Native Twitch support announced for PS4

I guess this means tons of day 1 COD Ghost and BF4 streams from Xbone and PS4. Too bad Capcom isn't porting USF4 to next gen. It would have been fun to stream GAF sessions when someone like Kadey or jlai isn't around.

So glad about this. For the life me I couldn't figure out why it would be on X only. They list tons of "partners" from many companies on their site - SOE being one of them. It seemed bizzarre that they would skip a console centered on streaming.

Smart of Sony to make this deal. Despite any technical concerns, the momentum is clearly behind Twitch in the west over other streaming services for gaming. Had the potential to become a glaring discrepancy over time if they left that box unchecked.

Yeah this is the thing that worries me. Sony has a track record of implementing awesome system level features but leaving it up to developers to actually use them. Reaaaally bad on the PS3, it's a bit better on the Vita although there are still a few games where I'd like to play my own music and it's not allowed. If it really is ubiquitous across the system then we're in for some fun times.

So why is everyone worried about this (join directly into a friend's game)?

This was mandatory for Xbox 360 iirc. Maybe no one used the functionality because there was no video stream to watch, but if your friend was in a joinable match, you could just click their name and select join to launch into their game.

Since this is almost assuredly going to also be mandatory for Xbox
One it should have a very low cost to implement on PS4...it's probably mandatory there too now.

This was great news. I was kind of bummed when they only mentioned Ustream before. Now I'm happy because I have always preferred twitch over Ustream.

It is an OS and PSN level feature, you can also join friends multiplayer games from their profile page. Matching is now done directly from PSN using friends list rather than from in game.

Best first post possible for this thread.

So where does that put UStream? Does that mean the deal is gone?

No, I assume you'll be able to choose between the two. Maybe when you want to broadcast your gameplay you'll have a choice between Ustream and Twitch assuming you have accounts for both set up. With Xbone it will be only Twitch since that's the only streaming company that MS has partnered with.

With the Twitch announcement Ustream will probably be ignored by the vast majority of PS4 owners since Twitch is so popular with gamers, in America anyways.

People at ustream must be bummed.

This could have worked out pretty good for them and a great way to make some headway in the game streaming scene.

This was huge for me. Seriously... Xbox One has nearly ZERO advantages. Below is the only thing on that system I give any kind of shit about. And that will probably be a timed exclusive too...

Sony is literally doing everything right. Every single decision has been reasonable and with clear thought behind it. They have truly learned a lot since 2006.

Not sure what to make of this, initially I was a bit peeved as I recently got a capture card (with HDCP work around) to stream PS4 on twitch, then this happens, and now I am not sure about my purchase.
Well you probably can't stream or record at 1080p from either next gen system, so a HDCP stripper and capture card might still be useful.

So Twitch and Ustream have been confirmed, has there been any mention of YouTube yet? I imagine it'll happen if they want to cover all bases.

I'm so happy about this. Ustream is garbage and the conference today proved it. I tried to use the Ustream app on the Boxee to watch it, nothing, tried on my browser on my iPad to watch it, constant loading symbol. Tried on ie on the Xbox, needed flash, tried on the official Ustream app on the iPad and it said I had to be an adult to watch it. Even though I was signed in with my birth date verified account.

They deserve this.

Twitch's Community Manager was here a few months ago stating they didn't want to do exclusive deals with anyone so I never thought MS had some sort of deal with them.

Pretty sure YouTube was mentioned in one of their press releases back in February.

Thanks, I'd be surprised if it wasn't there as it was available to Devs on the PS3 and as they've got two services running I can't imagine it takes much to add YouTube support.

Sony secured Minecraft and twitch today. also they confirmed that Multimedia apps are NOT behind a paywall.

I also liked PS4 UI, it was simple and fast.

Sony got my money way before announcing PS4. I saw the huge support for PS3 this late. unlike MS who forgot about 360 in 2009 and caught off-guard in 2013 (their X1 failed planning).

Question: Whats happened with this "take over a friends game" feature that cerny was talking about in feb?

Many here might scoff but I think its an amazing feature for casuals. That is the feature my girl is most excited about.

YouTube was confirmed shortly after E3 on Fallon.

It's part of the Gaikai feature set and won't be available at launch.

Why didnt they just announce this at E3? Were they paid to pretend it was exclusive on xbox one?

Anyway, VERY exciting news. Twitch app and streaming, extremely hyped.

It looks like the Assassin's Creed guys possibly used that feature by having the second guy (the Vita guy) take over gameplay.

We don't know if they were using the same account or what, though.
