Indie Games [July] Now Voting - Post 874!

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
any you guys been watching 7 Days to Die, it had the potential to be huge, it is almost like they took all the beat aspects of a zombie game and built this one...

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=160808204

You can get access to the Alpha by backing their Kick starter, I did the $25 Beta one as I prefer a more stable game...

it reminds me of a 3D dont starve but with zombies, you have to spend the day resource hunting (as the zombies are weak during day) to survive the night by buiding a house...

Looks very good

Pretty sure I read some sub-amazing things, but I'll need to do some research. Might be misremembering that.

I think the realism focused graphics were a bit of a misstep. Seeing those crudely drawn marionettes animate badly over that alien vox landscape is just awful. Although the gameplay has potential I gotta admit if they can make it work. If it can capture that zing that makes people play Minecraft and Day Z and combine them then they might have something here.

Pretty sure 1000 amps is the first game I 100%'ed in ages. That was a cool little game.

I have watched parts of the DLC for Indie Game the Movie, and now, I feel bad for criticizing some indie games: I feel like I am sometimes the guy depicted by Edmund McMillen on the video "teh internets", since I make some harsh judgements on some indie games. "Braid isn't as good as others say it is. Ahahaha! It has flaws!"

Just feel relieved that people in this thread are probably doing better in this regard than most people on the outside. My Indie>AAA thread got bumped earlier today and oh man. Some people..

I took a quick look at the indie>aaa thread earlier since it was bumped. Yikes :/

You should feel bad.

"Toki Tori isn't as good as others say it is: it has flaws!

I know why you resent myself. Edmund's video is five years old and still relevant.

Hahaha. I'm still curious if anyone here was able to be.at the game.

It's too much luck reliant near the end. You need enough bullets to fend off another raid close to the end. So your forced to use the dog which I think has 60% chance to catch something. So if your hunter misses once with his 90% chance and you fail a couple of times with your dog, your screwed.

That's survival I guess, a bit dependent on the rng.

I lurked on these threads for the last months on the shadows but always attentive hehehe I have a nice little game to recommend and to vote for if possible.

Ending

HxZcbgl.png

You can try it on the browser on the link attached to its title or download for free a local flash version for Linux, Windows or Mac OSX. It's a very smart puzzle rogue-like, relentlessly unforgiving that has two modes, one that eases the player on the mechanics of the game and its enemies with some small puzzles that will steadily increase in difficulty and the "proper" game where it transforms itself in a ruthless roguelike dungeoncrawler.

I'm completely hooked on the iOS version but I just discovered the free desktop versions and downloaded it on all my computers. This will be this years Superhexagon for me.

Just tried it for a bit, cool little game but does it actually have... an ending? I tried the roguelike mode and you dont even get highscores or anything? How can you keep track of how far you've made it/ whats the incentive to play more?

Get to the ending. I haven't yet but I'll give an hint. Some exits are different than others.

Haven't heard too much of Tengami lately, so here are some lovely looking new screens from this digital pop-up book game:

So beautiful.

I just got across this game:

Drifter

According to the Greenlight page:

Drifter is an open-world sandbox space trading game with a procedurally-generated galaxy 100,000 light years across made up of tens of thousands of star systems to explore and features an original soundtrack by composer Danny Baranowsky. Take on the role of a spaceship captain attempting to eke out a living among the stars by trading goods between star systems, hunting pirates for bounties, mining asteroids for valuable ore, or even becoming a pirate yourself. The choice is yours!

Drifter will feature:
  • 20,000 procedurally generated star systems
  • Varied ships to choose from which you can then customize to suit how you want to play
  • Many ways to play such as trading, mining, bounty hunting, piracy, and exploration
  • Dozens of procedurally generated missions
  • A crafting system which allows you to create equipment and ships not found elsewhere in the game
  • The ability to develop your character's skills and reputation to meet your goals
  • Optional story missions which further immerse you in the world of Drifter

Sounds very promising!

Ergon / Logos - Really interesting experimental one-button game by Molleindustria (Every Day the Same Dream, Unmanned). It could be loosely described as a ''platform game'' through the author's stream of consciousness, where you hectically jump from one sentence to another, instinctively trying to put some meaning into it, creating patterns or just goofing around with associations, seeing where will it take you, in the maze like reality that consists only of signs. You can download it for free here: http://www.molleindustria.org/ergon_logos/ergon_logos.html.

Sounds huge and ambitious. It says it's coming this summer, so hopefully we're going to get some impressions pretty soon.

