Capcom's Deep Down (PS4) is an online game, TGS debut [Reading-RPG, online required]

That looked nothing like what they showed at Sony's event.

The monster designs also look lame as hell, regardless of visual quality. That blue thing just looks laughable.

Do you remember their reveal showing?

Perfectly. Nothing misleading. People misled themselves if they took anything away from it other than "PS4 game on new Panta Rhei engine."

Hell, the presentation even hinted that the game was online with Yoshi/Blanka's little message about cooperating on the game.

The graphics are a deep downgrade(no pun intended) but maybe the game is still interesting. I want to see gameplay first to pass judgement. Sorry for the guys who believed that the February CG trailer was real.

Exactly. I don't know why people are so surprised by the online announcement. It was hinted at back in February.

I believe the problem is the huge graphical difference, like it doesn't even look like they tried to come close to the reveal. I say give them time though...

The graphics looks nowhere like in the first reveal. Monster art style is also very mediocre.

You appreciate the irony in saying this, yes? People shouldn't believe anything about a game until they've seen it played but apparently you're ready to believe there's a downgrade based on this teaser with no evidence of anyone actually playing it. OK!

Ha ha!! Touché

There is a huge graphical difference in ANY compressed, low resolution video compared to a less compressed, higher resolution video. Why is this so hard to grasp?

I'd wait until we get better footage before jumping the gun and calling apocalypse.

Well I did love Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. As long as the gameplay is legit, if it's like that but with human players instead of pawns, I think it could be awesome. If it's more like an MMO or something, will be disappointed, unless there is instanced dungeons and of the same quality as Dark Arisen.

If they do it like Dark Souls, all the better. Just use the stones you normally used for Pawns, to find players online. Would be best way to do it IMO.

Trailer looks far off the initial render though, I know it's still early, and I'm okay as long as the gameplay is legit, but it doesn't look next-gen at all so far. I will give them the benefit of the doubt to use TGS as a grander reveal though.

Can you imagine Bitterblack Isle with a mate or two and their pawns? They could limit to one pawn per person. Or maybe do away with the pawns all together. Would there be any need for them? I dunno, I kinda liked the pawns. Torn...

I'd be in the dick
I'm going to wait until we get some real footage to determine if the visuals have been downgraded. The tech presentation the other day made it sound like the game was well within the PS4's reach.

Exactly. I don't know why people are so surprised by the online announcement. It was hinted at back in February.
People are just surprised that this may be an MMO instead of a game with an optional online component.

Online? I hope I can do single player without being bothered by online shit.

Also the game looks first person which is lame.

Yeah pawns were cool, might be cool to have a mix of players and pawns.

This a million times. People here are freaking out over nothing. Let's wait until TGS and see a true reveal.

Short Theory: Two points why the new trailer could show a different game, than the "Deep Down" they showed us at the PS4 reveal.

1. Tweet from Yoshinori Ono during E3:
Blanka visiting to SCEA booth. deep down couldn't set public playable on E3 in this time. It will be next time...
https://twitter.com/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/344935203980066816

So a few weeks ago he said that Deep Down will be playable next E3. According to Kotaku and the OP, it will be already playable this TGS... Wouldn´t he have said/known that back at E3, if it would be the same game?

2. Do you remember Yoshinori Onos tweet about playing deep down on PS4?
I played deep down (working title) on PS4 with Blanka. ;D
https://twitter.com/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/314978819545133056

He said "Working Title" back then... So could it be that the game they showed us at the PS4 reveal will have a different name (e.g. Dragons Dogma 2...)?

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
So, a first trailer, an engine demo of one room, and now this is what the game looks like... Well, I can't say much as the trailer goes out of the way to hide what the visuals really look like with video processing and all, but still it really leaves much worse impression.

But regardless, this being online/monsterhunter type of game makes my interest drop to near 0.

Looks like a downgrade visually. Can't say I'm surprised, they weren't fooling anybody with their BS 'HUD' in the reveal trailer.

Yeah but I think they should keep the small adventuring party setup so keep it down to around five or six in a party. If you add in some pawns that leaves only two or three spaces for human players. I guess that could work...

From the whole three seconds of footage I saw, it's pretty much impossible to fairly compare it to the initial reveal. I'm honestly more surprised that they decided to stick with the title "deep down."

I think he means either pawns or players if you choose not to play with people.

I'm hoping this game is dragons dogma with co-op or a dark souls type of game. Please deliver capcpom

Oh right. But I would still want to play with my main pawn even though I may be playing with other people. Not sure how this would work. I really like the two-person dynamic in the game, having you and your pawn as a two person operation.

PS2 version confirmed!
I find it funny when some people believe that the game will now look like that. Obviously taken from some super old and early footage.

Oh it is, is it? Why release this now after we've already seen the incredible reveal trailer then? Surely this footage wouldn't be older?

Capcom Exec1: "People complained Dragon's Dogma had no multiplayer."

Capcom Exec2: "Dragon's Dogma 2 is an MMORPG. Problem solved."

It being an MMO also could explain why it hasn't been announced for the XBONE yet, if Capcom wanted everyone to play in the same servers.
