'Pokkén Fighters', 'Pokkén Tournament' trademarks filled by The Pokémon Company

It's a shame as the Wii U would be perfect with using the 2nd screen as a camera.

Truth be told, it's been perfect ever since DS and its two screens. Then came Wii with motion controls and more free movement. Then it became even perfecter with DSi having a camera. 3DS mixed a second screen with a 3D camera and motion controls -- Wii U allowed for more freedom on the second screen...

It's not even funny that there haven't been like two Snap sequels all these years.

I just woke up to this news so I'm a bit late but...

OH MY GOOOOOOOODDDDDD DO WANT. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S...

Man I can't imagine the fighting game tiers if they apply typing and abilities.

Heh, suddenly Smogon's OU and stuff would appear there.

It's probably because the general appeal of Snap can be done with Pokemon 3D Dex.

Yep, no way will they leave out so many moves.

because its got 'ken' on the end doesnt mean its gonna be a strict tekken clone

I hope so. I see Marvel or Injustice or hell even Type Wild than Tekken or Soul Calibur in a fighting game.

With that said I really hope CC2 doesn't do this.

I honestly have a hard time seeing the SC and Tekken engines fitting for a Pokemon game, if only because a lot of Pokemon stuff involve firing lasers, creating energy waves, and all that shit.

Some of the Tekken characters have lasers. Well, at least one character does.

It's true that a modern Pokémon Snap wouldn't be as interesting, and a more high-speed rail shooter like Sin and Punishment wouldn't work so well. That said, it doesn't have to be a rail shooter. Adding a few stealth elements here and there and making it an interactive third-person action game would have lots of appeal. It's not just seeing models of Pokémon, but also enjoying the process of taking their pictures in their natural environment.

It doesn't matter. Blaziken destroys all of them with SkyUppercut.

I'm disappointed this isn't a 3d adventure, but that was out of the cards anyways.

This would be pretty wicked. Obviously Nintendo are the only company having notable success in the fighting genre sales wise these days, so I could see this being a monster. The gif is fantastic.

If Harada (or any of his subordinates) is at all involved, I wouldn't be surprised if this is an entirely different type of game. There's been hints that they've been wanting to do something different from Tekken for a couple of years now, but no real opportunities to do so (and TxSF is still on the backburner).

Besides, as said before, you're not going to have a game starring PKMN, who have some of the most over-the-top abilities among all video game characters, and have people content with a game that doesn't play up at least half of their moveset repertoire.

Eh Tekken Tag 2 is pretty fast, at least for me.

dont get me wrong, i like tekken but its a wooden fighter compared to SF/KOF/MvC/SSB

The characters in tekken cant jump for a start, pokemon are meant to be fast, it would look and feel stupid having the same mechanics as tekken

Yoshimitsu can jump quite fine.

While this could be cool, I'm sure it's an arcade based game that will never make it to the west.

Looking at the Japanese trademark registration...it does specify 遊園地用機械器具 (amusement park machinery). Sounds like a registration for an arcade game to me.

Now having said that, they wouldn't be registering a trademarks in the US if they didn't expect to bring it overseas. It's not as if it's uncommon for arcade fighting games to receive home console releases either.

the laser eyes from the devils are pointless.

I like Jack and the animals, they add variation to a list of boring characters

Lazer eyes are never pointless. Blasphemy. Cyclops would be ashamed of you.

Eh,I feel Street fighter 4 is a bad example, due to its most recent itteration being notably slower than the rest of the series and a notably slow fighting game in general. And people enjoying it more because of that. And I play the rest the games mentioned. Tekken isnt the fastest fighting game in the world, but tag to isn't really slow. Maybe I am playing it wrong.

cyclops sucks too :P

Never mentioned SF4, but its still much faster paced than tekken.

Maybe 'fast' is wrong word, i guess i think a pokemon game should be more agile than what tekken is.

at the end of the day im gonna buy it no matter what!

I always imagined a Pokemon fighting game to be more like Power Stone. Of course, Capcom can't be half arsed to make games that appeal to their consumers anymore.

Which, funnily enough, the trademarks for various other games, such as ポケモンスクランブル do. It's quite common for, when they do trademarks such as this, they add these things to cover all the bases.

The Pokkén Trademark also lists card games and TV Games. Don't pick and choose what it specifies.

I take it it wouldn't be anything like Dissidia or Smash given the play on its name? I'd be okay with any style of a fighter, the idea reminds me of that fan-made fighting game for Pokemon that stopped getting updates quite some time ago.

You play as the Trainer in Pokémon games, not the Pokémon, so it makes no sense

In Brawl does though

It can easily be justified by the fact that the trainer gives directions about how to fight and use specific moves, like in the anime. After all, in almost every sport there's a trainer that tell the players what to do without the match being turn-based (lol)

CELEBI VS BULBASAUR.

ROUND 1.

Fight !

Arcade is still big in Japan yeah, so it can be a console and arcade game.

And I'm sure Namco would love nothing more than to have another surefire hit for their System 357/369 hardware (as if their overall domination with Tekken and Gundam Vs. isn't enough!).

As long as we're not expected to wait more than 3-6 months for a console port, I'll be fine. And I'm sure The Pokemon Company and Nintendo will be more like Atlus with Persona in that respect.

Oh god think of what they could do with like, full vitality bars. Conkeldurr could pick up those pillars and bash the hell out of his opponents.

Definitely hoping the game will be a full retail release and not just a eshop game. I've been waiting for a Pokemon game to grace the Wii U. (and I'm still holding out for a Battle Revolution/Colosseum like game.

It's true though. They always list off everything. I mean hell, it lists keyrings. It seems totally illogical to just say "oh, it put arcade in the list so it must be arcade".

While it may be an arcade game, saying it is based upon one part of the trademark coverage is just ridiculous, especially as they all do this.

If Regigigas is in, day 1.
It's not like he's doing anything in the main games.

Although playing as hitmontop would be chill as fuck.
EDIT: DLC packs for more pokemon. It would print money.

He would be slow as crap at first.

I think that would actually be a very interesting mechanic to play with. It nearly forces you to go on defense and I don't know of many fighting games that actually do that.

Of course, if they don't balance him right, considering his stats, he could be one of the most OP members of the roster if all you have to do is some successful blocking for 30 seconds.
EDIT: I'd say the other regis as well, but their proportions are really odd, so of the original 3 I only think regirock would work.
