Shoulda had more moe.

In all seriousness, I'd like to know how Shooting Love did sales wise. I wonder if putting in anime girls and voice actors actually makes a tangible difference in numbers of units sold. For RPG's probably yes, but for small niche like shooting games?

Shooting Love debuted at #34 the week of May 27th.

Software outside of the top 20 doesn't list sales numbers, so all we know is it was under 2,800 units.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that SDOJ sold roughly twice as many units online than from retail outlets, but I might be thinking of a different game.

She's the only playable character in 360 more afaik.
OK, that seems to be the case now.

But before I selected Score Attack Team Mode, I played 360 mode (Score Attack and not SA Team Mode) a few times and was able to select the standard 3 pilots at will.

When I first selected Team Mode, I had a confirmation screen of some kind which I didn't take the time to try to read because it was partially cut off from the screen zooming and because I was on the treadmill at the time. I'd assume it was warning me about this, but it seems weird that there is no apparent way to reverse this.

I might have to see about translating the manual a bit, I guess.

Shmup corner set up with my 2nd 360. Using my old Dell monitor for now until I find a better monitor for a good price.

Nice. I have a similar setup with my 360 hooked up to my PC monitor for hot tate action. Man, I wish I was home playing DDP instead of stuck at work "working."

I can only think you had switched to the Arcade/1.5 mode without realizing it - it is just a tap to the left or right to switch modes after all. 360 mode has no ship selection whatsoever.

The popup was probably notifying you what team you were placed on.

Going to pick up my copy from the post office later today, but won't have much time to play it the next couple of days. Any recommendations which mode(s) to try first?

I'd start with arcade mode, because it's the original version and it's great, but avoid bikinis.

Unless you're terrible like me. Novice is going to keep me busy for a long time, hah.

I love the soundtrack. I could keep Stage 4 music on repeat all day.

Maybe I'm in the minority - but I love 360 mode more than all the other modes so far. It has a more deep and fun (IMO) scoring system. The other modes seem more vanilla compared to it.

So local scores don't save at all in SDOJ? They are always back to default when I come back to the game. Kinda lame cuz I like chasing my personal best in these games.

Thanks guys. I ended up starting with Arcade mode and Type-C, since it was always my ship of choice in Resurrection. It moved really slow and some of the faster bullet patterns felt impossible to dodge with it. Other than that I immediately liked the use of rich colors and the higher difficulty. It felt really wild and messy though, but that's kind of normal when playing a Cave game for the first time.

I wasn't supposed to play any further, but I did anyway, especially since the extreme slowness of Type-C bothered me somehow. I picked 1.5 with the same ship and completed the first two stages. It was more bearable, but maybe that was just from coming from the much more complex patterns of the latter stages. Tried again with Type-A and it was really fast as expected. The enemy patterns became more familiar and the game started to be really enjoyable and addictive, so I tried Novice as well. It was significantly easier and I didn't get hit until stage 4. Might still mainly stick to it until I become more acquainted with enemy and bee locations.

360 mode remains untouched, but I'll definitely get to that next time.

I suppose most in here have autobomb off, right?
And does anyone else think that Type-C feels slower than in Resurrection?

They should be saving. Make sure you're looking at the correct score table, as there's one for each doll/costume combination.

They're all there on the local leaderboard shown during the attract mode, but the in game one resets to 1 billion* or whatever for the session for whatever reason.

*I hate the super high scores these days, makes it hard as hell to tell what your score is at a glance.

Never played DFK much (...other than the iOS version, didnt have the cab adapter back then) but I've mostly been playing with C laser in this one. Of course I tried A for the heck of it the other day and destroyed my high score. I normally go with the B type in DDPs but I guess I like C for the stronger wide shot while using the laser type.

I've been playing auto bomb off recently, but left it on for a long time, and used auto hyper (one of the "option" cheats) for a bit too. I think they helped me take more chances and get more used to some of the tighter swarms cause that little auto fallback. I do all manual now, mostly just cause you get more bombs with each life when auto bomb is off, plus scoring wise, when the auto bomb triggered it killed your chain, vs just losing 1/3 or whatever by dying.

They should be saving - but there's a bug that doesn't allow you to enter your initials - so all the scores on mine say CAV. The score itself should still be there though.

Ha ha, tell me about it. It doesn't help that the Japanese break down super high numbers every thousand thousands, not every hundred hundreds. (i.e. 1,000,000 would be noted as 100,0000)

Very much so. A little slow on the first up-boot but snappy after that.
Are the visual options any good? I'll probably be playing it with smoothing on but it'd be nice to have the option to turn it off. I remember reading that it's always on or something but not sure if the patch fixed that or not.

There was a layer of extra unnecessary filtering that was turned off permanently with the patch, but it's impossible to turn off all types of filtering as it's one of the games that do not render square pixels. I don't think the patch added an option to change the resize style like Ketsui does.

lol I'm terrible too :) It's just that I don't like the Novice modes, I feel like cheating if I play Novice. Not that there's anything wrong with Novice, I just find Arcade more satisfying even if I suck.

Ah, right. I forgot the PGM games use oblong pixels.

At least the filtering is justified here. Not an issue then, I'll grab it.

Image can be a little soft. But nothing too bad. Not as ace as the fantastic PS2 port running at 240p but, then again, this one works better on modern HDTVs. Wasn't this the first Cave 360 port? Gets a little slack.

Yeah, and I just checked, and I can not find any type of visual options on the game for filtering.

It's 5pb's port, and considering it was created with source code stolen from Arika, it doesn't get any slack. Pretty sure 5pb lost the license over the debacle.

Hmmm - maybe... I thought DDP Resurrection and Akai Katana allowed initial entry?

Rusurrection is DFK. I don't think Akai Katana has initial entry.

The low sales numbers for Saidaioujou blow my mind. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if this GAF thread is one of the major hotspots of Cave discussion in the entire world.

maybe one of the major hotspots, but when it was around cave-stg was the go-to place.

and then it closed and a lot of those users became more active on shmups.system11.

I got the SDOJ patch and played a bit. First, it deletes ALL of your coins and EVERYTHING you unlocked. In fact, it deletes your entire system file, so you have to redo all the config stuff (screen, buttons, etc). Second, the slowdown now feels the same even if you have the extra windows on display during play, but overall it feels like there is more slowdown in the stages than before (the boss fights feel exactly the same, though), which I am not too happy about for Arcade HD, but I guess it will make Ver 1.5 a bit easier to clear for people.

Unfortunately there is still no easy way to view your offline scores.

The leaderboards were reset last night, but the Cave blog says that was just a test, and they will be reset again tomorrow, and finalised then.

That's odd...None of that happened to me. Maybe it does that only under certain conditions.

Sounds like I got screwed. Right after I installed the patch I started the game while signed into xbox live and it said "system file not found", it made a new one, and everything was gone. I had everything unlocked too. :(

I know the feeling. I just erased my Ketsui save file after months and months of play because I was uninstalling it and did not realize the save file was part of the wrapper...usually they are different. ;-(

Hey guys I know I can access the foreign digital markets on XBox 360 and install games if I make a profile for that region. I also know if I buy and install anything this way that isn't region free I'm boned as it wont play.

So is the digital version of Espgaluda 2 region free or not?

Same question applies for
Galaxy Force
Eschatos
Mushihimesama Futari
Barret Seoul (lol at that translation
Shooting love 200x
I dunno what galaxy force is, but afaik shooting love 200x is the only locked game in your list.
