Gamestop PS4 preorder reserve slots more than double of XB1?

Went to Gamestop today to preorder Pokemon X/Y and while I was there I struck up a conversation with the guy working there about the PS4/Xbone preorders. He said that the Xbone so far has 15 preorders, and they are all out of allotments which they aren't expecting anymore for the next few weeks. The PS4 has 20 preorders with 5 more left and they are expecting more allotments for the PS4 within the next couple of days.

Went to my local Gamestop today at the mall and the manager told me they had a 3:1 ratio in preorders in favor of PS4. Pretty crazy.

IGN reported a 3:2 split in preorders in favor of the PS4 in the US. So while it's not as extreme as some anecdotes seem to indicate, it's a big difference as the US is the biggest Xbox market.
That's also just preorders of launch consoles, sales that aren't even guaranteed. And that's just first shipment, right after e3, so it's probably mostly enthusiast preorders. I'm just saying there's a lot of factors here. Different audiences that will buy at different stages in the console's lifecycle. It's way too early to call anything.

i worked the launch of the 360 and ps3 and it was the same then too. But once the intial ps3's were gone, and we got restocked we never sold out again, they sat there for months because of the 599 price tag

What rubin said and the other the initial couple of millions dont really matter.
And im sure that microsoft can sell 3~4 million on with marketing alone.

But they will feel it when its ps2 era sales numbers all over again.
And i think if they keep those policies it will happen from what i heard US ISP charges extremely much for laughable speeds. US is not ready for such a device no wonder google is rolling out its own network.
WTF $60 for a 10MB/s and clippy B was trolling EU.

For that money you can get 15 times as fast internet here in most developed EU countries and probably have digital television and unlimited calling to home or mobile number in some countries. Microsoft should focus on EU instead of US and fuck off with mandatory kinect.

Guerilla Games look like they will do very well out of the PS4 launch, as it seems Killzone: SF is the most popular exclusive. There will be full servers on the game's mp which is great!

Watchdogs has strong interest too looking at the pre-order lists.

Really interesting to see BF4 bundles leading COD bundles on that Gamestop list. I bet EA is eyeing that very closely as well.

That's because at the moment really only the "hardcores" are preordering. The mainstream isn't and BF3 was also more popular in internet-forums, but sales were still much better for CoD.

This is also why noone can say if the ps4-sales will be stronger in usa/uk, even if the preorders are better today.

.

I'm very excited about the launch of PS4 for one reason; Killzone will finally get the love and attention it always deserved.

IMO, Killzone is the only Launch exclusive that makes you go WOW, and is easily the Resistance 1 of the PS4.

This will sound messed up, but I'm glad inFamous got delayed. PS4's early adopters will be "forced", in a sense, to pick up Killzone as it really is the only shining exclusive launch gem.

Yeah, it's great a lot of people will get to experience the game, very likely their first in the series. And everything so far to me indicates this will have a superior SP campaign to the others in the series.

Can't wait to get on those Killzone servers again too. People are in for a treat.

Is the thread up?

Not yet - I've PMed Chubigans with the numbers etc and I've left the decision up to him whether to post in this thread or make a new one.

Before people get super excited it's only ONE region of a UK retailer - but it's the only information I have access too. Still - it's pretty interesting stuff.

Awesome. One retailer would probably be a good indication of what's happening with others, so it is great to know.
Thanks.

The mainstream are not going to buy a $500 machine en masse. The reason for why the 360 became such a success and ate into Sony's historic dominance was because the latter not only launched at a significantly higher price, but because it launched late as well.

The vast majority of early adopters will be the enthusiasts, or 'core', demographic and brand loyalty from the PS2 era didn't mean a great lot in the US when the previous gen began, so I see no reason why we cant see yet another reversal this time in Sony's favour

He's a good one to PM, rather impartial in this console war and guaranteed not to cook the numbers one way or the other.

My thread would have been better

"PS4 WINNING IN UK, XBOX FAIL, PREORDERS AND SHIT"

"look at these motherfucking numbers, fuck you micrisoft. no bias."

That would pretty much completely explain their high price point. It also tells that they will very likely have a huge price drop within 2 years after they get their production back on track.

It explains both the price point and why they are unconcerned about selling in only 21 countries. Regardless they still shouldn't be region locking the hardware because what's the point if someone has the cash to import it from somewhere else. They are highly likely to know they need broadband and would have it.
