OMFG!

I don't know, I've never seen the numbers of consoles sold there. I was under the impression that most of the Russian and Eastern European markets were dominated by PC. And Western Europe is "Sonyland", right?
I was looking at the revenue figures, you could be right and much of that could be PC. But then the German market is also heavily PC focused.

By the rationale of avoiding Sonyland, they may as well not launch in Spain then, and redirect supply to the UK and others, as from what I recall it's also very lopsided and the market isn't that big relative to the other European major markets. Although I could be recalling incorrectly. But if they had the supply it would make much more sense to try and compete in those areas (likewise Sony should aim to prioritise the UK and US, while still trying to maintain dominance in continental Europe.)

No two cboat posts read alike.

I don't know how much you know about investigative linguistics (I'm an expert), but vocabulary and sentence structure are huge parts of it. It's not like forging a signature, where you can avoid cross reference-sourcing by deliberately writing differently all the time.

Kinect-less SKU might get me to buy the machine eventually. There's going to be a bunch of pissed off people, but it's a good business move. They may even be able to undercut Sony on price as the box + controller should carry a lower BOM than PS4.

That thread is insane. lol

I can't believe how much people bitch that they are "forced" to pay $100 for an impressive piece of tech like the Kinect 2.0. When this thing is sold separately for PC's they are going to charge over $300 for the thing. It does a lot of shit. It ain't like they are gouging.

Sure if you don't want it then whatever I get that part. And as a gadget nerd maybe I'm just blinded by anything this technically impressive. But seriously the first time I watched the behind closed doors of the kinect demo I was like "yeah gettin' that".

Let the 4 of my buddies at the firehouse who are buying XB1s that there is likely to be a version without Kinect early next year according to a reliable insider online. All 4 are cancelling their pre-order to wait for a $300-$350 version without a K2 now. For $300, I'll probably even pick one up.

I just cancelled mine also. I pre ordered last week after they made Kinect not necessary to pug in. When you think about it, everything makes sense. Why did MS suddenly make Kinect optional to plug in? "Whispers of non-Kinect model". I was fine buying a Kinect included model at launch, but if they aren't going to support it through the X1's lifetime, then I'm out.

Wow, this post has declined into a Sony loyalist party clubbing the pro-xbox one posts with downvoting. .... anyway XboxOneDev's reply is much appreciated although a bit glossy but I suppose he's not in a position to release anything substantial, a response from the major would be good but then he's in PR so no-one will listen to him either..... Let's hope gamescom clears some of this up!

I've probably already been downvoted -.-

Man, I saw this thread when it had about 3 pages earlier today - insane how much it's blown up

My opinion doesn't really matter, but here it is anyways. I think Microsoft is making a bad move making a Kinectless SKU. Yes, I agree, the mandatory Kinect is dumb; but ensuring it was included meant that developers could guarantee that every xboner would have a Kinect. Now? The marketplace will be segmented, if this is true. That means no-one will care to develop anything truly exceptional for Kinect, which is a little sad considering how awesome the technology actually is in that thing.

Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Somebody's being too serious, alright.

How long has this bible/GAF crossover been a thing? Is it recent or has it been around a while?

I ask because I hadn't seen it until recently (and I wrote a CBOAT-related "Book of GAF" post a few days back that I thought was all original and shit).

If there was a kinectless sku in the works, the developers must be told so asap so Kinect is treated as an optional peripheral.

That's a double edged sword. If the SKU sans Kinect 2 was planned for sometime later than launch, then that would risk the information getting out and could negatively affect sales(potentially a big impact) at launch, with the K2 packed in. It looks pretty bad for the image of a console to have units on shelves at launch.

Pretty sure it started on like page 42 of this thread lol.

It thought the point of not region locking was not having exclusive games for region x?

(lack of) region locking is so that if you want to play a game that was only released in territories other than yours, and you have a legal means of obtaining a copy, there's no technical limitation keeping you from playing that software.

now, the game might only have a foreign language, and you won't be able to read anything or understand what people are saying, but you're more than welcome to try playing it anyway.

releasing a game in just one territory is due to budget constraints as well as what the target market is. the publisher might not have the money to pay for localization to other territories, so they just release in the one it was created in.

