The thing that worries me about dark souls is that i don't think namco cares to update the game to steamworks and From cares less now that they have DS2 on the horizon.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
gfwl is at least better than origin and uplay. But that's really just comparing different piles of crap to each other.

In what ways is GFWL superior to Origin and Uplay if your primary concern is playing PC games? Show your work.

Unless of course you're taking GFWL as it exists right now -- a ghost town on the outskirts of Chernobyl, primed and ready to have a shitty horror movie made about it.

Thanks for the clarifications to the earlier list, I'll edit stuff in.

Non-GFWL games that do not appear to exist digitally on Steam or Amazon or GameStop
A Vampyre Story - not on Steam, retail-only on Amazon
Cubis Gold - Cubis Gold 2 is on Amazon, but not the original
Flight Simulator X - Amazon, retail-only, no digital
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - Amazon has it retail-only, no other digital outlets I can find
Zoo Tycoon 2 - Retail-only on Amazon

This may be your last chance to buy these games digitally.

I found this in the Steam registry a while back. I wonder when we'll see it hit.

Purchasable on Steam, but requires GFWL for activation, so will die if GFWL dies and are not patched

These are the ones that concern me, I have more than a few games here (some on disc) that it would piss me off having to buy again.

Of course, the 2 games getting patched (BioShock 2 and Batman AC) are games that I didn't buy on Steam anyway. Go figure.

Also, GFWL is the only remaining place to buy DLC for Batman AC separately. Anyone who bought the base game before the GOTY edition and wants the DLC will have no choice but to buy the whole game again.

What a mess.

Hopefully we see Steam versions of those games, along with the Halo Trilogy release.

I don't see how it ever could have been something cool. They were trying to charge for multiplayer on day one.

I think they were only charging for matchmaking for Xbox Live specific features... straight up multiplayer was free from what I remember.

But yeah, it was horribly implemented. It should have been a OS wide thing, where you had a universal friends list/dash board experience and not just have it pop up when you launch a game. The GFWL experience wasn't too different than Xbox Live on the original Xbox.

I'll take it! This is happening, all of my eggs are in one basket for this one.

AA/AC are also getting their mac versions added to the store as well with full Steamplay.

If AA Mac port is coming to Steam, I wish they would add the Joker and Prey from the Darkness DLC that was added to Mac version to Windows version.

Rebuying is a super pain in the ass, but I think AA+AC have been as low as 7.50 combined on sale so if anyone was prospectively interested in the DLC at 9.99+, then rebuying the game + DLC is probably going to be "free" as long as you wait for a sale.

Dark Souls PC better not break from this.

Almost certainly not immediately, but some day they will pull the plug and that day will be earlier than Valve does, so it's definitely in the risk category

Do we know what the exchange rate for allards will be? I've still got 500 points left on my account to spend. It'd be pretty sweet if I can buy a copy of Minerva's Den on GFWL and then register that serial on Steam before the service goes down but I suspect one will come first.

If they did they'd probably have a boycott/pirate Dark Souls II petition on their hands from outraged PC fans.

I prefer it since I can use my existing xbox live ID, Origin and Uplay require yet another account to maintain. Granted if you have never had a xbox or live ID that isn't a real benefit. I also trust Microsoft to maintain security for my account of Ubi or EA.

I don't think it comes with a serial. You have to use the silly marketplace program to download it.

According to Steam support site, you can add Bioshock 2 CD keys to Steam, has anyone who bought BS2 on disc managed to test this? Or is this just specific to Bioshock 2 steam keys?

Pretty much this. The poison MS has released is finally dissipating.

It does not seem likely that you'll be able to cross-register so I wouldn't try to game the system that way.

I can't break NDA (I am in the beta) by saying what the exchange rate was in Canada (where I live), but hypothetically if someone had 6720 msp Canadian before-hand, they now have $97 Canadian based on things I've hypothetically heard. So hypothetically that'd be the hypothetical exchange rate that a Canadian would expect. Yep.

nooo, how will I buy Viva Piñata now?!

I think it was over a year ago or so they had piñata and next day like Age of empires 3 on sale for one penny each or 10 cents I forget. I bought both never played either since purchase.

GFWL still interferes with my login of GTAIV thru steam. hate it.

So I have almost 580 points on my account. Do the points disappear from my account as well or just the GFW store closing?

The DLC implementation for Mass Effect 1-3/ Dragon Age 1/2 is beyond terrible.

