1. It's bad form to promote one console you're supporting over another as it could potentially damage the sales on the weaker version.
2. It's bad form to criticise one hardware manufacturer as it will impede the 'relationship' between pub and console maker, leading to fewer lucrative deals in the future.
3.He has absolutely nothing to gain by announcing it. To be honest, it's rare that we even get this much of an honest (I assume) quote from a dev regarding platform parity.

Right now, before the consoles launch, I'd agree with you.

However, if after launch it becomes clear that PS4 is clearly stronger, then there is a risk if developers *don't* leverage it. Now you need to consider the competition it's other publishers and developers and being perceive as a weak dev.

And why not? You seriously think that Sony would not have a legal case if MS and EA colluded to gimp PS4 version?

What law would be broken in this case? Wouldn't said law also make exclusive content illegal (as that would be a "collusion" to "gimp" one version or the other)?

Not a lawyer or even remotely an expert in US laws, but definition of collusion:

Collusion occurs when two persons or representatives of an entity or organization make an agreement to deceive or mislead another. Such agreements are usually secretive, and involve fraud or gaining an unfair advantage over a third party, competitors, consumers or others with whom they are negotiating. The collusion, therefore, makes the bargaining process inherently unfair.

From uslegal.com.

My guess is that extra content is not illegal because we all know that MS is paying money for it. If MS or EA were to were outright say that MS paid to gimp PS4 version, then it would not be a collusion because it would not be a secret. However, can you think of the outrage from the gaming community?

So, if they do it, they have to do it secretively. If Sony gets the evidence of this secret deal, I would think that they would have a very good case on their hands.

Blast Processing and High Definition Graphics are gonna blow you mind.

Seriously though with all the claims to PS4 HUGE power advantage if there are any games that look better on X1 cities are going to burn.

Whoa, Genesis losing to the TurboGrafx, that's just wrong.

Let's not kid ourselves: there won't be a TurboGrafx or Neo Geo version. Or a Wii U version.

EA would have to be pretty ballsy If they think they can gimp a game on a console that has the same architecture, same CPU, more powerful GPU, superior RAM setup, and is easier to develop for then the Xbone. I don't think they could get away with that.

Unlike most other video game consoles of its time, the Neo Geo does not use tilemap background layers. Instead, it relies exclusively on drawing sprites to create the background. Sprites are vertical strips which are 16 pixels wide, and can be 16 to 512 pixels tall. By laying multiple sprites side by side, the system can simulate a background layer. The system can draw up to 380 sprites on the screen at a time, and up to 96 per scanline.

CLEARLY the Neo Geo.

and the responses here show why you don't come out and claim a certain version is better than another.

right now you have Xbone buyers hyped up because they think their version may be the best. gotta give hope to customers.

if he comes out and says "this version is the worst one", all of a sudden Xbone owners write this game off as trash and don't buy.

same thing they did with the Wii U

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
After reading AMD's comments it has to be PS4 unless there is some major moneyhatting going on.

The weird thing is that the people who would be seeing the quote in the first place are gamers who follow news, so they already know the PS4 is more powerful. The only way this could possibly ever be news is if the X1 version was better, because that would go against all available logic.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
PS4, by default its more powerful and that new hUMA information says it makes it more powerful then originally thought so....sounds legit.

Easily NeoGeo.

I'd heard legend about that thing since I was like 9 years old, but I don't think I've ever actually seen one.

“What we’re seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time *1 – especially one of them *2, but I’m not going to tell you which one," Nilsson told VideoGamer.com at Gamescom earlier today.

“And that makes me really happy. But in reality, I think we’re going to have both those consoles pretty much on parity *3 – maybe one sticking up a little bit. And I think that one will look as good as the PC. *4

Sounds like they're talking about Xbox One. Both consoles have surprised them but I think on paper we all knew PS4 shows more muscle, so any special surprise would be coming from Xbox One. The second part, him saying both consoles will be pretty much on parity reinforces the first statement, since it was originally thought the PS4 would be crushing, but it looks like that's not the case.... interesting. Of course the system that closer matches the PC is likely the PS4, but the difference between X1 and PS4 will not be as significant as most people originally thought.

You mistake developers for the common laymen, as if the former only discovered the Xbox one recently. The leaks which describe the beta kits were in circulation for close to a year now.
Nope. I'll go with the PS4 being more powerul than anticipated because of the RAM boost and the drivers-tools quality, both of which would have come as a genuine surprise.
