If true, I guess PS4 : XBONE preorders must be at an even bigger difference than imagined.

Anyway, extended E3 this year.

If this is true and 343i doesn't pull a Halo 4, I might pick one of these up when Halo 5 comes out. Maybe after a price drop also.

Until then, PS4 on day uno.

Thing is, even if this rumor turns out true I would still be wary about getting an Xbone, just because of the potential of MS rolling it all back slowly over the course of the gen.

Would be really good if true, but honestly they would need to change all their PR message altogether, creating an unprecedented mess.
The infinite power of the cloud would be gone and proved to be bs, their investements over their network totally wasted.
It's not that simple, also it's not clear how that would fit with their vision outside games.
So it's not so simple to make a 180 turnaround. Maybe they are planning to make some tweaks.

Don't agree with you at all man. Why would all their cloud stuff disappear because of this? All they would do is label the game boxes that require the cloud to run with a "Requires internet connection" just as they do today for any online only games. Several PS3 games that are online only have this on their packaging. If a game is designed to be cloud based then it would require a internet connection. Heck, Sony has announced more "on-line" only games for the PS4 than MS has and those will require and always on-line connection to play.

No way they do ALL of those things. I would have believed it if it was a subset of those items.

All of them? No.

That's what I mean, too good to be true.

I don't know who this GB reporter is though, some people here say he's rock solid reliable.

Gah, I still HIGHLY doubt this. It's far, far too soon to backpedal.

I don't give two shits if the family plan sharing is in.

If they drop all the bullshit they've been spewing, I will seriously consider buying an XBone.

Holy shit...

I don't get it, it's only been like a week, why now?

Because E3 didn't work. They thought they had a line-up of games good enough for people to just get over it. Not only did they not, but Sony through several curveballs with their price point and the way they actually addressed consumer concerns.

For launch, XBO was primed to bomb. When Jimmy Fallon is asking the other guys about their used games policy, it's time to engage Panic Mode.

It was only a matter of time. Regardless of how much they want to stick with this plan they probably looked at the data and realized the damage far exceeds any benefit.

They're a very reactionary company so if this turns out true I won't be surprised.

Still don't believe this rumor is true.

Not to say it might not still happen down the road, but not today and not any time this week.

If this happens. Then that's great. But I'll still be buying a ps4 first and have that as my main console for the first couple of years to still vote with my wallet. Will actually buy an X1 as well, but probably not until at least the first significant price drop.

OK MS, do all that + drop the mandatory connected camera and I might be tempted to pick one up for the exclusives in a year or so when it'll be cheaper.

given they were defending it this earlier this week I find this incredibly unlikely

admittedly this is the only thing that I don't believe. It's Wednesday. They were defending this as recently as Monday in interviews posted Monday and yesterday. Did they JUST decide this today? OR if they did decide it yesterday or monday, certainly they could have asked for those interviews or pressers to be withheld based on new information/policies...

if this does happen, based on that.... their PR is just fucking useless... and executives need a serious shake up...

It basically was... It was literally the highlight of their press conference.

$399 was bigger. no-DRM seemed bigger because it was a knife through relative silence... but the bigger actual news was $399.

Only required to connect the console to the internet on first use? That's still going to fuck a shitton of people. If you are going to drop always online you have to drop any bit of 'online required' too.

Fuck em.

Jimmy Fallon said sony was the only console that supports used games, and don't require online yesterday, the crowd cheered. Xbox one will be on JF again but it will be EA, Microsoft can't clear things up on JF, Jimmy forced them to change their minds because of national TV.

I guess this was just the extra push that made them reconsider, it was just too much of a disaster and Fallon giving them shit live and crowd cheering was just too much to take for Don Mattrick

hope it's false just so i can see the people who went from "vocal minority doesn't represent the mainstream market" to "of course it mattered, they listened, now sony's advantage is gone" all of a sudden find themselves lost and confused

if MS backtrack on always online + DRM it pretty much proves out how OUT OF TOUCH those behind Xbone are/were that they actually thought this would fly, and that someone actually gives a fuck. Now, MS just need to scrap the name ('XBOX One') and shrink the heifer down...

I really think it was the military stuff that killed the DRM. Being seen as anti-military in the US is a literal kiss of death. As soon as that first Fox report on it goes out it would destroy Microsoft's image in the US.

If they made exemptions for the military then it would basically destroy the whole DRM argument so it's all or nothing and in a nation that is so pro-military, no DRM is a better bet.

I think this was the fastest rumor thread->IT'S FUCKING TRUE turnaround I've ever seen.

I mean until MS makes the announcement, it's still rumor, but with GB on board I think we can say it's a safe bet at this point.

like how giantbomb was pretty much sure that the ps4 was going to be just like the xbox?
