Killzone: Shadow Fall DLC multiplayer maps will be free

There are now eight different rotating mission modes, four of which are new to Killzone: Shadow Fall. The game has three classes with unique abilities and 22 different weapons – all unlocked from the get-go, so you can determine for yourself how and in which order you want to specialize.

We’ve also redesigned our progression system to work with challenges rather than XP. There are over 1500 increasingly difficult challenges to complete in Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to prove your skills and collect rewards. To increase longevity even further, we plan to continue support for the title well after launch – and yes, DLC multiplayer maps will be released free of charge to ensure everyone can play.
So. Fucking. Good.

Huh, I wonder if THIS is what we're getting partially thanks to PSPlus being a pay wall for MP now.

Well, DLC for maps was always shitty for long term support of games and was better for SP stuff that wouldn't fragment user bases, so now I kinda want to get Killzone just because of that. I do expect cosmetic additions to start becoming a big thing though.

All over this game on day 1.

Nailed it.

yo whaaaaaaaaaat

ok I'm gonna have to move this game up on my priority list now

I'm so pleased by this when I saw it at their web page... that and the fact that its 24 players not 8 which after hearing that talk on these forums and then watching the trailer raised my worries of it being only 4 vs 4

I'm almost more excited that the game isn't using a COD-unlock system for weapons and classes than I am about the free DLC.

Are multiplayer shooters finally going to break that trend? I sure fucking hope so.

Finally! No more fragmenting the player base. GG gets it. Fuck yes.

Excellent news but once again I am going to be the negative nancy and say that the user base is already fragmented because of the PS+ paywall. I hope Im wrong.

For me, the duration of the campaign will be absolutely critical in order to buy the game. If it's a proper 9+ hour campaign, I'm there. If it's a gimped one ala killzone 3, basically making you pay 60$ for a game that is for the most part behind a paywall, I shall reconsider and wait for the community to get big.

How? Single player and multiplayer are effectively two different games. Anyone who plays the multi will have all the maps, simple as that.

Not when everyone recognizes that you need plus from the get go and....you know.....it being a great service with their IGC initiative.

Everyone who plays online will have access to everything though. I do see what you are coming from, but it's way better this way.

Good move by Sony.

This will make Shadow Fall more competitive with the big players and may allow the game to have longer legs as a result...

Really hope Shadow Fall takes Killzone to the next level of popularity. If SF delivers, it deserves it.

Yeah but the problem is that Killzone is actually competing with BF 4 and CoD, both games with guaranteed user base, many of whom are used to paying for subscription. Killzone 2 & 3 on the other hand had small communities and fast diminishing communities.

Killzone 3 is brilliant online but they HAD to make the MP free (with a level cap) on the PSN to attract more gamers.

That's got nothing to do with anything.

Fact is Killzone DLC is free. That is better than forcing people to pay because no matter how big the community is, it will fragment with paid maps.

Someone is finally doing it right. DLC should be used to keep people playing and not trading in. Paid DLC just fragments the mp community. This doesn't apply to cod of course.

The free MP maps must be a result of PS+ being a requirement for online Multiplayer; Sony must be throwing some of that cash to Guerilla since they're a 1st-party studio, or at least that's what I see from this. Either way, it's a great way to launch into the next generation! Bravo! :D

I'm going to guess all the DLC maps will be internally developed. I don't see much sense in paying an outside dev in order to outsource some maps if those maps aren't being paid for but I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind seeing an experienced MP map dev like Certain Affinity making extra maps alongside GG.

This is the way it should ALWAYS be. When you have DLC maps that you have to pay for you alienate a large part of your customer base.

That's what happened with Killzone 2.

The DLC was sooooo good in Killzone 2. I miss those maps :(