So I'm pretty frustrated. I had gotten an Amazon Gift Card, thinking that the "Buy with Amazon Payment" on Humble Bundle sites and non-Steam game sites would mean I could use the gift card. But it doesn't. So basically I wasted $25 on a card that could have gone towards a Steam Wallet Card or another Visa gift card. Ugh

Was hoping to use that gift card for Sir You Are Being Hunted

Is there any way to get Steam Wallet codes through Amazon? Any good indie games to get through Amazon?

Fly'n
$2.49
Space Chem $9.99

I remember Amazong doing some Indie Bundles a weeks ago, are they still selling bundles?

I preordered it and posted a screenshot in the last thread. Its cool to look at but the current version was barely a game. Definitely needs another few months before I look at it again.

Get to the ending. I haven't yet but I'll give an hint. Some exits are different than others.

Ah thanks :)

Cloudface: Mainly because of the tune that just keeps sticking and the adorable platform elements, looking forward to the full game.
Magrunner: Great puzzle shooter, i usually play all of these and this is a geat addition.
Scrolls: For me Mojangg did it again :p
Super Splatters: Surprisingly fun puzzle game.

Anyone remember that game Toribash? Is the online community still active? I'd love to see an amped-up improved version of that on Greenlight or Kickstarter or whatever. I was horrible at it, but it's still my favorite fighting game ever

Edit: holy shit it is on Greenlight and already in the Top #100! Here's the link if anyone wants to vote:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=150913867

And the trailers there show why this game is so awesome

Hah, just stuck my head in this thread and saw your post. I actually made a post about Toribash in one of the previous Indie Game threads. I still play it all the damn time (going by belts, I've got over 5000 multiplayer games logged), and it never gets old.

The online community is still pretty healthy, actually. I've never had a problem finding a game.

I am more surprised at you finding a random post in the middle of this thread :p

Saw your PM. Yeah I was like a Toribash fanatic for a few months then my laptop got a virus so I erased all my downloaded games. But now I definitely want to get back into Toribash. It was always so satisfying to rip an opponent in half or break his arm with some crazy manuever or just have a free fall battle off the Empire State Building

That game just never got old

Trucker Sexologist
Last chance to get in on King Arthur's Gold on Indie Game Stand (30 minutes left.) The game is already set for a Steam release when the secret beta is over so you should be able to get a Steam key post launch. Buying the game now also gets you into the beta.

It's basically Chivalry crossed with Terraria.

Finally caught up on all the MetaVendetta podcasts.. nice to have a new podcast to listen to. My wife and daughter are hooked on it as well. Thanks for pointing it out! I only listen to a handful of podcasts, so I appreciate the heads up!

Anyways, planning on voting on the games this weekend!

Does Aaron Steed's Ending count as a July release? Finally got the IOS version and it is awesome

If so, only need to play one more indie game to nominate for voting

I've played Gods Will Be Watching, Futuridium, and Ending

Well the voting only works for the games on the list, since we want to give every game a fair chance and the same time of exposure. Plus OP and voting is PC only. But please feel free to make a proper post about Aaron Steed here in the thread with screenshot and explanation why others should try it.

Got it. But you and another GAFfer posted about the freeware version of Ending in this thread. So would it be a nominee in next month's thread?

My votes so far:

  • A Dark Room: More serious than Candy Box and I liked it more than the previous game. As Candy Box you "unlock" more gameplay as you advance through the plot.
  • Alltynex: Shump heavily influenced by 90's aesthetics. It's good game for the genre but don't expect remarkable enemy designs.
  • Blues for Mittavinda:The game is interesting, I like how the scenaries were made and even the clay animation being rough gives some kind of special charm to this game.
  • Decalc: Puzzle game for people who like math, while I had fun with the game it may not be for everyone, and the mouse cursor is a bit annoying.
  • Fleish & Cherry in "Crazy Hotel": Adventure game influenced by old cartoons! I can't love it enough!
  • Gods will be watching: A Survivor/Adventure little game. It's pretty hard to manage your team. Looking forward for the extended version now that the game was funded though Indiegogo
  • Hypersuper Cannon: Arcade game the main objective is to beat your previous score. It doesn't really explain what you have to do, how to play or how the upgrades work probably to give that nostagia vibe. :D
  • Inverto: Good FPP with gravity puzzles
  • Soundodger: Shump+Rhythm game with a good soundtrack. It's not a hard game so you can relax while linstening to good tracks.

    ========== Honorable Mentions ==============
  • Glob: Interesting mechanics but it can be annoying if you don't play with a X360 controller
  • Cloud Face: Still in alpha and not much to play but that song, it's the happiest song I ever listened.
  • Chess the Gathering: Just a prototype but have the potencial to be an interesting and creative game.

It was a busy month for me so I didn't have enough time to play many games as the previous month.