I don't get the reasoning for Kinectless SKU rather than just making it optional. Surely it can only because they are super worried about price?

I know where you're coming from. However, this MS sticking to their guns (as longs a it can, that is) to see if the R&D invested on Kinect will pay off. The ONLY thing that will assure them they made a mistake and that there's no real, concrete future for sensory technology, is to see: 1) how many people are UNWILLING to pay an extra $100 for Kinect (and thus, the Xbox One) and 2) how many games TRULY take advantage of the Kinect sold to the customer who both pre-ordered and chose the Xbox One at the $499 premium post-launch.

Only then it will make sense for Kinect to be dropped. So, I don't think you should fault them for waiting and seeing to see if something good comes out of it. If worst comes to worst, then it wouldn't really make sense to over-price your competition with a device that both the consumers AND developers see little benefit with.

And that, my friend, is #truthfact.

Thanks, I only play Nintendo and PC, so I really dont get region locking, thanks for clarifying it.

Makes some more sense now

On another note, MS looks screwed.

Platinum is big in Japan? Still think MS need some huge and interesting RPG, not action game, if they want to "try" to be relevant in Japan.

I don't think I like the kinectless sku idea. It feels like Microsoft is compromising their vision....and what made this console unique.

I think I need to go SSJ9001 in order to appropriately laugh at this fine, like aged-wine-JIF image.
PS: if you rage because I said "JIF" add your tears to my jacuzzi. It's how I stay youthful.
I actually find SPELLING it JIF far more offensive than pronouncing it that way. It's like if you insisted on spelling tomahto instead of tomato, you're just making yourself look like an ass.

It's weird how much more convincing CBOAT is as an insider than Reddits "CONFIRMED XBONE DEV", who I always imagine as some associate / junior QA who really knows fuck all about what is going on.

Plus, it's pronounced Gif, not Jif. When you wrap up a present and hand it to someone, do you say "Here's your birthday jift"?

Psh.

Gamestop/Microsoft recently announced a special program where you can trade in your 360 versions of particular games, and get $50 credit towards the XB1 version. One of those games is Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Why would Microsoft ever create such a program if the XB1 was going to be out anywhere near the launch of Ghosts, on Nov 5th?

This program existing makes me think the earliest we're gonna see the XB1 is mid November.

I don't think that necessarily means an early November launch, they are just trying to get you to purchase the 360 version first and afterwards the xbone... MS also announced that season passes for games that come out on both will carry over, meaning a season pass purchase grants you DLC for both versions.

i know a handful of people that import a ton of japanese games and are able to understand at least the text on the screen. REALLY obscure games, but they like it and they're able to understand them. wish i had that talent!

but yeah, i think with digital becoming the slowly-but-surely future of our means of getting games, it's going to be a weird situation, where certain things only come out on certain region's app stores due to not having native language support. indies are going to be affected more because as helpful as the platform-holders are going to be with getting their game out, they aren't going to foot the bill for numerous localization efforts. some games will just have to either be in english or only release in their own territory.

True, but how would you feel as a developer if your game turns out to be unplayable on a console sku released 6 months later? It would turn into an ass storm!

I don't get the point of moneyhatting games for Japan. Even if they threw hundreds of millions at games, the amount they'd lock down as exclusive would still pale in comparison to the amount going to the competition by default.

All it does is prevent any strong home console ecosystem from developing in Japan, effecting sales for developers across the board, while gaining Microsoft almost nothing of significant value.

It's as folly as Windows 8 trying to supplant iOS and Android.

And Thomas the doubter said,

'But CBOAT, why have you brought us such news so close to its implementation?'

And the other disciples were silent, and they reflected on the thought. And CBOAT said,

'no trst I'm the dued. Itz and truthfacts is still portnt but u NO.'

And they knew that the time of the Lord was at hand."
