I greenlighted it and added it to my Collection of games known as "Come to Vita"

Going to download now. I'm very particular about my TD games but I'll give it a go.

Its a rather different TD game in its approach to level design. You cant brute force it and some levels have a very puzzle like nature to it. I hope you like it nonetheless, but feel free to post some disagreeing opinions here as well.

Just tried it. Love the graphic style, reminds me off Monaco. Had to try the first level of the game 3 times to understand what I needed to do.

Isn't there already a TD game-series on iOS and Android called Sentinel?
Hope there is no problem with copyrights etc.

Sentsentsentsentsentsent.

All of you guys received the $1 gift, meaning once the game releases on other platforms, you will be informed via Mail that your IGS wallet now also carries the game key for that platform.

Yeah Sentinel 1, 2 and 3.

3 is actually on greenlight too and is excellent (I recommend a vote).

But I don't see a big deal with the name conflict. It is pretty generic to begin with.

That is a bit annoying, but I doubt that a random TD game on iOS copyrighted their name.

Yeah you wouldn't think so.

Mind you these are the guys working with Chris Sawyer on the Transport Tycoon port. He has been around the tracks once or twice with this sort of thing.

Thanks fellow GAFfer Toma, downloading it now, will reply back later today, as soon as possible

I also voted on Greenlight, hope it can be there too.

True. Considering how fragile the reputation of the smaller Indies is, that could be quite a blow to his Greenlight aspirations. Not much we can do about that for now though. Oh well!

Toma

But there's already a Sentinel Tower Defense game, and it's better.

http://www.origin8.com/sentinel3/

You played both? Because I know which game has the better OST at least :p
And other than that, its really not quite easy to compare this game to other TD games because of its high focus on perfecting the levels, which is more a puzzle than usual TD/tower rush gameplay (as in the strongest towers are NOT always the best choices and can fuck up a level for you), which makes the Sentinel game you are seeing here seem more special to me than a standard variant in the genre.

But I should check out the other Sentinel series, they seem to be good games too.

Oh and all you guys receiving the game, remember to also give the game a thumbs up on Greenlight if you like it and if you want the Steam keys.

Random aside: if IndieGameStand would count gifts together, I'd be top contributor for Sentinel atm. :p

Really a shame it doesnt. I might have a good chance grabbing that shirt this time.

I've written up a bit of a mini-review/shout out for my blog but here are some thoughts:

I've played for just under two hours, so certainly got my money's worth. In short, I think it is a high quality title. The interface, whilst at first confusing, makes sense after only one terrible first attempt. The constant juggling of power, tower types, enemy spawn points and light collecting is certainly frantic and keeps you on your toes for the whole wave.

On the other hand, this is why it isn't going to be for me. For tower defense games, I'm very much from the "set things up and see how you do with trial and error" school. It isn't a fault of the game, just a stylistic choice. I could really see fans of the constant fiddling get into it and produce some pretty amazing WTF? type videos on youtube as they zone in and perfect it.

Still, for the $1? It is an easy pickup. As mentioned the presentation is great and the OST seems to be really good. Granted I don't know enough about the music style to say much either way but it fits perfectly with the art-style and pace of the game.

So I think whilst it is probably not for everybody long term, it is more than good enough for everybody to give it a really good try.

Yep, its definitely not as hands off as other games in the genre, which is why I said its hard to directly compare it to another TD game. However, I DO believe that this is a game that more people would be loving if they just gave it a try, even if it might not be for everyone.

Thanks for checking it out Todd :) Glad you enjoyed this TD variant at least a bit. Btw, whats the blog link?

Looks neat, I might grab it when I get home. Good music is always a huge plus in my book.

Yep, I also wouldnt mind more good music games in general. I recently got a wild longing to boot up my PS2 for Amplitude/Frequency.

gah. This sucks. I thought I had until the end of today to get the Soulcaster IndieGameStand deal, really wanted that bonus content copy of Escape Goat. I wish they would drop the price on their regular deal where you can get the previous/current/future deals for $10. At the least, let me buy the previous deal alone at double or even triple the average price. IndieGameStand is fantastic otherwise.

Well I think the 90 hours, or whatever it is, time period is rather decent, but yeah sucks that you missed a deal you wanted. OT, but Soulcaster II is a good game?

I have yet to play it myself personally, but I heard nothing but decent comments about it from everyone I knew who bought it on the XBLIG Marketplace. It looked like a Gauntlet tower defense game with RPG elements, which absolutely appealed to my sensibilities. Plus it included Escape Goat.

Yeah Soulcaster II is great I played it a lot last year. It must have been in some bundle because I have it favorited in Desura.

Thanks for the recommendation on Sentinel. Picked it up and looking forward to playing it.

Everytime I see a game called Sentinel I get excited and think its going to be a remake of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sentinel_(video_game)

One day...

Picked Sentinel (with soundtrack), downloading. The demo intrigued me but was night unplayable due to it being on a small window, non-stretched.

Yeah, the browser game version isnt doing the game justice. This game in fullscreen can look really mesmerizing and pretty. Add that to wearing headphones while playing it and you can easily lose yourself in a level.

Thanks to Toma, I've been able to play Sentinel for somewhat more than an hour now.

My impression of Sentinel is that it's by far worth its money. It's a TD-game with a twist. Just like almost every other game in its genre, you'll have to place your defenses next to the road that leads to your stronghold, castle or in this case your system.

An extra degree of difficulty is added by letting the player himself juggle with the power supply of these defenses. The more powerbars these individual defense systems have, the more powerful they are. Keep an eye on the other roads though, as I tended to suffer from an extreme case of tunnelvision. The lack of overview immediately hurt me a wave later, as I also forgot to collect the resources that randomly flew on the field.

Music is a big thing in Sentinel and makes the game a must-have for house/trance aficionados. The OST (including 16 songs) on itself is amazing and in combination with the gameplay it creates a great setting that I've yet to see in a similar game.

Thanks again Toma! Get the game here (Pay what you want), and don't forget to Greenlight it here.

Well one gift was certainly received by the right person :p I hope the game isnt too hard for you and you can keep playing it. I still eventually want to finish it, but I have no hopes of doing that alone and might need some help on the later levels.

Oh btw, what also helps immensely with levels are 2 things:
1. Pausing the game to think over the next few enemy waves that you see in the left screen AND to pick up any resources. This sounds like a small thing, but this can sometimes give you a valuable 3-4 seconds head start on a wave.

2. If you feel like you are truly stuck on a level, write down the complete wave distribution during a level and go from there. Try to 100% your first wave to see what works and make a screenshot if you finally had a tower layout that worked. If you have the first wave down, try the same with the second, etc.

Looks like it would be a perfect fit on iOS.

Not sure I agree. The game requires fast and precise adjustments and quick reflexes while you shouldnt lose focus of the rest of the screen. Having a hand on top of the screen plus difficulties to choose precise energy levels could get frustrating very quickly.