I haven't bought those yet
plz to be coming to Origin Humble Bundle
to know on that front. But my purchases of Battlefield/Mirror's Edge have had no issues.

Anyway, I hope Steam does a sale on GfWL titles so I can get LP1:Colonies and LP2, Bio5 and DR2:OTR cheap to replace my console copies. >_> Then hopefully Capcom patches them to not require GfWL activation.

Points won't disappear until MS changes them to cash money and then you have a year to spend those on the X-box store before they poof.

A Vampyre Story is on GamersGate (but not Steam, Amazon, or GameStop) so I scratched it out in the list in post #100 of non-GFWL games that are no longer available digitally as of next week.

Does that mean I can buy Gears of War in Steam at some point?

If Microsoft releases Gears of War on Steam, you can buy Gears of War on Steam. And it'll work until the GFWL activation servers go down, unless Microsoft patches it not to require the GFWL activation servers.

you get cash equivalent which can be used in W8 or on Xbox 360/Xbox One/WP marketplaces

Sorry, I can't accept the xbox live ID answer under the terms I outlined.

The security point is kind of interesting, as all three have been subject to hacks and data breaches. I guess it's entirely subjective if you trust that information with Microsoft, but I don't think they're inherently better than their competition.

I guess we're just lucky that GFWL is so unpopular no one has attempted to use it as an attack vector.

Of course they have successfully used Xbox Live as an attack vector many many times and no one seems to actually have an explanation for how--was it EA's fault? Was it MS's? Was it someone being phished? No one knows.

I wonder if MS is doing anything to aid publishers to move their titles from GFWL. If they killed the platform, instantly rendering many games unplayable without some kind of plan to lessen the impact on publishers, I'd imagine it would be publisher relationship nightmare.

:lol Why? Dark Souls 2 is using Steamworks Oh noes, my first one doesn't work anymore? *yawn and play DS2 on Steam?*

I think the harm is mitigated by the fact that titles that are not selling anymore are typically routinely abandoned by publishers (IE not updated for Windows 7 support, etc), while titles that are still selling typically would recoup the costs of paying an outsourcing company or striking up a team to work to patch out the GFWL and ideally in Steamworks.

When was that confirmed?

When they dropped GfWL off the page? There's no mention of GfWL anywhere on DS2. Plus they already know people hate the GfWL implementation in DS1 and are working PC first over the console versions right now.

From got the point from PC people. I'd be honestly surprised if they're still using GfWL for the matchmaking code.

Unfortunately, I can't picture a scenario where Dark Souls is updated even though the game still sells relatively well.

Of course it won't have GFWL, but that doesn't necessarily mean Steamworks (even though it's very likely).

I'm not getting my hopes up until it's official.

I think a recent example would be Trenched. It's locked down by contractual obligations to GFWL. Double Fine would love to put it on Steamworks I bet, and probably see some sales to make it worth their while. The reasonable thing would be for Microsoft to cut the game free.

The real trouble is that it's not like DF owns Trenched/Iron Brigade and just has some sort of temporary contractual obligation to MS for distribution--MS owns the IP entirely, DF was just a developer-for-hire. So it's not like some clause is going to expire. Someone at MS has to actively say "Port this game".

The game's website doesn't feature a PC logo. It uses the Steam logo.

GFWL! (which if you say it fast sounds like awful)

It was really fun getting 45 minutes of errors when trying to log in to play GTA IV the first time:

-You are already logged in as another user!
-This password is not valid for this user!
-Please wait for an email to be sent to reset your password!

I press start to play the game. GTA IV takes me to the game main menu.

That being said, Dark Souls and Bulletstorm start automatically just fine, but I will probably be in trouble if they reset my password or clear my username.

Namco should also patch in Steamworks support for the first Dark Souls.
I would buy this, though I have already beaten it on ps3.

And if they patched in DSfix.. :O

I love the Souls games so, so much. Dark Souls II on ps3/Steam (will buy both!) and the rumored Demon's Souls II on ps4? Want!

There are actually two versions of Lost Planet 1

One is Steamworks, and the other is GFWL.

I didn't know. Which one is Steamworks?

You gotta play Russian Roulette to find out which one is GFWL ;)

Lost Planet Extreme Condition is Steamworks, and Colonies Edition is GFWL

Dark Souls II is looking amazing from a PC standpoint.

PC lead platform, dropping GFWL in favor of Steamworks, dedicated servers. My card monies are ready for day 1.

I won't even wait for a GMG coupon. Just put the page up on Steam and let me buy it.
