GB/WH Rumor: Microsoft dropping basically all Xbox One DRM, announcement today

This would allow me to be the console if true, but right now I'm doubting. Kinect isn't such a big deal to me if I can unplug the console from the internet. If I could either remove Kinect or internet drm, it would have to be the internet because while I don't really like Kinect I don't really hate it either.

Can somebody get Crazy Buttocks on a Train in here?

I think the thing to take away from this is that it's good that a "minority" of gamers speak loudly.

It's the only way to be heard over the complacency of those disseminating the news.

#NoDRM worked if this is true.

It has nothing to do with us. "No used games" is a NO-NO as far as water cooler talk.

if they do it good on them. makes a likely sale for me after a price drop or two (or three)

It is unclear what caused this huge change in policy right after E3

Lol, really Giantbomb? Really?

It wasn't like there's been a massive shitstorm surrounding MS since the announcement of the bone or anything.

If this is true, I hope they still have the feature where you don't have to have the disk in the unit to play the games after you have installed them. I can see them having you to insert a disk if you are not connected to the internet. If you are connected, it allows you to play your games without them being in the drive.

MS is a software studio after all, I am sure if this is all true it was just a matter of modifying the software to allow it. I am sure that there are things in place to ensure authentication of the games, but if this is all true then it is good for those that felt it was hurting their rights.

If this is true, then obviously this is great news.

After the bomb that Sony dropped about the PS4 not requiring to be online/mandatory 24 hour checks, they had to do SOMETHING or else not many people were going to "jump in" Sure you'd have some who were going to buy it, but the largely negative feedback had them really thinking long and hard about backtracking.

Holy shit if this happens, man as if GAF and the gaming community as a whole weren't already heroes for steering Sony towards no DRM with the twitter campaign.

This console war could be more interesting and get back on track if MS can recover from this. (Sony still has the $399 advantage though)

Could this play a part in why Gamestop ceased all XB1 preorders?

Would they really delay the XB1 into December and beyond to pull all the DRM stuff from it? Would they have/need to?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

i'd muuuuch rather they backtrack than put their head in the sand and move ahead with the drm. "admission of failure" nothing. more like regained sanity

Let's see if true.

Still going to go PS4 as my primary console, but maybe I'll get an XBOne on down the line at this rate.

Basically this.

For me it does not mean I will now buy Xbone on day one. BUT it means I am considering buying it in the future depending on price/ games. With the DRM I was never going to even consider it.

So good job, Microsoft. And good job on backpedalling 5 months before the launch - you still have time to do the positive PR.
