They will give up on Europe, its pretty much confirmed, hell they practically have given up. Japan will follow soon.

They will focus all Wii U efforts on North America, I think its one of the reason Iwata became NOA's CEO, that's the only region they seem to care for when it comes to Wii U.

Even then I highly doubt it can be salvaged, but I'm still going to wait for Mario Kart 8 to be released before I consider anything definitive.

I'm no analyst or anything, but seriously, Wii U will straight up die this holiday season without an irresistible price cut or bundle in my opinion.

And that makes me upset, because I want to support this thing.

Yeah..you can say sales will pick up when the heavy hitters come out but blowing a years lead before the next-gen consoles is just terrible.

Nintendo better look at those "Other" stats pretty hard, NA and Japan alone won't get them out of this mess (I'm in NA myself though).

Well at least the 3DS and its software are doing ok, I'll continue to support it but if the company wants me to get a Wii U they're going to have to really go all-out in the next year, I still think it's time for a rebranding campaign.

In all seriousness, at what point do the nintendo fans stop pretending that this is all part of nintendos plan, and start accepting that this console is on the brink?
I think once the holiday season is over the picture will become clear to everyone, assuming it goes as terribly as things have been going. Hopefully the holiday games turn things around, but I don't won't be think too unrealisticly.

Then the more blind fans will say "bu-bu-but Mario Kart and Smash on the horizon!". :/

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Yep there is no way they hit the target without a new model. Nintendo vastly overshipped last holiday and it will bite them in the ass

Dont underestimate the PokemonZ - cant have enough consoles on shelves when it hits.

But yeah, you can see why they announced the black 3DS XL so fast after having to report such numbers.

But this just shows that they learned pretty much nothing from the 3DS launch.

Well, at least it isn't 0.

This is true. At this point the people buying Wii Us are 1) people hoping nintendo will come through 2) people who love monster hunter

Not sure I honestly expected many more sales. Also it's hilarious that the Wii sold more than the Wii U.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
There should be sirens going off at Nintendo, but they don't seem to be entering panic mode with Wii U.

Anyone who gives up on t\e biggest combined territory should be canned. What a disaster

Holy shit. iirc Nintendo handhelds usually sell way better in North America. NoA is fucking up really bad.

The $129 DS lite dominated... because it was $129.

I don't think nintendo is in a position to drop the price to that level.

The system is literally dead in EU at this point.

Wii U need a very heavy price drop (€100 or more) if they want to keep it relevant there.

It's gonna die no matter what they do.

There is literally nothing realistic that Nintendo can do to save this console.

Nintendo is gonna go handheld only a lot sooner than most people would expect.

nintendo doesn't really lose that much money unless their software bombs because that is where they actually make their money. once they start releasing major titles and those don't profit, sirens will go off sure as hell

And it seems nintendo really has no intention of dropping the price. With the kind of nonchalant attitude they seem to have the crash and burn this holiday will be something to see

There are hundreds of people I deal with daily who still think the WiiU is an attachment not a separate new console and who can blame them.

I've even had one lady who thought the WiiU was just the Wii but with HDMI slots.

Oh I'm not blaming anyone, there was hardly a push for the Wii U when it was released. I walked into a JB Hi-Fi and was like "Oh it's out?".

Calling it Wii U is probably the dumbest business decision in the history of the planet. An American highschooler would do better as CEO right now.

I'm just saying that every Nintendo handheld platform has sold way better in NA than anywhere else, while now Japan is twice as much as NA with the 3DS. This points to NoA and NoE fucking up really bad.

I'm not even complaining about how high the numbers are, just how weird they are skewed.

Pretty poor.

Only a substantial price drop combined with a healthy release schedule will help reverse the Wii u fortunes.

They shipped the most in Japan, yet they will give up on Japan and only focus on NA...?

retailers in Europe have already been doing that and it's done fuck all.

the thing needs games. lots of them. and a price drop. and better marketing.

Yeah pretty bad...wonder if COD: Ghosts will do any good as Black Ops 2 did terrible numbers. Personally I play it from time to time...main New Super Mario Bros. U and also just started playing Pikmin 3.

Your thoughts on this one?

Will Nintendo fans support COD: Ghosts on Wii U?

I doubt it in all honesty. I have a feeling they are going to disregard Ghosts also. I don't see how they will flock to this one, yet ignore COD: BO2.

Wii U really needs an immense price drop, more high profile games and MUCH better marketing. The system has not been advertised since November/December 2012. That is absolutely inexcusable. It's like they are not even trying or care about the console. The problem is, besides exclusive Nintendo games, they are not giving gamers any reason to procure a Wii U over an X360 or PS3 with cheaper prices and a much bigger library of games.

El Capitan Todd
It was quite abvious, considering that they weren't unable to sell the initial shipments.
With no price cut, no promotion and no significant releases (even first party, considering how Pikmin is a July release) they were almost hiding the product waiting for a possible (not probable imho) relaunch with the new releases

I agree this is truly a Saturn level disaster, and although I'm extremely skeptical of its chances of becoming a success in North America, I think it is the only market where Nintendo will attempt to give it a push.

Out of interest could Nintendo survive the WiiU dying? I'm sure they made a hefty profit on the Wii and DS, so could they afford to drop it and start again?

It will take an effort never seen before if Nintendo wants to meet their projections. They would have to stage the greatest comeback in consumer electronics history. Good lord this holiday will probably be the most important holiday in Nintendo history. I've never seen a console launch so poorly.

None of this is good.

But their performance in the Americas is the real shocker.

Historically their largest markets by far.
The only thing that can happen when you shun the "core" Nintendo fans AND general gamers generation after generation in favor of a casual audience that doesn't give a crap about videogames.
