Capcom's Deep Down (PS4) is an online game, TGS debut [Reading-RPG, online required]

I find it funny when some people believe that the game will now look like that. Obviously taken from some super old and early footage.

older then the feb reveal? yeah, that sounds reasonable

Deep down, you all knew this game was going to be disappointing.

Seriously though, what's going on Capcom? Why'd you go and try to pass one over on us with that trailer in February, only to show off this nonsense now? You saw how that turned out for Sony in 2006 right?

GAWD! I laugh out loud every time I see your avatar! :D

Though those flashed screens are not all that impressive, I will reserve judgment for now. I have a feeling this game will truly impress when released.

People seem to have already gone into spin mode to convince themselves that bs target render was real
That teaser really does nothing to dissprove it. Most of what they show isn't even visible without a pause. A lot of placeholders obviously.

I'm still in wait and see mode but there's some questions to be answered.

I find it funny that Capcom showed this junk to people, whether or not it's indicative of the actual quality of the game or not.

I'm really hyped for this but only because Dragon's Dogma was so awesome. I guess it being online explains why it's not just Dragon's Dogma 2. I wonder if it's just Dragon's Dogma but with other people instead of pawns. That would be awesome. Or maybe other people and their pawns. Basically it need to be be some form of Dragon's Dogma to maintain my hype. Having the epic battles with other players would be awesome.

Yep, this is what I'm hoping for. Hoping the previous "this has nothing to do with Dragon's Dogma" comments was just Capcom's way of saying "this is an entirely new kind of experience". Hoping for a cross between DD, Monster Hunter, and Dark Souls. Really hope it's not an MMO...

What a huge letdown this would be if it ends up an MMO. I really thought Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls might show people a better way to do multiplayer in these sorts of games, but it looks like that might not be the case.

Wait, what? Care to explain?

No seriously I am intrigued why it hasn't been announced for XB1 yet.

The only fact in my post is: "It hasn't been announced for XBONE yet." Everything else is a joke or speculation.

But if you care to know the reason behind my theory, it is because Microsoft doesn't (or at least didn't for the Xbox 360) generally allow online games to share servers with PC or other consoles (that is basically why FFXIV isn't being released on Microsoft systems). If Deep Down is an MMO and Capcom wants everyone to play on the same servers, then they would have two options: 1) not release on XBONE 2) release on it, but make its servers separate.

I emphasize again, that is all hypothetical. We don't even know what Deep Down is, except for it requiring an internet connection.

Still without luck
Just saw this news.

My interest in this game dropped to zero incredibly quickly. Bleh online. No thanks.

Still super-hyped for it. No reason to think it won't be every bit of the epic fantasy brilliance that we expect after Dragon's Dogma. I don't have a problem with the online portion either. I expect it to work as the Souls games and/or DD where should your internet cut out you can still play, just not access pawns or other players and their messages, etc. Can't wait to see a proper TGS reveal!!

The odd thing is that MS were open to cross platform play when this generation started. Shadowrun, for example, is the perfect example of how well it works...

Yeah. I see no visual downgrade at all.

yep. my heart is broken. it went from a gorgeously intimate dungeon crawling fantasy game to what looks like a "these are the best graphics we can get doing an mmo" game.

i guess i'll wait to be more sad come TGS. as this was my most excited for game.

Ghad dayum, looks like the iPad port of the original trailer. Makes KZ reveal look like a 1:1 carbon copy by comparison.

Well, that makes 2 online heavy games for the PS4. In the end it's up to the publishers right? Everyone was comfortable with that response, so why are people getting angry that devs are making online only games?

This was technically on the site, but since some people might have missed it I updated the title/OP:

Siliconera said:
Capcom is about to reveal more about deep down, a PlayStation 4 game first teased during Sony’s hardware reveal. deep down is being developed by Capcom Online Games and as expected is an online enabled RPG that supports a large number of players. The game’s genre is a “memory reading RPG” or “reading RPG” as see in katakana. The teaser site also mentions deep down requires an internet connection and is an online exclusive similar to Dragon’s Dogma Quest.

I don't mind this unless it ends up being a MP only game. I want a decent SP campaign along with this.

Also from the tech demo, the magic of the dragon fire
