the game already know her as that. They didn't change it around on the cover of the mikunopolis BD either. I find it rolls off the tongue better too.

Since I've already played f, the gameplay was not really that difficult for me. However, I did actually like using the sticks for star notes. Shame there was no song for Hard Mode, but demos rarely let you access anything above Normal anyway.

The thing that stood out to me the most was how smooth the graphics were. While the Vita version was still pretty, the character models were slightly blurry and jaggy.

Okay, I haven't played any of the Hatsune Miku games before, and um... wow. When I pick "Easy" to learn to play a game like this, I don't expect THAT many notes. Then I made the mistake of trying Normal. Notes everywhere! Literally, too, they come flying in from all directions to randomly picked spots on the screen. How am I supposed to keep track of that?

I'd comment on the graphics, if I could remember anything other that frantically searching for the next note. I think the yellow haired one played guitar in the second song. Looked nice enough.

I'm confused, but not entirely turned away. It's just a bit of a shock going from being able to play most songs on Ultimate in Theatrythmn Final Fantasy and then getting "Not Cleared" ratings on Easy. Well, it probably helps that I know the Final Fantasy songs.

Poor Miku looks so disappointed when you fail.

This -is- the fourth entry in the series, and the difficulty has been going up steadily between iterations. I also think some key visual tweaks that were present in the Dreamy Theater releases really should have been made here too (60fps animations, shadows around the notes to make them stand out more against the background). It might help to play the game on a smaller display or sit further away from the screen.

Gameplay-wise, the note placement tend to follow paths around the screen, rather than being truly random. An issue with lower difficulties is that these patterns might be harder to see because the note count is decreased in total; if you look at some charts on the highest difficulty, the paths the notes take are a lot more discernable (Catfood, Melancholic). Knowledge of the song you're playing helps a lot too.

Yeah that got me too.

EDIT: ok I fiddled with the calibration a bit, now I finally managed to clear a song! Scored 80.3 on World's End Dance Hall. I'm now no longer LOUSY, I'm STANDARD! yay!

A lot of it is probably practice. It probably doesn't help that I stand close to the screen for a game like this. For rhythm games, I like to stand up, easier to get in the groove, so to speak if you're not slouching on the couch while playing.

I'll give the demo a spin again later. It's fun enough to give a few more tries.

Keep going on Easy untill you're confident with it. The good thing about it is that on Easy you only use one of the face buttons, Normal uses 2 buttons, Hard and Extreme use all 4. (all difficulties use the sticks for star notes)

Shit, maybe it's a real girl after all.

Very fun game, although I suck at normal. I failed 2/3 songs w repeated attempts....although I've come close to clearing both several times.

In other news, I pre-ordered on Amazon this morning :).

Seeing stuff like this (something that I thought would never happen) is still kind of amazing to me. :)

It really did show up on the main pages of the store? When I downloaded it the front end hadn't updated yet and I was worried it wouldn't appear there since it's so niche.

miku is cute, but game is ass. I should try the calibration thing... game definitely doesn't feel 60fps... which should be standard for all music games.

Game also hurts my hands after like 2-3 songs. i assume this is an arcade game or something?

They really should have stuck in a tutorial o_O

Took me 10 fails before i figured out what fucking button 'star' was :I

It's really there. I saw it yesterday and took the pic for posterity. Realization that it is actually coming hasn't totally sunk in.

It is 30fps. And I still don't understand why can't Sega do the notes at 60 while the backgrounds are at 30 like Harmonix does with Rock Band at least.

There are a couple of loading screens that teach you the double notes and the hold notes.

There is a manual, press the PS button and it's on the XMB. But yeah I do think a tutorial would've been helpful too.

Do try the calibration thing, I'm definitely doing better after doing a bit of calibration. Though it would help if they had some sort of assisted calibration rather than it being so manual.

Not 60fps. Game runs at a fairly constant 30, unlike the Dreamy Theater releases that preceeded it. That meltdown happened in the main thread back in February.

This version was designed for the Vita from the ground up, then slapped on the PS3 half a year later with little changed in the jump besides 6 additional songs.

The full game has a fairly in-depth tutorial; not sure why the demo omits it. The JP demo was exactly the same. There is a manual though, as stated above.

Tried out each song on each difficulty, got Great on the first two & then Excellent on the 3rd song while trying Easy. Tried Normal and things felt much more fun as there was more variety. Maybe it's because I played a lot of DDR using the PS2 controller (I didn't have room for a mat.....& it was much easier/faster to unlock stuff), but I was able to breeze through them for the most part, always getting around 90 to 95%. It can be a bit distracting at times trying to figure out where the notes are flying in from when the background has some crazy stuff going on, but overall, I liked the demo.

Still not sure if it's worth launch day price for me. I can't bring myself to get it for $60.

Good thing for you Amazon has it priced at $49.95 then!

Hmm, slightly better. At least Sega decided not to go with the standard $60 price. Maybe I'll wait & see if there's a pre-order bonus. Or better yet, just go onto YouTube or whatever and listen to all the songs to see if I like them enough to get the game and count that as getting the soundtrack.

If you want to see more of the game itself, there are still recordings from when I streamed the import version when it came out in March. I also linked the two highlights I made from these videos earlier in the thread.

CD802, something you can try that helped me is using an arcade stick, it really helps with the button presses, what with the buttons on the DS3 being so mushy. ymmv.

Is there a soundtrack album out there? Preferably digitally? There isn't much Miku on iTunes, other than the supercell album(which is great by the way).

This is what I discovered when playing the import. I have a 46" TV and when I was too close the game was too difficult to play. Moving away from the screen vastly improved my ability to play well.

I downloaded the demo out of pure curiosity. The screen gets waaay too busy for me to tell where the fuck the QTE's are. Even in normal it's pretty frustrating.

Is anyone willing to help with banners for the OT? Something similar to Technika's OT style would be nice.

If you mean Technika Tune's OT, you could ask Takuya. He really did a great job with that thread's graphics.

The game isn't fully playable on arcade stick since you need both d-pad and analog stick inputs.

That...would explain alot. I miss on the "star" notes everytime. ( ._.)

Newbie to the series. Loving the demo. Finally managed to get all the Excellents on Normal earlier. I think I'll go for Perfects later. It's so fun!

I've noticed that a few of you seem to be having trouble because you don't know what to focus on. Personally, I just focus on the black thingies - they're spaced according to their rhythm, after all. I started being a lot more consistent once I stopped bothering with the colorful icons and instead just followed the trail and went with the rhythm. >_>

God, I remember when I started playing Diva for the first time like about a month and a half ago.

In the last month and a half, I became hopelessly addicted to this game. Went from having difficulty on Normal songs to finishing the entire game on Extreme, having three songs perfected on Extreme, and the ability the Great or Excellent pretty much everything else (except NegiPosi*Continue and Sadistic.Music Factory, fuck those songs).

Neat to see the game finally coming to the West, but I don't need to pick up the English version after importing both the PS3 version and Vita version from Japan. Enjoy it fellow NA folk! The game is so worth it!

So I've never been into Vocaloids, the only stuff I enjoyed about Miku was a Tau army themed after her (with Gundam crisis suits!) but I enjoy rythm games so I downloaded the demo before going to bed.

I've made a huge mistake. Had to force myself to get off the couch 1h later. And it's just 3 songs? The full game will end me.

The timing feels weird though. Can't put my finger on it yet but it seems I'll need to play with the manual configuration.
