And how is it his theory? In 1up yours he said something about it having meaning with the playstation 3 etc but he didn't say that it was about MGS saving the PS3 etc etc..

You could claim we can't read, but even reading the original post it can easily be taken the wrong way, what with the title and all.

And seriously, it's not being 'grammar police' when people say you should just learn basic English. It will benefit you in the long run, and prevent you from looking dimwitted. It's not about being picky.

For the record - the 'theory' was pretty sound. It was the actual transcription that was suspect. I like Shane.

Me too. I don't think you can relate specific characters to specific companies and I don't think every single line has a double meaning, but Kojima is definitely referencing Playstation hardware and the Metal Gear games in the dialog.

You claim I should learn basic English, yet the unconscious folly I made was putting "their" in place of "they're" two times; mind you I was typing all of the dialog from the trailer and trying to decipher it at 1:30am. I obviously know the difference between "their" and "they're" being that I'm a college student, but I suppose I was too preoccupied with my own amusement to catch the mistake.

As for the title, it was meant to have a question mark after it.

I need to watch this trailer 50 more times. There has to be a hidden theme because the dialog didn't make much sense and Ryan said they put a ton of work into it. I seriously doubt this is mostly a story scene that will be in the game. This needs to be looked into more.

With Ryan there, the localizations are supposed to be much better. All the crazy dialog is there for a reason.

In the latest 1up yours podcast Shane briefly mentions that he believes Kojima had a hidden message behind the latest MGS4 trailer. He proclaims that Kojima is secretly inserting a commentary about the console wars and Metal Gear Solid 4's involvement.... that kojima used the pre-raiden part of the trailer as a giant metaphor.

Hmmm why else would the trailer be so odd?

well here's the deal, I attempted to transcribe the dialog to reveal a secondary meaning to each line.

We have four characters in the trailer, Cambell, Snake, Meryl and Liquid. Cambell and Meryl are representative of sony, Snake is Kojima, and Liquid is Microsoft.


Lets examine the dialog, the transcription is in bold



there are probably many errors with my transcription but it does seem almost plausible considering the second half of the trailer was basically homosexual erotica between vamp and raiden.

Waging war as method of sustaining economy is NOT some clever jab at the console wars, it's a concept that has been explored before (and I cannot wait to see Kojima's take on it) Just because you can draw random parallels between two completely separate events doesn't always mean you should. Well this certainly explains alot of gaffer's behavior, if the man they idolize equates video game dialouge to a farce video game "war", I could see why so many of them are so crazy. If you don't see it you're crazy! The main mistake in the OP's transcript is that Liquid represents Nintendo, not Microsoft!

Kojima is explaining to us that Sony is expecting him to save them, and that the situation is the same as it was for the PS1 "1st generation?", and they need MGS4 to be a huge hit to counter Nintendo, but he says that's not what he does, "I'm no hero", so they tell him he can leave, "Fulfill his destiny".

There's alot more there about the gaming market, and Raiden represents someone...but it's very Kojima to tell us something this way.
